Oh man.. I've been drooling over this one, the simplicity of it, since it launched. I sooooo wish it had a double door (fabric on/off and mesh on/off), or that it was similar to the Helsport Trolltind Superlight 2, which has the same idea, but it's a double-walled tent. A mix between the two could be so great. Looking forward to your impressions and experiences with this one, can't wait!
haha, you're like me, Yes I agree , camping catnip this one, will give it a whirl tomorrow night ( and I'll have it up for sale next week ) :-) Hope not !
Not sure about that one mate, however I hope it works great. At least they have guylines off the side panels to take a lot of the strain in windy weather. Always wondere if you could by adhesive versions of those palstic bits so you could add your own to any tent. Atb
Looking forward to some snow , it's been out in driving rain for a few hours and it's weeping as I thought from seam points , Silnet in action tomorrow before the weekend !
Many thanks for the video, I really loved it. Great to know that MSR is providing pretty less for the customers as I've seen on this video the ground sheet is not included, not enough tent stakes, not enough guy lines and very poor ventilation. I reckon that you're going to have problem with condensation. Then again, I could be wrong so I look forward to the next video when you use it in the great outdoors. But still for the price of it I hope that MSR could have provided extra States an extra guy lines and extra material for mesh on the doorway in case you needed extra ventilation during warm days or to prevent bugs and mosquitoes from going in. Cheers again for the video. Greetings from Hong Kong. / Joel
Thanks for the comments Joel, it really is a paired down tool for the Alpinist, I just like using them more in Scottish conditions where it's not too wet ..watch this space :-) All the best from Scotland. A
“Yep, done it again” 😂........Tents Anonymous Fella, it’s your only hope. Another superb detailed review - gotta be the best tent reviews on the Tube. Always wonder if these alpine single skin mountain tents are more suited to colder drier snow conditions than for the heinous wet stuff 🌧🌧🌧but it looks like it’ll take a real ‘shoeing’ wind wise for sure.
Another great tent review. Looks a hardy wee tent. Very snug but Hardy.. Lol.. Zero room for 2 + gear by the looks of it. Enjoy yer weekend camp, I'm off out to Schiehallion myself. ATB 👍
@@AndrewParkOutdoors 10cm of snow predicted for tonight but mild & sunshine over the weekend Andrew. Looks to be a nice cold one this weekend. Not sure I'll hill camp, might just head up early and wildcamp somewhere around Loch Rannoch or Dunalastair Reservoir. Where you off to?
Hi Sean, I returned it after my initial review as I found the foot area too low and my sleeping bag would get wet. I think if you're prepared to put s shell jacket over it you may be ok but I felt BD hadn't quite got the dimensions right yet. A
No I don't have it anymore, it's very wind stable , narrow for two but fine for one, mine was the pre roof vented one ( I think they added them as a result of my feedback partly too ). The fabric is not great at breathing but waterproof. Love the ease of pitching and big diameter carbon poles.
For sure in the summer ( if you dont add a midge door ) . Keeping it for windy and dryish coldish stuff where I'm up and doon the hill like the SAS ! A
Haha, now that's an expensive beast ! I had one a few years ago , bought it 2nd hand off a guy in Edinburgh, he loved his fry ups and I could never get the smell of bacon out it ! A
Great review but MSR are seriously missing the trick with not seam sealing certain tents, forget all the blurb on there website you shouldn't have to do anything other than put it up and be dry, and guylines C'mon MSR this isn'y a cheap piece of kit!!!!
Not sure bout this tent! Definitely not for me but I really hope it works for you! Looks well made and very strong though! Looks like a condensation trap and you'll have to have your sleeping bag in the middle away from walls lol! Atb
It's amazing how many persons seem to seek out MSR videos just to make nasty comments and give unsolicited purchasing advice. Now, the mean part of me thinks SOME of these persons (present company excepted of course) can't afford MSR tents and are jealous and angry. I think that's a very reasonable theory. I certainly don't waste my time clicking on videos of products I consider inferior just to make snotty comments.
I think you've raised some good points about brand snobbery and jealousy there. I prefer to take the product at face value and see how it performs in reality. Happy camping. A
Hi Andrew and all! Yet another quality-content video! Any experience anyone from the Ferrino Maverick 2 single wall? Got to love the simplicity and quick deployment of those single wall bivy-tent hybrids, but condensation is always a concern in sub-alpine humid sites in Greece (as in Scotland i presume..). Still laughing with the "done it again, sold a tent, bought a tent" quote from your Litetrek video btw.. Cheers!
Hi George, yep, certified tentaholic :-) Ferrino tents seems to be very rarely seen here, at least in retailers. Most folk seem to buy direct on the web and as such they are rare on the ground. Just taken a look at that one and it seems to heavy to be viable for me, at 2.2kg plus you'd be better taking a 2 skin tent like a Soulo or Unna ? Atb A
@@AndrewParkOutdoors All Hilleberg tents are ridiculously overpriced in Greece, and in the high end of the price spectrum on line, whereas the Maverick is certainly within one's budget. Also, it has a part-mesh door (completely close-able for ultimate heat retention), and paired with the ventilation tube-style sleeves (no mesh there though) afford a wee bit more air circulation. It certainly isn't ultralight (my Rab Silwing tarp + Salewa PTX bivy fill the bill there), but manageable for overnight adventures. My other alternative is the Salewa Litetrek Pro 2; in the same weight league, a tad more expensive. Can be pitched fly-only for a weatherproof tarp scenario. Torn...
Deffo not worth the money for the tent and I guess it will be a magnet for the condensation inside your tent personally I would definitely recommend the Hileberg Alak 2 A little more money but well worth every penny 😉👍
Most confusing tent Iv seen in a long time. Who is this supposed to serve, are there that many areas without bugs, snow or downpoors that it needed it's own tent? I can't see myself ever choosing this over the S10/20 I like the height of the tent, but if people over six foot can't have a proper lay, what's the point?
Yep i agree S10/S20 are great all rounders. I guess this is your bombshelter for snow and quick assaults ..I couldn't resist the tech to be honest ..we will see !
It’s a tent specifically for fast and light alpine ascents. On those climbs low weight and compact gear is essential. Tents like this while cramped in anyones opinion are small enough that it can be pitched on small ledges and other cramped positions where a more comfortably sized tent would be too large. They’re basically a glorified bivi bag and a wind shelter rolled into one light (and expensive) tent.

great stuff! thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching 😁
It has been a couple years. How do you like it?
The MSR Access might be a better choice for most.
For fast and light one nighters when the weather sh*t hits the fan it's great. A
Thanks for the review Andrew/ Any thoughts on the new BD distance tent?

Do you recon it will be a sweat box? I have a hard time keeping dri in the uk in a double skin tent wouldnt touch a single skin with a barge pole

I do like Hilly's but just don't like carrying more than 1.5kgs solo, hence I've learned towards assault tents for quick overnights. ATB A
As soon as you open the door in any wet or snow conditions it's coming straight inside.
Yeh you have to be careful opening the door for sure tho on that model it's quite steep and not as bad as lower bibler style models. A
