Like the hinges you made. Its a good way if your in a pinch or have the time to make them. I bought two bullet hinges rated at 240 lbs each. They cost me under five dollars but had to take the time to go to the shop and buy them. I could of made them like yours and saved me sometime. Good Job!
Thanks for info on hinge assembly! I tried to buy these items at my local steel supplier but could never find the right rod/tubing combo that fit together properly... love the videos too! Thanks Bro!
I like this idea of doing hinges! I'm doing this on my bbq pit as well. They turn out nice after you put them on! Great work! Nice vertical smoker btw.
Hey Alan, thanks for sharing bro' I was making a twist latch but needed it to be at least half inch round. Had a heck of a time finding the right pipe to stock fit, closest I could get was half inch cold rolled and sched 80 half inch pipe. still just a little loose for my tastes. Made my own washer & stop washer with the sched 80, took some time and I had to hold my mouth just right but it turned out real nice... just incase you ever needed to do half inch latches ... there ya go.
Some of those mower decks must be 18 or 20 ga. They rot out so fast! Good money jobs fixing them up, though. Very interesting smells come out when you get em warmed up.. I usually put a ring of 1 1/2 x 1/8 around the bottom edge, helps stiffen up the whole deck.
hey thanks for the video alan it helped me out. still need to find the springs to the latches guess onto ebay i tried to fnd them on here from you but dont see them for the 3 bucks you talked about
Only thing i hate about lowes and home depot is the insane price for the metal. I have a few steel supply companies here in indy if one doesnt have it the other will.
Hi Alan you make a great job you can tell me please where buy the spring hand for open the door I live in mexico but some time go to america. Thank you
What about the baffle for the chimney with the rod that comes down. I like your swivel style vs mine that swings a big arm. I was thinking rod on a corner attached to arm on plate, with and 8nchnlonger on the arm to the turning rod and fly stock 2 places lower. Any tips?
Hey Allen Nice Job... One question, with all the weight on the top hinge do you ever have a problem with sag? I'm thinking it may be beneficial turning that bottom hinge so it could carry more weight..
allen, what are the physical deminsions of your vertical smoker? im waiting for my plasma to get here and go pick up the steel, id like to build myself one but not sure what a good size is
Ive watched so many of your videos. I'm going to have to go to confession. I feel like I'm stealing chickens out of you backyard at night. Hope that made you laugh. We Minnesota Jack pine savages are mostly honest folks. Best regards.
Allen I weld my hinges with the rod down into the tube so all the door weight lays on the 2 hinges.

Thanks Allen....you answered my question about the time I'm making a smoker. Love the videos.
As always a pleasure to watch you work.
Great job, you should get someone to do a CAD file and sell cad file. It's a way to bring in funds. And a way for people to support you.

Nice vid mate. Have you seen those little de-burr tools they sell? Great for doing inside pipe/tube and they fit in your pocket. Bit easier than file.
Cody Bond yea I have but it's been a while, I forgot all about those...glad you reminded me
theyre called rattle burrs in the machining environment. atleast thats what ive always heard them called
Great job buddy!

Thanks very helpful!!!!
great tips, thanks
If you welded that bottom hinges in the same direction as the top one then the weight would be on both of the hinges instead of only the top one
Nice smoker! Gotta build me one. Peace!
You are the man thanks
I put my round stock in the drill press and use a bastard file to turn it down for hinges.
allen, what are the physical deminsions of your vertical smoker? im waiting for my plasma to get here and go pick up the steel, id like to build myself one but not sure what a good size is
Hey man how do you do the burners for BBQ pig cooker? I'll tank you if you can help me on it thank s
allen you are a bad man
why dontn you set the bottom hinge the same way as the top? as you put it only the top will hold the load?
Hey Allen, how long would it take if I were to pay you to make a smoker for me? I’m looking for a reverse flow offset trailer on a trailer.
