He is. I met him some years ago at an even, killing time backstage. I had no idea who he was (didn't know the name). He was sitting there alone so I sat down next to him to pass the time.. He was just a lovely funny guy and I found out waaay later that he's actually a great actor. And a great guy.
I grew up down the street from him when he lived in Connecticut - he's SUCH a lovely human! He's so kind and gracious and really friendly. His house also had some kickass Halloween decorations

I've only known him through his characters. Now that I'm seeing Giancarlo as HIMSELF, my respect for him as a person and an actor has increased by several orders of magnitude.
I was working on a thing with him once, and at the end of the day Giancarlo gave a speech about his journey to create a film from zero to directing to wrap, and named a number of the cast, and reflected on what he liked about them, and his journey not being possible with all these people in the film family. What a true, real, legitimate, caring, wholesome individual. Personally I don't think we've seen his best work yet, and he's never made a dud. More to come from this amazing soul.
What a delightful man. Also, what a gorgeous head of hair he has! Haven't seen it like this on the screen. Would love to see more of Giancarlo Esposito in movies & tv.
Mr. Esposito!! You are an absolute class act!! That had to be one of the best interviews I have seen in a very long time!! Your enthusiasm is so contagious, you brighten the darkest day!! Cannot wait to catch up on all your shows and season 2 of Mando!! Thank you
Wow he touched on Joseph Campbell and the Hero's Journey. That has been what I have been studying for over a year now and even have books on it and have given a presentation. Love that he brought that into the interview. What a great guest!
Joseph Campbell's work really blew my mind when I first came across it many years ago. It's always a pleasant surprise when someone mentions it online. BTW, his interview with Bill Moyers is a great introduction to his ideas. Fascinating stuff!
Well and Star Wars is the epitome of the Hero's Journey! I think that's why Mandalorian has been so successful, because it's the hero's journey all the way! I love what Faveau, Filoni, and the cast, Pedro, and Giancarlo, are bringing to us. I totally feel like a kid again watching Star Wars. Giancarlo nailed it perfectly what the series is about, and what it's making fans feel.
The baby represents the perfect whirlpool of cloying absurdity, masking its ultimately pointless nature as a marketing tool as it draws us ever deeper. The relationship between the baby and the Mando reflects the vacuous nature of all transient human interactions. Through each episode, the viewer is tasked with reflecting in themselves the grotesque parody these relationships represent, and the crude facsimile of joy they produce. The discordant credits score reminds us of our own descent into madness in attempting to chase a dream that no longer exists. 5 stars.
Heard him on a podcast a few months ago and really just seemed like a lovely guy. Very interesting life growing up, very spiritual and artistic and outgoing.
i'm just here to give Giancarlo his flowers. he is and has been an AMAZING actor for decades!!!!!!!!! from Do The Right Thang, Left Ear, to Gus on Breaking Bad, to all his newer stuff. you are appreciated. and yeah, i dont think i'd approach you either, no offense.
Thanks Seth for interviewing Giancarlo. Giancarlo - such a great summation of the character development of Gus and having watched all of BB and BCS, I's like to thank you for such an amazing portrayal of this person and the journey you have shown.
@@courtneycoto1287 I love it when an actor who plays amazing sinister baddies turns out to be completely the opposite. It shows you what an amazing actor they are and there’s nothing better than bad turning out to be good. He never over plays the bad. He hardly raises his voice.
I met him briefly at a fantasy con in February before the lights went out. What a charming intelligent positive man. His interaction with his fans was legitimately heartwarming. Who he really is such a contrast to the characters he plays..
Giancarlo is the best human I’ve ever met. So gracious, kind and down to earth. Met him several times over the past and he always remembered my name. Impressive actor and person in general! Love you Giancarlo!
Seeing the cool guy that is Giancarlo Esposito makes his performances all the more impressive. I always look forward to new films and shows with him in it. Great little interview.
He and Taika Waititi have a similar energy. Very upbeat, doesn't take himself too seriously, naturally funny, clearly brilliant. We're better off as a species for people like him.
I've only seen Giancarlo recently, particularly in The Boys and now The Mandalorian. This guy is born to play villains. Phenomenal performance in both series.
Yes! That was the first thing I ever saw him in. His ability to snatch you out of your body and drag you into his character's pain and frustration was amazing. And...he's also incredibly handsome. Lol
Tia Williams Yes, I saw him on a celebrity ghost 👻 show. He lived in a house in CT than was haunted. During his time living there he said his marriage & finances were not doing well.
his scenes in Mando are by far the best so far. i cannot wait for S2 and all the scene-chewing he'll undoubtedly do... "Your astute panic suggests that you understand your situation."
Ok, mind blown. I’ve heard Giancarlo with a Mexican (Cuban? I forget) accent in. Remaking Bad. And the British, cold, something elegant accent from Mando. So to hear this very natural American, urban LA (vs. beach LA) accent just had my jaw dropped. Love it!
Great actor. First saw him in the greatly underrated 1991 'cult' movie 'Night On Earth'. Wish it was available on DVD or streaming. PS: 'The Mandalorian' was really great. 'Grogu' was really cute. And Giancarlo was great as Moff Giddeon.
Obviously he'd have to be nice and charming to work with to get money. But seeing him as Gustavo, then as Gideon, seeing him in the new Far Cry. This man's calming, yet terrifying presence is the epitomy of unsettling and villain. He is one of the best villain actors I've seen ever.
You know I somehow knew he was going to be like that despite having never seen an interview with him... he plays villain's to well and too often to be like them and he's just a free spirit similar to Jeff Goldblum (albeit I don't think I have ever seen Goldblum in any role that is quite as dark as some Esposito has played.) and I love it he is awesome on screen and off, I just got done watching the Boys season 2 and am so happy he is a part of that as well, and I didn't even know he was part of Better Call Saul, I may need to watch that now...
It's great to see him from where he came from with 'Do The Right Thing' and "School Daze".. Spike Lee and of course Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul! I'll have to catch up with The Mandalorian!!
Giancarlo seems like an absolutely delightful person!

what makes it so lovely for me isthe way he laughs that reminds me kinda of James Earl jones who voiced Darth Vader and had such a lovely laugh too
Yeah thats what I was afraid of. I like him as a calculated cold stone killer
It’s hard to see him as the ruthless killer Gus Fring
When he's not playing Moff Gideon, he is. 😁
I grew up down the street from him when he lived in Connecticut - he's SUCH a lovely human! He's so kind and gracious and really friendly. His house also had some kickass Halloween decorations
Did you see his episode of The Haunting of? It was at that house! His brother saw some stuff there as well.
Yeah right
Crystal Method Ridgefield, CT Season 1, episode 13. Beautiful house.
What a delight of a guy! I'm even more of a fan now. He's just joy. For more Giancarlos in the world
Took the words right out of my mouth!
Exactly. Not at all how I thought he'd be in real life
Really well said. He is a delight.
You must be easily impressed.

Only a man who resonates that much light can play dark characters gracefully.
He is pure light. What a treat.
Some of the most cohesive and eloquent answers I've ever heard. Wow! He really knows his stuff and actually talking about his work
He seems to be extremely genuine and has his stuff together! Excellent interview!
I agree.
It's deeply disconcerting and amusing to see him so cheerful and upbeat.
