You can use Blended up Beets to attract flies, fruit flies, gnats and mosquitoes, they are all attracted to the Beet Juice for different reasons. Mosquitoes can smell the Geosmin that is in the Beet Juice from up to a mile away. Geosmin signals the presence of rain water which is also valuable information to various flies, Beets are a catch-all.
Great video. Fwiw, I don't think the vinegar "kills" beyond drowning them. Adding a drop of dish soap to it makes the vinegar drown them faster (so they can't use surface tension to land).
That gave me an idea to use my clear empty hummus container. I put vinegar, lemon extract and syrup inside and outside the lid with a hole big enough for the house fly to fit through it. Give it patience like waiting for birds to find the new feed stalk. I caught a lot in it.
I just mad 3 juice bottle, to catch fly's and wasp. For wasp I put a package of dry yeast and sugar With what you used. They work really good 👍💓 Thank you for your recipe. 👍😀💓
Over the years i have made some crazy versions of this lol.but might need to do it again.just seen some cantaloupe i planted is swarmed by flies.this may not be an immediate problem, but i can see how this would make it easier for plants to get diseases, and im sure i dont want the cantaloupe chewed on later.just debating on the bait of choice for this
Excellent idea and at no cost, I tried so many costly stuff no great results, thank you for this, I will definitely do this starting this afternoon, Do you have any ideas for cockroaches , Greatly appreciated, Robin Pillay, from Durban, Phoenix, South Africa. 01 July, 2024
My boyfriend saw a video somewhere so we used cheap syrup and a banana in a plastic container with holes poked in lid. The trap is working great. But my question is how do you dispose of it? Not all of the flies are 100% dead.
@@shippermd the shape of the bottles makes it so flies walk (rather than fly) into the receptacle. They can get out, it's just so much easier for them to get in. It's a similar principle to crab traps.
@@shippermd they can get out but they have to be smart enough to do the 180 degree turn crawling down, around and then up the spout. Some will likely get out by accident but the majority are killed by the ACV.
Only a day but we had a REALLY bad fly problem when I made this video. I wouldn’t get those same results now since there are very few flies out there anymore.
thank you for the video. I would like to point out that that is not a banana spider. It is an orb weaver also known as a garden spider. A banana spider is another name for the Brazilian wandering spider and is extremely venomous and deadly. garden spiders are harmless although they look scary
🤷 Either my fly problem isn't as bad as I think or the flies are way too smart in my yard. I've tried red wine vinegar & rotten strawberries, water/ dish soap & fish scraps, even fly paper surrounding a bowl filled with honey water. The flies just won't fall for any of it! 🤦
I like the concept and knew about the trap but what I am wondering before I make my own is... dose it Stink? I wanna get rid of my flies that sneak into my house but I dont want something that also attracts them 😅
That's my question, too. They keep getting in my house and I can't figure out how. Until I find and close-off their entry-point, I need fly traps in my home, so something stinky won't be great, and unfortunately, honey doesn't seem to attract flies the way the proverb suggests 🤷♀️
Hi BH, one question, if you let fruit rot you will then have fruit flies, so what do you do for that or will that attract them also. Is their a way to let fruit rot without attracting fruit flies or what happens if one doesn't have any rotting fruit? Great idea though, very easy to do.
For regular home flies I used strawberry syrup diluted with some water. For the small fruit flies i used vinegar plus sugar and little water. For the big outdoors flies I found that yeast and water mixture worked best I'm still trying new baits at this time hhhh.@@BroussardHomestead
It’s not working. It’s 24 hrs. I haven’t caught any flies. My husband is laughing. He is sucking them up with the wet vac. - maybe my apple wasn’t rotten enough
I was watching my vegetable garden to see what insects pollinate their flowers, and I didn't see bees. I saw ants and flies. Some people kill ants and flies. 😂 When asked to describe insect species that can pollinate flowers, most people think of bees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. However, flies are critical pollinators in both natural and agricultural systems. A recent analysis of crop species found that flies visited 72% of the 105 crops studied (bees visited 93%). Aug 26, 2021 So, before you decimate all the ants and flies in your garden, think of your vegetable flowers that are waiting to be pollinated.
You made this so easy to understand thank you

Fresh produce beets or canned? I think I want to try this!! Thank you in advance!!
Not sure I wanna try it if could attract mosquitoes from a mile away 🤣
Thanks for the info
Thanks!❤

Wow, simple and effective.
Thank You!
Some of the best ideas are either free or nearly free. This one is verifiably amazing. Thanks for sharing!!
Fly predators ordered online work great around our property. They made a huge difference.
Thanks for the video!
Nice! Going to try this. We have a horrible fly issue.
I think it has to do with all the rain
How did it work out?
Coat everything on your porch with a diluted Neem Oil Solution, it will keep the majority of insects away.
I like that fly trap

Oh cool! Thanks for that
It's kind of foolish and stupid to kill the wasp. Wasp pollinate, kill and eat Flies.
We need to make some these, thank you for the idea!!! We bought the same bag kind from the store also, but need SO many more!
Afternoon. Oh man I use lots of those traps 👍👍👍
AWESOME!!! Gonna do it! Thanks and God bless.
I'm not gonna keep rotting fruits in my apartment, ok guy.
This is awesome. Thanks. ❤❤❤
Lovely shout out to the spider helping you out !! That’s cool !!!
Excellent.
I'm gonna try it. Thanks

You don't need to cut the top of the bottle off. Simply cut some X shaped holes near the top of the bottle.
Excellent idea and at no cost, I tried so many costly stuff no great results, thank you for this, I will definitely do this starting this afternoon,

Nice new hive box. 👍

I tie it up in a grocery bag and throw it in our outside trash can on trash day
If the flies can fly into small holes to get the fruit, why can't they simply fly back out thru the small hole(s) again?
Confused. 🤔

Feed it to chickens , they love them.

@@BroussardHomesteadthis may sound ridiculous, but have to ask…. Don’t more flies just start showing up? 😂😂 I’m sure that gave you a good laugh

It actually worked! Great video
I was about to buy a fly trapper, but this sounds like a better idea.
It’s at least worth a try. Won’t cost anything
Can i use normal white vinigar also?
Can’t hurt to try
Great Video!!! Thanks!!
cool
So far we aren't having a problem this year because its been so dry but if we do I will make some of those.

Didnt know what to use for bait
It does stink. I wouldn’t use this in the house.
@@BroussardHomestead Thank you.
I’ve done vinegar, dish soap, and sugar before inside the house. It worked for me but no clue if that was just luck
Would distilled vinegar work too?

I think that it's.....awesome 😁
what can i use thats not gonna stink?

Just tap water with a drop or two of Dawn dish soap works well! You can add a splash of vinegar to it also, but just water and dish soap works.
good one
Thank you very much.
I liked your video because you did not bother the spider!!!!
Can you put anything in the bottle so it doesn't get ranced smelling or do you only recommend for Outdoor use?
I recommend using this outside. The rancid smell is what attracts the flies
This is great, but won't it also cause you to have nets/fruit flies? Those things are worse than the flies..
FLIES here are Crazy this year. got varity of traps; but, need to make Bunch of your kind.
I’m filling them up fast. These and the bag traps. SO MANY FLIES!!
I’m hoping bees wouldn’t find their way into the trap. Have you had this happen?
Awesome Thanks!!
You can use meat too. What would you put in the trap to attract Mosquitoes?
Right. I chose not to use meat due to the awful smell. Not sure what to use to attract mosquitoes. I would rather repel them lol
Sodium bicarbonate and a little vinegar...
Mosquitoes are attracted to CO2, that's how they find you...
what could i possibly use instead of rotting fruit? i need it for my room and i dont want my room to smell like rotten apples

Not sure. We haven’t fought fruit flies.
Active yeast in warm sugar water should do the trick.
Thanks for helping out 😊
Does white vinegar work as good?
Haven’t tried that. Worth a shot.
If you have chickens can you feed the flies to them and will they eat it?
Absolutely!
That was the most casual and disgusting comment I've ever seen on Reddit. Congratulations!
This is not a plug caught flies using the fly bag. The video is on my channel it really works

Any substitute to apple cider vinegar
how big are the fly...that much food..lol
Are you going to feed them to the chickens?
❤
I have a sensitive nose, tho. And I cant stand the smell of vinegar all day and night inside my house.
Any other sub I can use, instead?

do i have to use fruit that is rotting?
It’s best. The odor of the rotting fruit is what attracts the flies
Quite simple . May I ask....can we use pineapple instead of apple?
Any rotting fruit will work
@@BroussardHomestead thanks
Could you then dump this in your chicken coop for some free protein?
Absolutely
will onions work since i dont have any fruit
