No no no. Don't buy obsideon shards, they are easily bought with volatile/unbound magic or karma.
Yea the are so easy to farm Please don't buy them. Why is the Legendary started kit getting an honorable mention when its the most expensive item in the Volt. The weapon can cost close to 100 gold and any of the Gifts can cost 200+ Gold. You will be and Idiot if you don't get this item. New or Old player. It's the best Item by far.

Yep, as a fairly new player. I had a million Karma I didn't know what to do with, when I needed it for Ascended crafting, I just had to go to Orr and buy a f*ck ton of it.

Sure, it's not the quickest way, but if you do them daily you'll be able to get 10 obsidian shards for 25 HoT Map currency from time to time. I was obsidian broke before but it hasn't taken me long to get close to a full material stack
Best items to get from the vault, currently:
1. Legendary kit chest (*IF* you aim to craft for yourself OR to complete the legendary and sell on TP) - the value of that single item is insane and has been estimated to be between 400 and 500 gold. Keep in mind the price of the legendaries mentioned in the chest will go down as the season progresses and more people craft them, so it's best to get it ASAP if you plan on selling.
2. 6AA Gold Pouch. Immediate gold, very cheap to get.
3. 9AA Mystic Coin. Be sure to check the current price on MC before buying that. If it goes near 1g, you will probably gain less than 1g after TP tax, so this might go down the list as the season progresses.
4. 15AA Black Lion Mastery coffer. You can sell the item inside to a vendor for 1g.
From then on, you could argue it's not worth continuing for immediate gold, because the 30AA gold pouch is a bit too much IMO. I'd focus on skins, because they'll go to the Legacy tab next season with increased price.

If you add the value value of spirits shard to the clovers they can become more valuable than black lion mastery coffer.
There are 2 types of GW2 players. Those with always over 3000 spirit shards and those with always under 200. Spirit shard value is only for those under 200. For those players, spirit shards can be worth anywhere between 0.4 gold to 1 gold depending on how they are used.

I am sorry, but how can you recommend obsidian shards with a straight face? 60 AA is way too much, you can buy 10 bags of gold with that, or even better buy 3 laurel bags with 30 AA and then exchange for obsidian shards. Not to mention that you randomly get obsidian shards when harvesting guild stuff, and get flooded by them by spending 10 minutes in wvw.

If you’re going to spend your laurels on heavy crafting bags, it’s more worth it to actually just buy the heavy crafting bags from the astral claim shop. (10 astral claims = 1 laurel = 1 heavy crafting bag - 8 astral claims = 1 heavy crafting bag from the shop)
Its honestly pretty handy if you have alts with Celestial builds. I regretted using Laurels for T6 mats.
10 laurels can buy 10 heavy crafting bags, 10 astral claims can buy just 1

I guess that during the whole season you will have time to do both. But I personnaly would not use laurels for T6 bags when you can easily farm them in Dragon Fall.

You can get obsidian Shards from Tactician Deathstrider in Straits of Devastation for 2100 Karma each. Dont buy these from the vault !!!
Anyone who spends even a modest amount of time in WvW will be swimming in obsidian shards. Also the ore synthesizer in any Path of Fire guild hall yields ob. shards with a small chance of 10 shards. Don't buy those as they are easily sourced elsewhere.

Love your content, but this list is very "noobtrap" heavy.
1. Don't even think about obsidian shards!!!!! So many better ways of getting those!!!!
2. Mystic clovers are very overprized! (probably because obsidian shards are overprized) just get mystic coins or gold to buy mystic coins to gamble for the clovers.
3.the legendary starter kit is OP!!
PLEASE don't buy Obsidian shards, there are SO MANY better ways of obtaining them, im making like 2 legendary every month, i never got in a position to need more of them...
Sorry but Laurels and obsidian shards are noob traps. Never buy them.
The only thing I can think of with laurels is that if you only have the base game you will have limited access to ascended trinkets, so for a starting player you can get them after getting the better ones like the legendary kit, limited gold, mastery box (item sells for 1g), coins and clovers.
Where can I buy ascended accessories if I have expansion?
With regards to the Legacy Vault, the phrasing they used was all exclusive cosmetic items will end up there. So anyone who wants one of these specific legendary starter kits should probably make it a point to grab it before the end of season.
More 'tricks' for converting AA to gold- Black Lion Mastery Coffer is about half the cost of the uncapped Bag of Gold, slightly under twice the capped Bag of Gold. If you need more than the 90 gold, buy the Exp Coffers and sell to a vendor.
Since many players tend to run quite low on gold, since you can turn your astral claims into a limited amount of liquid gold every month, it might be worth it to consider that as a frame of reference regarding whether or not something is more worth it to buy from astral claims, or just turn them into liquid gold and buy the item in question from that.
Don't forget the 15 aa black lion chest sells for 1g so if you run out of the 6aa bags it's cheaper than the 30aa bags
Also the limit is per season (i.e. 70-80 days), not per month
Using Astral Acclaim to purchase obsidian shards is a massive waste given how easy they are to get. They shouldn't even be in the Wizards Vault tbh.
Bro i usually love your videos but this is just some awful advice on the obsidian shards, mystic clovers, and bag of crafting materials...the Legendary starter kit is far and away the most valuable thing in the wizards vault and should be #1 on any list as its multiple hundreds of gold worth of materials. Mystic clovers should only be bought here as a ladt minute necessity as there are many other ways to get them more efficiently. Big yikes on the obsidian shards.
The legendary kit is definitely the best pick not an honorable mention, just straight out best money for your time.
Secondly the weapon and armor pieces.
Then the MC, cheaper Gold bag.
Skins should be honorable mentions as there depended on fokes personal preference.
True, the legendary kit works great for gold turnaround however if I were going to use that acclaim for the kit, I'd like to utilize it to create the legendary and right now none of those legendary items are on my radar. I also speak of how this is what items I am purchasing for my specific case!
Do not buy obsidian shard, that's like a bait. I have a tons of them by just doing a bunch of activity and I dont even know what do use them on. The legendary starter kit is arguably one of the best if not the best item you can currently purchase in the vault.
True the kit has great value and does provide some great crafting materials, I currently do not have any interest in those legendsries and as such I've put that as a lower priority for myself.
I do still need a bunch of shards and I don't have too much time to play the game to farm them so this method works best for me!

Did you do the math for buying Mystic Coins from the TP vs using AA to get the 6AA coin bag and using that to purchase MC? I've heard buying the coin bags is better.
Clovers on the Wizards Vault are so expensive its a bit much. There are much better rewards and clovers are not that hard to get.
gold and coins are roughly equal at the current prices, the legendary chest if you need it is clearly place one
but the obsidian shards are absolute waste. The Clovers, you can roughly say is 3 coins make one clover. So these are ok, if you have nothing else to choose, but too pricy
The first grab for me was the Legendary starter box, there are a few reasons for this.
1. It immediately adds significant value to your account.
2. I don't have a single legendary weapon
3. It covers as you said a significant expense for said legendary. You get a gift of that legendary which is an immediately 100 gold savings (mystic runestones) which is a completely unavoidable gold sink.
I decided to pick Bolt, despite the other legendary options being good, Bolt as a sword has significant utility for a large variety of classes. And most importantly, I have no progress into getting a legendary sword, unlike a staff (getting Aurene's Insight slowly). Plus Necro's are getting swords eventually.
I also picked up all the mystic coins, and will get all the Clovers as well. From that point on I will either save to get the griffon skin if there is time (probably won't be) or I will pick up Laurels.
True! I suppose the problem I javelin with the kit is the fact of finishing it by doing world completion and godt of Battle. Both are projects I don't have on my timeline quite yet.

The legendary starter kit is by far the best deal. I picked up the one for Quip and got the Chaos Gun (account bound), Gift of Might, and Gift of Quip. That's over 400gp! The only reason not to get it is that you already have all four legendaries offered. If yyou aren't interested in getting legendaries, change your mind! Also, gold for 6AAP is a better deal than Mystic Conis for 9AAP, or heavy crafting bags for 8AAP. Go for the gold first.

0:48 the maximum of mystic clovers would mean you'll spent 1200 astral acclaim (AA) for a measly 20 clovers. compare that to the 1000AA for the legendary box giving you a precursor and some gifts, practically carrying you half-way through the legendary. with a bit of luck you can create 20 mystic clovers with two tries in the mystic forge.
I think the only way to justify the clovers is if you already bought the coins and you were working on legendaries other than gen 1. especially if someone was working on gen 2's and had been burned by the mystic forge (250 coins for 25 clovers on my last one.....but i'm...not...bitter...)

I'm building eureka rn, but if the starter box contained frostfang, I'd swap in a heartbeat. I also expect a great drop of the box specific S1 leggies in TP, since, with the box, clovers and coins it's now fairly easy to get one. Great quality of life, getting the rewards in any desired order.
Karma can be used to buy obsidian shards. And karma is overflowing in SotO

What would I need in additions to those legendary starter kits for one weapon?
I plan to pick ascended weapon, because I'm still in first month playing and I don;t have any ascended items.
For me as a new/current player who is atm lvling a revenant and doing vault dailies I'm saving my aa for the ascended chests. I might also buy the legendary kit as well cause I do plan on crafting my own legendary weapons as well
The ascended gear is great value especially if your just getting to max level! The legendary kit is a great choice too!
1 mystic coin worth 1.17g right now and you need about 3 mystic coins averagely to craft 1 clover.
That means 1 clover worth about 3.51g so basically 60AA = 3.51g. Meanwhile u can trade those 60AA for 10g (with the 6AA = 1g option), that is 6.49 gold extra u could've gotten
True, of course you can go through this method to acquire the mystic clovers or even gold but if it's simply put that I need 5 clovers right now, why do I need to min max my gold or Astral acclaim?

Also the ascended armor chest doesn’t contain every possible stats (no viper for example)

I wanted to buy the Ascended Weapon first, but I was wondering whether you could actually pick the weapon or if it's a random pick out of the set you choose. I'm still not certain which weapon to pick though (if you can choose, the wiki article seems like you can), I really like the Shield skin for my warrior but maybe I should pick sth like Greatsword, Axe or Hammer ^^

Dude wtf?! Use karma to buy Obsi shard or do RIBA(Silverwaste) meta and chest train after RIBA meta is over to farm those Shards and gold. I have like tons of stack of Obsi shards from RIBA alone.
True, those may be more fruitful but many times I do not have the capability of logging on to play hours straight. I opt for them here because I can usually get my dailies done in about 10 minutes and be good to go!

@@CaffeinatedDad You can always sell a legendary weapon you craft and buy the one you want. Also in my opinion if you're spending anything other than karma for obsidian shards you're wasting the currency.
I'm a filthy casual so the ascended gear and weapons were my first choice and then legendary kit, all I need is the tier 6 trophies and I can make it... Ill do it tomorrow :P

I suggest perhaps deleting this video and reuploading when you fix the major issues. Like telling players to buy obsidian shards 🤦♂️. You’re going to misguide so many players. As a gw2 content creator, you need to be more responsible. Delete, fix, and re upload. And new players, ignore this video you’ll get noob trapped to infinity. Pretty disappointed in Caffeinated Dad with this one.
With respect to your opinion, I disagree. I state a few times that this is my personal list of things that I am going for and that each player may be different in their objectives and goals. To me, the time saving usage of Astral acclaim versus farming, either karma or other materials, is higher value to me than making sure I min max everything.
While I appreciate your concern, I stand by my opinion of what I am doing with my acclaim!
@@CaffeinatedDad Almost everything you do in the game you do gives karma, alot of casual and newer players will likely have a few million karma thrown at them without them trying to farm it at all. If your struggling with karma I'd recommend selecting the +10% guild buff for karma and get the Karmic Enrichment for another 15% for a total of +25% perma karma bonus. 20 Obsidian Shards cost 42K Karma (21K if you have lots of extra HoT currency to spare). You could also go pick winter berries for about 15 minutes to get enough unbound magic to buy 20 Obsidian Shards.
LW S3/4 can have easy dailies too for quick karma and UBM. For example, today Bloodstone Fen had a use the 1 button 5 times in the air and gather 10 of the floating unbound magic in the air, for a total of 9K karma + 400 unbound magic for less than 1 minute of gameplay. That's about 8.3 Obsidian shards for one minute of work. Even if you just happen to do things like raids, strikes, fractals, and some meta events can give you 40K+ karma in around 30 minutes.
My point is you don't have to "farm" karma and/or Obsidian Shards, it's practically thrown at you for doing just about anything in the game. If still you didn't have the karma the time it takes to farm 20 only takes a couple of minutes, not hours of grinding. Obsidian Shards would need to be at least ten times cheaper in AA to even start to be considered reasonable.
Is he unaware of all the other ways to get obsidian shards? I typically went to the vendor in Orr and bought obsidian shards with karma. I would NEVER buy obsidian shards with laurels
Personally I do not purchase shards with laurels, I made mention in this video that you could.
Also when I made this video I emphasize that I don't have lots of gametime to farm shards via Karma or any of the other ways!
If you're a new player I'd argue that the ascended weapon is the best, mainly as a sign that you're progressing. Getting a bunch of mats that you won't be doing anything with for a long time may have you never using them. I built up Clovers from the logins for years before ever using them. Getting the first ascended set is the biggest hurdle for new players.
Didn't even mention the Mastery coffer that sell for 1g at a merchant before jumping strait to the 30aa gold bag.
Mystic coins can also be purchased for strike currency

@@CaffeinatedDad Yep, the vendor just got transferred to Wizard's Tower. SotO strikes now give green prophet shards, and EoD strikes give blue ones, like IBS.
I picked up those ascended armor/weapons so fast. Very surprised by how fast you can gain the currency!

GG to anyone who doesnt have the latest DLC. I got the previous DLC bundle a few months ago and my dailies have been trying to rush me into places that are far ahead of my current Heart of Thorn story progress. I'm missing out, yeah.

@@CaffeinatedDad No, If I could find a way into the marked zone they can be done. Right now I'm near the end of Season 3, But I often get objectives in the dessert or swirling jade area down south.
I am not interested in rushing or skipping ahead of my current progression focus to check the daily box. It also means I still havent had any mounts yet either but i'll get there, eventually.
I'm sorry but I have to say this please DO NOT buy obsidian shards for laurels, it's a _huge_ waste of a very valuable, limited currency for shards that you can get a billion different ways, some of them almost free. Sorry this is not even a topic of debate or opinion, this is bad advice.
True, if you have excess karma or other materials that can be used this looses value. Personally I don't have a significant amount of time to farm for what shards I would need so I prefer this method because of how quickly you can do the dailies!

I'm good on the laurels. They're pretty expensive, but I relied on my login rewards for those for so long, I'm glad to get this alternative way of getting them. Obsidian shards, however, are too expensive to be of any value. There are a dozen better/cheaper ways of getting them. Don't waste your money here.
How do you get Laurel from log in rewards?
@@Cashcash08 Well, the days of the login rewards are gone, but the Wizards Vault has laurels. You can use your daily Astral Acclaim to purchase laurels, but I recommend you only do so after you buy all the Mystic Clovers and Coins as well as the legendary box if you're into that.

#1 Mystic Clover - that is such a subjective choice to put as general advice on what to pick first, idk. And at the same time putting the legendary starter kit and the ascended boxes as honoroble mentions is just a tad weird imo.
#2 Mystic Coins - in this section you just selected a couple of the vendors, not even including the pvp one? like why? Also mentioning raids but not strikes. You could've just referred to the wiki for more info if you did not want to bloat the video, it's all written there. Or made the screenshot a tad bigger to include the other options. Also not mentioning what the "not mystic clovers" alternative outcomes are or mentioning if it's trash or at least somewhat ok is, again, imo a weird move.
#3 Laurels - imo is a good general choice, especially for players without LW season 3 where you can get the Magic-Warped Bundles in ember bay or ascended trinkets for cheap.
#4 Obsidian Shards - this is a noob trap. If someone does not care about value, then I don't believe they would watch a video about ranking the rewards. In some special case, sure that might be a decent pick, but for general advice it's more akin to buying the luck or gold find. Of course not as bad, but definitely faaaaar out of the realm of good. There are numerous ways to get these cheaper (again, wiki has a list of vendors). Karma is easy to come by doing almost anything in PvE. Also part of reward tracks for both PvP and WvW as well as random drops from 2 of the 4 guild halls if they have harvesting nodes. Also obtainable from farming silverwastes, which is still a popular farm and available for core accounts (for people that like to farm). If for some reason short on nothing else but obsidian shards and AA to burn, sure, but again bad for general advice. Including these in an advice on what to buy list is bad. Not mentioning anything about alternative aquisition methods is terrible (as it hinders an informed decision).
#5 Bag of Gold (the cheap one) - there is almost no reason not to get this. Before buying the 30AA bag it's better to buy the mastery coffers for half the price and selling them for the 1 gold. The 30AA per gold bag is just the baseline for spending AA after having purchased everything else of (personal) interest or when someone needs the gold.
#Honorable Mention - Ascended Gear - would've been nice to mention that it only allows to choose core game stat combinations and maybe also that stats can be changed in the mystic forge (mandatory high level crafting involved)
#Honorable Mention - Legendary Starter Kit - "it's not a bad choice" oh my, especially compared to #4. It's easily best value if you want to have one of the 4, probably also for people who want to sell it (needs still a good chunk of stuff and depends on price development as a lot of people will do this). Imo just getting it for gift of might or the gift of magic and using it for another weapon would be worth it.

This reads to me like only the exclusive cosmetics will go into the legacy tab, not all limited purchasable items. The wiki summary of the cost for exclusives also explicitly excludes the legandary weapon starter kit, so I think it is still open whether or not it will go into the legacy tab.
TL;DR
I don't get who the video is for. You state at the beginning it is just your opinion and the list is sorted according to your needs. The title is chosen accordingly. BUT then you go on and present every point as general advice. As the former, you can do whatever you like, but as the latter imho this is terrible advice, especially for new people. Also including raid vendor but not including strike vendor is a weird choice.

I mean, I am pretty dense, but I never for once entertained the idea of using astral acclaim on obsidian shards OR books of knowledge =P I mean, they are in the same class of "bad."

Don't forget: Ley-Energy Matter Converter, Karmic Converter, etc. They won't ALWAYS have what you want, but if you log in daily you are going to get your Obsidian Shards and other items (not to mention those lovely Machetes for the Dragon's Stand meta.) Also, it's not even a week through the new expansion so people that are in a massive hurry for this stuff should probably slow down. Yes, I get in the grind-it-and-finish-it mood, but I know what it's like when I have nothing left to work on. Don't be in such a hurry for content drought.

1. Legendary Weapon starter kit (assuming you will craft one and sell / use it)
2. Build Template Expansion (If you would make use of them and buy them anyway they are valued at almost 120g)
3. 60 Mystic Coins
4. 90 Gold coins @ 6AA each
5. 150 Laurels
6. 20 Mystic Clovers (if you will craft a legendary)
7. 30 Heavy Crafting Bags @ 8AA each
8. 20 Black Lion Mastery Coffer (open them and sell potions to vendor)
9. 3 Ascended Armour / 1 Weapon chest if you need them
10. Everything cosmetic is optional.
Vision Crystals, Upgrade Extractors, Obsidian Shards, Revive Orbs, Lesser Essence of Gold, Large Crafting Bags @ 40 AA, and Build Storage Expansion are all absolute GARBAGE and SHOULD NEVER BE BOUGHT at the current prices.

@@recur9245 You can always inspect the chest before buying it btw. Also, now that you have it and are sure you don't want any of the legendaries, you might as well get a Gift of Exploration and Gift of Battle, craft the leggy and sell it on TP for 1k+ gold.
Clovers are rip off, i got heaps doing wvw reward tracks, the best first buy is 1000000% the legandary ..... And raw gold also pro tip the mastery one gives 1gold for 15 astral, this is the worst video😢
Also I don't think the ascended is worth it, weapons and armor easy to get, remember you can stat change them fairly cheap

Ascended is “easy” for players like me who have max level crafters and/or can farm T4 Fractal dungeons. But, newer accounts may need a little help.

What a waste. Spend your Astral on items your can't get any other way, like the Griffon skin. I'm definitely going for the Mastery Coffer since a lot of HoT masteries are a PITA. Also if you're new the the game, you can use the coffer to improve the Skyscale Mastery from PoF while focusing on the SotO Flight Training Mastery. Then later on if you have extra, you can spend it on whatever you want. At least, that's what I'm doing.

With regard to the obsidian shards, I opted for them here in the Wizards Vault because some players may not have expansions or dlc. The Karma purchases are an alternative but my thought was that it's easier to purchase from the vault versus farming karma. Please note!
Noted, but methods like Riba are available, and are very easy to opt into. Riba farms drop obsidian shards quite easily, I find.
When you buy the game, it gives you a lvl 80 booster and teleports you to Silverwastes, where every bandit chest has an obsidian shard. I hope new players don't watch this video because it actively does harm to the community.
Go to the GW2 wiki and search for Tactician Deathstrider, he is a Karma merchant in Straits of Devastation. Its in the base game, you dont need any expansions for this. When the meta is complete you can buy Obsidian shards from him. I just went there to check, i can buy 1000 shards from him. One is only 2100 Karma. PLEASE rework this video, this is no good advice.
