Something I learned on another youtube video a while back the nobody ever told me is if you cut slits in between letters or designs with your scissors on your transfer sheet just before you apply to glass or mug, it will go on smooth and has the extra little room to curve with the mug. It has legit saved me tears! Ps thank you for the microwave test! I have been curious!
Interesting!
Thank you so much for this. I have seen everywhere that 651 is not microwave or dishwasher safe and its good to know that it can be.
Glad it was helpful!
If you heat up a store label (on the bottom) with a heat gun lightly first, it peels off like a glove with no residue left behind. :) (no risk of cutting yourself). Just a tip I love sharing with everyone.
Thank you!
This is super helpful for a newbie Cricut crafter, thank you so much!! 😊
You are so welcome!
Thankyou for sharing, I think the main concern for vinyl is whether the heat would cause it to release invisible fumes which is then transferred to the food or drink ... This can only be tested in a lab I guess. I use permanent vinyl on thermo mugs that wont be put in microwaves. again, thanks for testing, saves me from trying the heat transfer vinyl on a mug.
You are welcome. Thank you for watching.
It is not a good idea at all to put vinyl in the microwave. Vinyl = PVC, and the heat from the microwave heats the vinyl to unsafe levels, releasing toxic (poisonous!) fumes. So, it's not about protecting the mug. It's about protecting your lungs and health!
Yeah, I was bummed when I found this out. The first project I wanted to do was vinyl on a mug. The only way I'd do it is if it's something that's going to be decorative (pen holder) instead of used for drinking. I can't give one away and say don't heat it or put it in the dishwasher. I am now looking at waterslide and sublimation, both which are safe.
@@suemarie6032 I've not heard of either of those but you can bet I'm going to look them up. :) Thanks for the reply, and good luck!
Is it htv vinyl or permanent vinyl?
@@DeborahRubinplus AFAIK, any vinyl. It's all basically plastic. If it *is* microwave safe, it will say so on the packaging, but I have never heard of any, personally.
What about permanent vinyl ?
Thank you for this video!!!! Very helpful
Hello. If I use a multi color foil vinyl how long should I leave in the mug press. Or should I use transfer tape.
What about vinyl with glitter?
Hi just
wondering if you would happen to know where I could get some transfer stickers made to put on to some coffee cups in Newcastle area pleases
Are coffe mugs oven proof??
I've seen people put them in the oven, toaster oven and air fryer to cure.
Thank you. Will now try some experiments to see how my chosen vinyl goes
Let us know how it goes. Let’s learn from one another
What kind of transfer tape did yu use
HI There - I have painted my terracotta coffee mugs with acrylic paints on the outer surface but could you please suggest how I would make that microwave safe, dishwasher safe and food safe basically which resin/sealer/chemical to use? Thank you
I’m really not sure. Let me do some research.
Peace! Tried some of your links and there's an error. Love your craft!
I will check them. Thank you for letting me know
How to get the removable vinyl from paper studio to transfer. Please help. I have the shimmer and solid colors.
Sorry got a little behind with school starting. What do you want to transfer the vinyl to? Are you talking about transfer tape?
When using the permanent vinyl can you bake it in the oven to make it adhere better?
Permanent vinyl 651 on cooking ceramics are not oven safe. You should, also not leave it in the microwave too long to avoid over heating the vinyl causing peeling. To make your permanent vinyl 651 colour safe longer, hand-wash them. Most importantly don't put any metallic finish vinyl into the microwave. Fire hazard due to the sparks.
Thank you for sharing!!!
Do you always put the mugs in microwave when finished?
This was just an experiment. It is not a necessary part of the process.
Can you put modge podge dishwasher safe over the iron on vinyl and would it work better for the microwave too? How many minutes in the microwave?
I need to think about your question. I tested the cups a few times. I honestly can’t remember the time for each round of testing.
What kind of vinyl are u using?
Permanent vinyl. Thanks for watching!
Have you tried foil vinyl?
Not for the microwave.
Metallic vinyl should not be put in the microwave
Your yt name is my life. I'd like you to meet my therapist 😅
This is my therapy 😁
I have a quick question what will happen if you put a mug in a microwave with nothing in it for 99 mins and 99 secs
The cup itself will probably break so it would be pointless because when would we ever need to do this unless using a microwave spacific ceramic kiln for glass fusing, and even then I dont believe its for that long.
whatever you have in the background making noise (assuming it's your machine cutting) is super annoying. Probably should have a quiet area to record...just sayin
Hahaha! I’m a multitasker. Those are my cup turners running. I’m sorry that it annoyed you enough to leave a comment, but I’m thankful that you watched. As more space becomes available to spread out I’ll do better. Until then, I’ll keep trying to give you something valuable in the space that I’m in. Have a good one my friend.
I used htv on my mugs and wine glasses
Thanks for the additional tip.
