My pleasure James, hopefully the video helps. Take it slow, don't force those bolts getting them out if they have been in there since assembly, especially the little bolt on the left. Nice and easy.
Yes Rom, after 10 years of ownership, I finally changed my engine anode. That video is in progress, spoiler alert.. it was a challenge to replace, not for the faint of heart..lol.
Your original video replacing the impellor housing is what convinced me to get a jet boat. At the time I was dealing with a stern drive and the jet pump looked SO much simpler. Thanks again for the great vids!

Capt. Leon, great video! Haven’t had to do this yet but I’m sure it’s coming. By the way, Harbor Freight has cheap brass punches to use instead of a small screwdriver. 😉
I also did change mine exactly 2 years ago, using an OEM one as well. Results = engine doesn't turn over because the jet pump is blocked. I just ordered a stainless steel one after reading quite a few bad feedbacks about plastic replacements.
@@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore I mean seized. The impeller is rust-welded to the wear ring... Common issue. So the engine won't turn over. It started by harder noisy starts, and it would free up. Then I had some maintenance to do and didn't crank it in maybe 3 months, and here we are ;)

Hello Capt. Leon, I replaced the wearing with the solas and OEM impeller. You mentioned at the end that it took a little while for some noises to clear up. How long did that take? I just did that job earlier today and I turned it on and it's definitely not smooth I torqued everything down so I can't imagine what it could be but it definitely sounds like some rub is taking place somewhere. Any thoughts? It's just this heartening after doing all this work not what I thought it would sound like. Thanks again.

oem is the best BUT there is a cheaper alterative and in certain condition's may be advisable . the banging on the water hose comes from metal on metal with the stainless setup something will have to give eventually . My suggestion is the plastic insert (wear ring ) its easy to install and will only wear the ring not the expensive impeller . also IF anything aka rocks .shells.ect goes in it your chances of a motor lock up and serious damage are a lot less .. hope my suggestion helps someone on a budget.
All good points, I hear ya. But the banging on the garden hose was mostly caused from the swell points on the OEM due to corrosion between the aluminum and stainless layers. Now that its all stainless its quiet, but you're right, no room for error.
I doubt it, they would probably say that similar to brakes and tires on our cars, it's normal wear and tear. But I'm honestly not sure. Great question!
Thanks Coda, the swelling seems to get worse when sitting dry for a few days in-between outings. Returning from a day out, it seemed less severe. How are you determining that antifreeze can play a factor?
Certain types of antifreeze will attack certain Metals in a Tri Val a n c e state a great example if you put regular green antifreeze in a Toyota it will start to disintegrate the aluminum copper and other metal you have to use the pink toyota antifreeze , it is a chemical reaction it does take a little while for this to happen but any contact I would say just to make sure you using correct antifreeze from the Yamaha boat maker I also notice you said you use in saltwater even after you flush engine salt also has a chemical and electrical reaction so if you spray down jet drive assembly inside and out with a corrosion inhibitor I think they call it yamashield
Cavitation is due to vapor bubbles when water is being expelled past an impeller or propeller at high speed, this does not take place while reving the engine on the hose. There can be wear from play in the shaft while the impeller is spinning out of the water, but the swelling of the housing in spots due to dissimilar metals is a known issue.
So thorough. I love how you explain exactly what’s going on!!
