WE ONCE PURCHASED A FLY TRAP BEFORE. ONCE IT WAS FILLED WE THREW AT THE WINDSHIELD OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS CAR. FLYS MAGOTS AND STENCH EVERY WHERE. OF COURSE THIS WAS BEFORE CAMERAS AND CELLULARS

I made some of these years ago, they work really well, when full dump them at the local tip if you don't want to clean it out.

If you don’t have a drill. Just twist a knife back and fourth with the cap still on the bottle til you finally break through. Doesn’t take much time.

Use a few drops of dishwasher soap since it breaks the surface tension making the dead ones sink so that new ones can reach the liquid.
I just put a couple of rocks in the base and set it on the deck.....works wonders with just apple cider vinegar.

This is great if you live on a farm and keep livestock.
You can do this so much simpler by just cutting a few crosses in the shoulder of the bottle then pushing folds inwards.
Then just mix up a couple of eggs and water and funnel in.
Surely as soon as it rains these will just overflow all that mess out?
Thanks - good reminder, as I know these work really well. Like your 'paperclip' method of making a hanger. I generally just slice some X's in the top side of the bottle and they crawl in there. The cap method may work too, we'll see! I'll make two and measure - science! ;->

That's literally how any and all fly traps work that use an attractant (so all basically except for sprays amd props ypu have to use yourself). Store bought, made at home... it's all the same. It makes them steer towards you. But when you have 50 flies coming through daily into your house they instead don't come at all after using this sort of trap, because they're attracted to your trap. Just put it somewhere far away in your backyard.

You can find blood in hospitals.
Use pigs blood in the supermarket or local butcher meat shop
Do only cons with that trap it's the rain came come in and you need to remove it when it's too full

You can use sugar , wheat flour and yeast in water for a somewhat less vile smelling bait.

Pretty effective but pretty friggin gross as well. I can imagine when it’s time to empty that bottle and clean it up. Or do you just bury that underground? That wouldn’t be good though since the plastic will not degrade.
