  • After having speed reduction issues I pulled the jet pump apart to find out the impeller wear ring blew apart. Never use a plastic sleeved wear ring!!

I've bought one with a plastic sleeve. IT worked great. Bumped the ski up to 48mph

They dont last as long. Any time you change a wear ring you will notice a difference.

@@chikkicarolina15 even the metal ring doesn’t last long, all depends on how nasty the water/sand is that wears out the ring/impeller. The good thing about the plastic ring is easier to swap, cheaper and you won’t have to worry about the swollen ring due to corrosion. The swollen ring is a pia and inevitable if you own the ski long enough.

Was that the problem? Do you have a part number for the wear ring piece? I think this is my exact problem. Where do i buy this part? Thank you for your wonderful video..

The wear ring is the same for any 155m pump 2008-2013 yamaha fx sho ho vx fzr fzs. Do not get a wear ring with the plastic sleave in it. Yamaha Part number is 66v-51312-01-94.

looking for some advice on a 2006 fx ho that has 154 hours. Today I took it out and it was running great then I slowed to a stop from 40+ mph and sat still for a moment. When I started again all momentum was basically lost and even though the engine revs to a high level the most speed could get was 4 to 6 mph to limp back to dock. Opened up the bottom cover as mentioned in other places expecting weeds or junk around the shaft but its clean and I can see it turning. Not sure what to look for next. Any ideas? Thanks!

Is it in limp mode? The prop may have spun forward off the pump shaft or the drive shaft spun out of coupler. Is it reving proper rpms?

@@chikkicarolina15 The engine revs properly and seems strong like normal and no lights are on so I don't "think" its a limp mode issue. Have not yet removed the impeller housing but I am starting to think the impeller and housing may need to be replaced. This is my first ski and I sort of remember from last year that it seemed like it was not as fast for the same rpm's toward the year end as it was at years start. Since I bought the thing last year I have read in different places that impellers wearing are just normal stuff and this kind of sounds like it may be just that. Even though it only has 154 hours it is a 2006 model which is fairly old. I appreciate your input!

I do not remember price but do remember it was advertised as replaceable nylon ring. Its garbage.
