Hannah Duggan if your parents don’t know him personally and agree that his work is great then honey - their hate is for the colour of his skin. Hope you grow up to be a better person and not indoctrinated by that toxic narrative that nothing but cancerous to humanity
Hannah Duggan your parents do not know him. Stop lying. They’re not loving people because they HATE someone (who is Indian) not because he did something wrong to them but because of who he is. That is toxic and hateful and racist behaviour. Secondly your name is hannah duggan - stop lying about your family being Asian. If they were your parents wouldn’t be so hateful and they would understand the language spoken in Bollywood. Anyways hope you don’t turn out like them. Whoa :O I had no idea he's only a year older than me!! That's crazy.. Some actors go their whole careers trying to find the depth he's been able to achieve in his roles.. That makes me love and respect him so much more lol
You can simply understand that Dev loves women. I don't mean sexually, I mean that Dev loves and respects women for all that they are as human beings. I just love Octavia as well. I couldn't think of a better person to break down racial and gender barriers simultaneously. ❤️

The fact that we're just finding out about these black women that put these white men into space...man...makes me sick. But I am so glad that this story is being heard and seen and that Octavia Spencer is starring in it. She's such a brilliant talent. Have been for decades.
Jamel Smith I knew about them, I was ten years old when my Dad read to me about them back home in Africa but the only problem is in America nobody likes to talk about black people who are doing good
Stories like this are long overdue. It saddens me that movies like Hidden Figures have to be 'celebrated'. They should be common knowledge. I can only imagine how many more such stories have gone without notice or have been buried as irrelevant.
Usually I watch these 'actors on actors' videos and after 3 minutes Im bored. But Dev and Octavia just have this amazing and candid conversation with true respect from both. I am just more in love with both of them!
God is he a modest guy. He keeps deprecating himself and complimenting Octavia Spencer's work, I notice he interrupts her everytime she's about to compliment him and switches the focus on her.
This made me a bit emotional. Two great thespians, succeeding in a discipline that was for so long reserved for white people. I'm so glad and thankful they've chosen to share their passion and craft with the world.
Aikosar I'm obviously talking about the North American film industry, which has become the standard to which movies from many other countries are compared. Also, colourism is present everywhere, I see it in the movies produced in my country (Mexico) and in Pakistani and Indian productions, so just because they're not Hollywood it doesn't exempt them from falling in the same traps.
are they really 'movies' or 'musicals'. sadly, I have never been into Bollywood. I can't get into serious cinema and at the end - people burst into song!
The thing with bollywood is, there's a lot to choose from considering the # of films they put out per year. There's enough to cover all bases. You don't have to go with the mainstream cinemas that have more of a shallow, basic plot with 6-7 songs in extravagant colorful sets out of nowhere or they sweep you right into London or whatever. Just google offbeat bollywood films/artsy bollywood films, and you'll get a good number that'll probably be right up your alley. I suggest a movie called Kahaani for starters, it's one of my favorites and it's a good dip into bollywood without being thrown into so much new culture you're left confused. It's just a really solid film everyone should watch.
I might have cried a couple of times watching this. My favourite convo so far. I just love both of these people anyway. Octavia and Dev can do no wrong.
8:14 , Dev is so on-point when he talks about Octavia's "maternal instinct". I always found her to have this compassionate, motherly affection toward her profession ❤
As an Aussie, I fully endorse these compliments. Dev Patel did possibly the best Australian accent I've ever seen. Also, LOVE him with long hair and a bit of a beard. Hotness.
I love how intensely he looks at her and is listening to her. It's like he is looking deep into her and through her. I could watch this forever. Both great actors, very genuine. Still, I love Dev in this candid manor. It'd be wonderful to just have a conversation with him and to have him look at me this way.
ohkay they aren’t coloured. They’re brown skinned. Saying they are ‘coloured my implies white is the standard and the rest are shaded in. This is not the case. Factually And scientifically. Have more respect for people who are not white please
I watched this 3 years ago but I couldn't understand English at the time. However I knew how precious this was so it inspired me and I learned English and now I feel so blessed by this interview. It's so beautiful and they're so good listeners... I just wanna hug and love both
Wow it only took you 3 years to sound this eloquent? I know people who speak English as a first language and they can't even construct a coherent sentence.
Wouldn't it be something if these two did a movie together? Also, really, someone had to dislike? You had nothing better to do? I could watch this again and again.
I love what Dev said he learned and took from Octavia's role. That when you do something together you're more likely to succeed, and when you do it's your responsibility to help others who were like you. Octavia's character did that with supporting other black women. Dev applied that to himself as an Indian actor helping other Indian actors succeed and get roles they deserve. But you don't even have to apply this lesson to just race. If you have every struggled through ANYTHING; mental disorders, abuse, sexism, poverty, addiction etc, and you have succeed to overcome, please use your blessings as a way to bring up others who are struggling like you. The beauty of humanity ❤️
I really love how there are 2 minorities from different cultures. It's really awesome to see an Indian actor in Hollywood because it's rare! And of course an African American woman who does not have your "typical" Hollywood look! This gives me life!!!

This interview was incredible!!!! I wasn't expecting the chemistry that they had! Great job Dave, Octavia, and the entire Variety production team. #pleasantlysurprised
I love this interview in particular very very much. I love the little things about this too; the way Octavia calls Dev honey, the way Octavia rolls off Dev's tongue in the beginning of the interview, how humble they both are, the moment Octavia got emotional when Dev was talking about that one scene in his movie, how intelligent and genuine and sincere and kind they both are...every little thing about this amazing interview I love.

Bollywood, french, Chines & asian films, iranian films a lot of good stuff but reach & budgets are limited compared to Hollywood. O can see Bollywood making some high budget CG movies recently. Indians migrated to EU & US for economic reasons. Now we have a sizeable population( 2nd & 3rd generation) call US their home like Dev Patel.
This was my favorite of the ones I've seen so far. It really touched me and made me feel connected to the conversation and the emotion behind the elements they discussed and their approach to portraying real people. It was also inspiring the way they talked about using their work and their ability to convey hope and the spirit of humanity and diversity through the films they make (and how that is away to help the world we live in). It was a very genuine, heart-felt conversation and I'm really glad I paused to watch it.
