It is spring here, and I've been using these traps for 5 weeks now. I have only two installed in my garden, one on either end, but my garden is not very large and they seem to be coping ok. Since I installed them, right at the start of spring, I have had next to no mosquitos in the house. Normally by this time of the year the mosquitos would be a real problem, affecting my sleep and biting frequently. This year so far, simply nothing. I have found that for best effectivity I have to replace the liquid and the blue cheese every two weeks - From just less than 3 weeks I start to see mosquitos again, so two weeks is the charm. I am so pleased that I have finally found a solution for this problem. It is extremely annoying and affects my perceived quality of life. I will be using this uninterrupted every summer from now on.
I am grtaeful for your comments - but they had the effect of prompting me to ask: I had assumed when I watched the video that setting up traps like this in the yard is really intended for people to like to eat out in their patio - whereas I am more concerned about first getting rid of mosquitoes from within the house. However, it seems to be implied from the above comments that eradicating them from the yard will protect the house also. Did I understand this correctly, and to what extent is this true and direct?
@@smyossef what I have found over a longer period of use is that in the early part of the season the traps were very effective in virtually eliminating mosquitoes from the house. There's a product called Dunks that is used to eliminate mosquitoes in large tanks and ponds it kills larva and is non-toxic for animals. I use half a Dunk in a 5 gallon bucket about 1/2 full moving 2 buckets around the garden as needed , I haven't seen a mosquito all summer when using this method. The concern I have with traps is, will it attract insects from acres away, that ordinarily would not be around your house. Years ago I bought fly traps from Home Depot. The traps were so effective that in a matter of days there were thousands of dead flies in the trap. Research indicates that neither UV nor blue light attracts mosquitos. But they do attract many other types of insects. The small quantity of yeast he used won't generate enough CO2 to attract mosquitos. You would need a lot more yeast, and a source of food for the yeast, in a much bigger container to do that. Please let me know what your mosquito repellent is also as I am a magnet for them...I definitely need a working repellent and I don't like using Deet or that strong chemical stuff all over me.
I have done a lot of research on why I attract mosquitoes. I definitely quit wearing dark clothes outside. Apparently if you eat a lot of soured milk products like sour cream, yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese etc, your skin puts off a smell that the mosquitoes flock after. I am AB blood type and those are beneficial foods. Yep, they LOVE me. How about eating sour milk foods and wait a day and put a black T shirt on that is oversized, get extremely hot and sweat like CRAZY then cut that shirt up and use THAT as bait? I bet they will LOVE my black shirts. Normally I wear very light colored shirts to keep the heat down and avoid attracting mosquitoes. I will take my rattiest dark cotton shirt and wear it tomorrow and see how that works for my traps. Thank you!
Mosquitos go for people with a lot of sugar in blood (among other things) they were kamikazing on me when I had reached prediabetic state and now that I got it mostly under control they attack me 1/10 as often. Personally i'm waiting for the mini laser turrets with AI mosquito reckonition features xD

I don't seem to get bit and i'm outside all the time, but friends visiting sometimes get bit and of course my wife get bit too so for sure going to try this trap.
Dumb question: You want a sweet bubbly substance, so why not use Sprite or 7-Up? Or is the yeast for a different purpose than bubbles? Just looking for a possible shortcut.
Soda goes flat in a few hours, which means it runs out of CO2. Yeast is a living organism that eats sugar and emits CO2. The yeast will stay alive for weeks, happily turning the sugar into a continual source of CO2 for the trap.

GREAT Job! √√ Keep it up! √√
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you!
They also love ginger, as a redhead the dam things go round people to get to me😮
How far apart should they be from one another?
"be careful with the knife" but then proceed to drill directly at your hand.
Some people use dish detergent.
where to get those little bags?
Check the description I think they’re linked.
14:10 for those of us who are big into using natural safe ingredients, I think it’s important to note that those mosquito dunks and bits are a natural and safe bacteria that kills mosquito larvae but are safe for humans and animals.
How about for bees?
@@JillofAllTrades2 yes it is safe for bees as well as all other beneficial insects.
So these don’t trap the mosquitoes, but just kills the eggs they lay?
You can use neem oil as that is the active ingredient in the dunks
I think it's Bacillus thuriengensis. I don't know how the endospores actually kill the larvae though
@@jarrodedwards5819 Hi ,
Neem oil will brake the breading cycle of the mozzie and the bacillus thuriengenis is a bacteria that affects of stomach of caterpillars from what I remember
I'm going to try this tomorrow. Debby came through and left us about 5" of rain.
Has it worked? We got massive flooding from Debby and the mosquitoes are out of control!
Ya those electric zapper traps kill millions of beneficial insect and do nothing about the pest. I'm going to try this one out. Seem like a logical trap for mosquito. Thanks for the video.
The yeast converts sugar to CO2 which attracts the mosquitoes.
You are correct ... While it still fizzes
Best video I’ve seen on this subject.
Thanks so much…..cheers
Queen Q, Didn’t your Mama teach you if you cannot say anything nice, please do not say anything at all!! I really appreciate what he shares, seems like a wonderful guy!💜
I’m just an old lump of coal….maybe someday I’ll be a diamond. 😂
I recommend putting this info in a 2 minute video. You will have more subscribers. I played it at twice the speed and even then kept scrolling forward. Then we don't even know what happens to the mosquitoes, do they drown?
I didn't see how you attached the mesh bag
