I can never choose just one. It's impossible for me to try and compare Nina to Maria Callas, Mavis Staples to Beth Gibbons, Èdith Piaf to Patsy Cline etc.
Though Nina does captivate me unlike any of the others.
I saw this Great Talent star, so inspiring at the troubadour in 1968, she teased me I was 18, Said" I was a Rich White boy! If she only knew what I had lived through." knocking on doors alone at night no family, I prayed to god on my knees! When your mother and father and brother forsake you Our God takes us up! She knew pain and suffering, her music soothed my soul.
Thank you for posting this, someone introduced me to Nina Simone 2001, till this day I'm still listening and watching her incredible talent. True story teller❤

You have to have lived through that period of time to appreciate just how revolutionary what she was doing was. She was the only black woman I know of, for instance, who was wearing her hair naturally like this in 1965. Nina Simone was as real as they come.

It's heartbreaking. She's such a beautiful soul, pure emotion, her voice and expression are a true gift from God. I don't know how it is possible all those people sitting there are capable of just listening to it, almost emotionless, I can't hold the tears any time I hear her voice.

They became friends and he still cherishes her music and keeps the letters they exchanged. I lived in Franklin Towers during the 1990s. Nina lived in an apartment on the ground level near the pool. I never interacted with her but she had problems that forced her daughter to intervene several times like she would park in my Brother's parking spot instead of her own and she had on at least one occasion had gone into the sauna either completely unclothed or mostly unclosed. I was dating an english girl for a time in the early 90s and she's like... "do you know who I just talked to she lives in your building!!". I think it was a sad ending for an artist that was so important in early career.
I would give her my parking spot ... living in an apartment is really sad she might have made fortune from her talent for god sake!

I was introduced to her albums by my late husband and through the song Mississippi Goddam. Loved her ever since and have tried to introduce her music to my children and grandchildren. A wonder artist then and still.

I have heard of Nina before but have never heard an entire song before this. Thay first stories (songs) before. It's captivating. She leads the listeners into her headspace. The bass player was sensitive to follow her lead. It was great!
