I've been using track saws for the last few years and love having them in the shop. After having used Festool, Milwaukee, WEN, KREG, Ridgid, and Ryobi saws, I thought it was time I tried the DeWALT.

An interesting feature of the 54V (as the 60V is called in Europe) is that after I got this saw, I started using the 54V battery on my Dewalt Torque Wrench, which made it a lot more powerful. So you can plug a 54V battery in an 18V tool, but not the other way around.
Bought one of these years ago, one of the best tool purchases I've made. Use it all the time for cutting OSB/plywood. If you're already invested in the DeWalt battery ecosystem it's a great buy. Most of the other track saws didn't exist when I bought mine so it was between the DeWalt and the Festool, which was much more expensive at the time.
I'm just getting into woodworking, just picked up the Skil table saw and DeWalt router tonight, so off to a decent start haha. I love videos focused on beginner tips and knowledge, just starting out, I don't even know what kind of screws I should use on projects, I just have some T25 deck screws that I have from random projects, but informational videos for newbies like myself are much appreciated. Love the content my man.

Most people probably do not care if tracks are standard. I bought a DeWalt to have a DeWalt and will use DeWalt tracks with my DeWalt track saw. Only influencers are going to have multiple different track saws. Most of us have one.
Good review ! I have the Festool and the Dewalt . I use the Dewalt for field work . The cut isn't quite as fine as the Festool with the anti chip feature. The Dewalt is very powerful and i enjoy the fact that you can cut on both sides of the track ....spinning the long track to cut the other direction is a pain ! I feel the other tracks are a bit better quality in some aspects. I feel that Dewalt tools are a bit lighter weight , which is beneficial as i get older !
Only if the tool companies would come together and agree on one standard, instead they don't want to. Wouldn't mind forking out a thousand dollars just to get a DeWalt cordless circular saw and several feet of track saw guides. I might be working on my roof at the edge, gables ends.

Great review, I loved using one of these after using one I borrowed from work I plan to buy one of these in the near future. You did seem to miss that the tracksaw is a 60V not a flexvolt advantage tool so the saw is running at 60V not 20V that is why your 20V battery it locked out.
Matt, thank you for the great review of the DeWalt track saw. I happen to be a DeWalt fan boy as you would say. I'm just starting to get back into woodworking after a 14yr hiatus. I see you compare the saw from DeWalt with Milwaukee and festool track size. What I also see that the DeWalt tracksaw is not priced anywhere close to the ballpark of what the Milwaukee or the Fez tool track saw cost. Dewalts 612 at the cheapest and Milwaukee and fist tool are the $900 range for the same thing that you get with the DeWalt. I did see in the DeWalt price point that rigid track saw is in the same ballpark and makitas tracks hot is in the same ballpark as price. Out of the three track saws that I mentioned there last the DeWalt, that rigid, or the Makita track saw which would you recommend after doing a review on all those three track saws? I really do like the fast tool tools I just can't justify the difference in price compared to DeWalt to buy fist tool at this point. I'm glad to see you start another channel and be more in depth with what you think about the products congratulations hopefully it'll take off just as good as though 7:31 woodworking channel. A lot of people say you can run it on a festool track. I bought the Kreg early in my journey, my journey is still isn’t that old anyway, but, when I bought it, it seemed like a lot of money to me because I hadn’t spent all that much at that point. As I progressed, I don’t get shocked by prices of things anymore. I want to upgrade it but it has done everything I needed it to do. My money can be spent much wiser in other areas. I’ll treat myself one day to a new, more premium saw someday. Most likely I’ll go festool but man that Bosch sure was looking sweet to me
I would not be too concerned about the track compatibility if God was to bless me with the ability to purchase one track saw let alone multiples. Unfortunately I must save up for dust collection system first as it is starting to affect my health, live and learn, which means a track saw is not in the budget for the foreseeable future, but one day I will be lucky enough to get one and would likely go with Dewalt as I have mostly Dewalt and Rigid tools. Great video and great reviews. Really great channel, you and your wife are extremely kind people as I watch you all the time and saw your video where you bought stuff for people at Woodcraft store.

I'm really surprised he has not reviewed the Profactor Bosch track saw. I just bought it and it's pretty awesome. Already had a lot of bosch amp+share batteries, decided to stick with it.

That does look really clean when the battery is in there. I really like how smooth that track is, and since I’ve already got dewalt batteries, I can’t imagine getting the Milwaukee. But, that 5 year warranty sounds a whole lot better

Thank you for sharing. Since you're asking, I would like to see you test the power in particular. I'm on the DeWALT 20v/60v Flexvolt platform, but I bought the Milwaukee track saw because I didn't like the things you mentioned (after all, either this saw or the Festool TS 75 are the oldest track saws still in production, which is why they lack some of the modern refinements). However, cutting through hardwoods might be a significant advantage to the DeWALT being that it's running off of 60 volts and not 18v/20v or even 36v.

I wish DeWalt would make a new version that locked the saw to the track during beveled cuts.
DeWalt has three battery lines, their 12 volt Max, the 20 volt XR and the 20/60 volt Flexvolt. The 20 volt XR batteries can be used in the 20 volt Atomic tools, 20 volt XR tools and the 20 volt Flexvolt Advantage tools. The 20/60 volt Flexvolt batteries can be used in the 20 volt Atomic tools, 20 volt XR tools, 20 volt Flexvolt Advantage tools and the 60 volt Flexvolt tools. If you want to see the differences in power between the XR, Flexvolt Advantage, and Flexvolt tools, check out the Torque Test Channel. They have a couple videos where they dyno test all three circular saws showing the power output differences.
i guess there is no automatic dust colllection when turning on the saw compared to the corded version which you can plug into a vacum to collect the dust automatic.
I have owned and used the DeWalt track saw for years, and it has been great overall. One thing I do regret, though, is the tracks are not amenable to parallel guides based on their design. At least, there are none that will work with the Dewalt tracks that I am aware of. TSO does make an attachment that ensures the track is square to the edge of whatever you are cutting, which is nice, but as far as parallel guides that attach to the track distally and proximally, there is no way to do it. Something to keep in mind if anyone is considering getting a track saw and using a parallel guide system.
i did some research and have same issues. i have 2 solution. Get 2 TSO square instead of 1 and you can attach parallel guide on those 2 TSO square or use Festool track that will fit on Dewalt.
You can use the Festool track with this saw. I use it all the time with no issues. That opens up to accessories.

My saw has a broken piece of metal where you adjust height. Makes plunging very difficult. I’m not sure but I believe it came broken. I noticed after several cuts, I had problems from the start getting the saw to plunge. Did anyone else have this defect in there saw?
Somebody probably already filled you in about the batteries on the DeWalt but if not here goes. The reason you can't put the 20 volt batteries on a 60 volt tools is because you can't turn a 20 volt battery into a 60 volt battery it won't even run the saw. However DeWalt 60 volt flex volt batteries specifically designed to function as a 60 volt output source when installed on a 60 volt tool but when you install it on a 20 volt tool it changes the output configuration and it becomes a 20 volt battery but the amp hour becomes more because you're not draining at 60 volts you're draining at 20. So on a 60 volt tool a 6 amp hour 60 volt battery is a 6 amp hour battery but on a 20 volt tool the 6 amp hour battery becomes an 18 amp hour battery if I'm not not mistaken making that a big but 20v battery when being used on a 20v tool
Actually Flexvolt battery amp hours are listed at 20v. Hence a 9ah battery is only 3ah @ 60 volts. The flexvolt batteries uses internal switches to either parallel all the cells to get 20V or it separates the cells into 3 20 volt groups in series with each other.

@@almorris171 Okay to add a more scientific explanation to my earlier comment on the compatibility of the flexvolt battery line, I believe the way it works is in your standard 20-volt battery pack there are a set of cells when put together equal 20 volts in a flex volt battery pack there would be three sets of cells each set equaling 20 volts the wiring inside the pack and I imagine the connections on the tool when connected to a 20-volt tool all three of those sets of cells equaling 20 volts each run in series but when placed in a 60 volt tool those three sets of cells each equaling 20 volts run parallel which would add up to 60 volts. I am not an expert I just believe that that's probably the science behind it it would be like having 3 20 volt battery packs all crammed into one pack and I imagine because the tool is only drawing 20 volts maybe those things only drain one set of batteries at a time which is why you get more amp hours because you technically have three battery packs built into one pack on a 20 volt tool. That what is the second part of my post that you must have missed as you can see I know exactly how they work

Can you do a video on the latest ridgid tools and batteries? I have an older ridgid cordless set of tools I love, but I don't know if I can use the new batteries on the old tools , and can I charge the new batteries on the old chargers? I'm short on cash as of late, plus I'm " thrifty" ...ok I'm cheap anyway lol
Thanks for the suggestion! I have several new ones in the shop recently. I can tell you the old batteries work on the new chargers and vice versa. And the new batteries work on older tools no problem.

The cut itself did not look very clean. You could see lots of small cut lines. Do you think this was because you had too much play on the saw so it was moving on the track a bit? Or does it always leave a slightly rough cut?
Did the Dewalt's track saw link up with the Festool dust extraction unit.?
yep, the hose goes right into the port. It doesn't "lock" in like it doesn't on Fesotol tools, but has a good friction fit.
Can you get a 12ft track for this unit?

The variable speed control is probably for metal cutting blades. I don't think you're supposed to spin them as fast.

Maybe they went to 60V for more power (ohm's law - raising voltage drops amperage, meaning they don't have to worry about tripping the over current protection inside the battery pack) or at least reduce the chance of stalling it out, which is horrible for brushless motors? That's why the 20V batteries don't fit - the 60V batteries are backwards compatible with the 20V tools (they have additional contacts in the packs that line up with either voltage tools) - It is still odd since DeWalt does make 20V cordless circular saws though.
I will say that my DeWalt cordless does cut pretty nicely, but you can definitely stall it if you lean on it too hard, especially making a plunge cut in hardwood. Granted it's an 18V saw with the 20V adapter, but if you stall it the battery and the adapter both get hot and quickly. From what I understand, the 20V saws aren't much better in that regard either (haven't used one personally but I spoke with a few people who have them)
I have their 60v circular saw, and it works great so far. My Dad and I used it while replacing his old wood fence with a new one, and it cut through pressure treated 2x4s and 4x4s like butter. My Dad said he wanted to keep it, and he's on the Ridgid system.
@@timlawrence3906 Mine does fine for general use, dimensional lumber and such, but it eats batteries on rip cuts in sheet goods, and it does struggle with hardwood in specific instances as mentioned.
That's good to know though, my saw is almost old enough to drink...
I haven't had the opportunity to try the circular saw in a sheet of plywood yet. I have few 5/8 scraps, but they and everything else is in a Pack Rat container while in the process of building a new shop/man cave.

I been seeing videos claiming that using the flexvolt batteries on the 20V tools will actually kill them.
There is no reason for a 20v tool to damage a flexvolt battery. There is nothing unique or high tech about flexvolt batteries. It's done with internal switches to configure the cells in a parallel or series configuration.

It's not a 20 volt toolit's the battery it can switch from 20 volt or 60 volt it's not the tool that can go from 20 or 60 volt it's just the battery

I like the reviews that you do, but on the many reviews you do comparing tracksaws you leave out some of the better ones, like makita, mafell, etc. I think if you are doing a review of a tool and you compare it to other tools and talk about recommendations, you should be more comprehensive and include more brands/models. If you do a review and don’t compare, then it doesn’t matter.
I'd like to do the Makita and Bosch. Mafell would be awesome but they are so very expensive compared to even Festool. Hard for me to justify buying one since I buy almost all of the tools I review.

Yes, you can run 60v batteries in your 20v tools; you cannot run 20v batteries in your 60v tools.
cordless track saws and other cordless equipment that is going to be used in a shop situation is not something i would even remotely consider buying .the added weight and cost of buying batteries seems pointless when electricity is only feet away . It's kind of like turning on the tap to get a glass of water and putting the water into a pitcher first and then pouring the water into the glass.
Really don't like the way this guy does he does his reviews. Seems very opinionated about the one brand. He should really review and understand how each warranty works, especially the Milwaukee warranty.
