    The James Buchanan one I think was by far the funniest. Having Michael say "she" I think was perfect giving his rumored reputation. After watching this, I'll need to look into Rutherford B Hayes. Only things I know about him are that fantastic beard, and the Telephone was installed in the White House during his presidency. Only critique, I would have figured for FDR, Michael wouldn't say anything but just gesturing, as if saying "Do I need to say anything here?"

    • @nerdtalk1789
      @nerdtalk1789  Год назад +3

      Rutherford B Hayes is in my opinion the most underrated president in history as he is seen as the reason reconstruction ended and segregation took the south. But this is wholly untrue. Reconstruction was on its way out, the north and the south were sick of it because it had caused the long depression( panic of 1873) the second largest recession in American history, and the south was once again threatening to succeed. So Rutherford made the decision to withdraw troops from the south. He was also able to turn the economy around in a single term and oversaw one of the fastest economic recoveries in America history. He also signed the Indian protection act, which recognized Native American Territory as sovereign land. he also signed an act that allowed women to be on the Supreme Court, which was huge back in the 1870s. He also vetoed a bill that would’ve restricted Chinese immigrants from coming to America, as California was becoming exceedingly xenophobic during that time, and Rutherford Hayes wasn’t having it. He was also in staunch opposition to corruption, and took out and destroyed corrupt super PACs that ran many elections.

    As a fan of US History I agree with most of these. I’d say the ones I dislike with are:
    Andrew Jackson (absolutely hate him)
    Rutherford B. Hayes (Not a fan of him)
    William McKinley (I know a lot of ppl like him but I think he’s one of the most overrated presidents we had)
    William Howard Taft (tbh he is really good. Trust busting, creation of the Children’s Bureau & the 4 Supreme Court Justices he picked are some of my favorite things about him. It’s easy to dislike him because he’s not Theodore Roosevelt but I think that’s actually a positive thing. I’m glad he wasn’t Roosevelt, Taft wanted to do his own thing and I admire that)
    John F. Kennedy (Honestly I was surprised you didn’t like him, most ppl do. To be fair I don’t know what you look for in a President but for me he checks a lot of my boxes. The Equal Pay Act, rejection of Operation Northwoods and his handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis were great. To me he was a good President but I like how you thought outside of the box with some of your picks. I respect that).
    Lyndon B. Johnson (I wouldn’t say he was horrible but his handling of Vietnam was pretty bad. What he did for civil rights was really good though. So overall I don’t think he was bad but definitely not that good).
    George H. W. Bush (After learning about some of the stuff he did in office I think he’s a little underrated. He was a nice guy and he definitely cared a lot about the elderly with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Labor Standards Amendments. However, his Vice President (Dan Quail) was probably one of our worst VPs in history and I do admit he was somewhat of a war criminal and the whole thing with the Gulf War is a can of worms I’m not touching with a 50 foot poll).
    And that’s about it. Overall I’m glad you said Presidents like Martian Van Buren, John Tyler, Benjamin Harrison and especially Woodrow Wilson were bad. I hate Wilson with a burning passion so when you showed the “QUICK GET OUT! GET OUT OF HERE” clip I was delighted. The Inspector was delighted. And I’m glad you said that Grover Cleveland’s 2nd term in office was awful. I’m not a fan of Cleveland but his 2nd term was a waste. Idk what the hell the doctors gave him during his surgery when he got a tumor removed from his mouth but I guess that must of fucked him up. Anyway, great list. Now do Supreme Court Justices next. Actually don’t do that. That would take forever and I only know a handful of Justices anyway.

I guess the only one I will talk about is Jackson, because he obviously did some terrible things, but people tend to just look at the bad sometimes. His handling of the nullification crisis quite literally saved the country and he is the only president in US history to pay off all the national debt. Not to mention new trade routes and strong foreign policy. And for the bad, you have the Indian removal act, bank war, and spoils system. so I would say he has a mix of great and terrible things. and some of our greatest presidents did terrible things. FDR? Japanese internment camps. Ronald Reagan? Iran contra. George Washington? sent financial aid to Haiti to help suppress a slave rebellion. It's just that the Bad of Jackson has been more popularized then the good, unlike the former 3. I think it's fair to hate him, but also fair to recognize his accomplishments and the time he was in. Yes, this is one that many people have been confused about, JFK is often seen as one of the greatest presidents of the United States, but as a historian I feel that he is grossly overrated. There are many comments on this video in which I explain it to people but I’d love to do it one more time. John F Kennedy had a lot of talk, and albeit he was a very inspirational president with his words. But his policies nearly ended the world. The Bay of Pigs invasion was the worst military upset in American history, and he was the one that ordered it, we got slaughtered. When diplomatic solutions with the Cuban missile crisis didn’t seem to be going well, John F Kennedy started drawing up plans to invade Cuba again. This would’ve most definitely started World War III, diplomatic relations didn’t soon get better. Then there was him marching tanks up to the Berlin wall, for no other reason but to show strength in a time where strength not need to be shown. he got us closer to nuclear Armageddon, then any other president. not to mention the fact that it was him that got us into the Vietnam war, war that many think today we should not have been in at all. in terms of economics, he spent over $100 billion in federal spending and was the first president to do so, he also started the war on poverty, we just wasted billions of dollars of taxpayer money. not to mention his scandals, Kennedy was very corrupt and I had many ties with the mafia, who were involved in helping him with the election of 1960, throughout his presidency he turned a blind eye to their actions. He was also a womanizer and might’ve been involved in the death of Marilyn Monroe but that’s more of speculation, but it’s not speculation that he had been with way more women during his presidency.

(He also proposed an immigration policy overhaul which later went on to be the Immigration and Nationality act of 1965), so while yes he’s had his flaws most notably his ties to the mafia and womanizing (tbf most men at the time were so you have to look at it from a historical perspective as well) and he could have stood his ground better to avoid the bay of pigs fiasco, but to even merely suggest he was a bad president is wrong (but I do agree he is a bit glorified and while I think it’s more than earned I don’t think he’d be as popular as he is had he not been assassinated unfortunately)
