  • Real Time with Bill Maher hits its 20th year on the air next year. It’s been Bill’s vehicle to challenge, and often mock, politics of the day from a left perspective. But Bill’s one of those old school liberals you don’t see much of these days-an adamant defender of free speech and critic of wokeness.
With Russia and Ukraine news right now, we revisit President Trump’s presence on the world stage and his relationship with Russia versus that of President Biden. We’ll also discuss left wing media’s misinformation and dishonesty the last two years, and what it would take for Bill to vote republican

@@swedishguyonyoutube4684 The only offensive bit is calling the audience useless. Other than that, critique the format. Bill's show is from a different time and culture, when long-form chats were impossible to broadcast successfully. But with podcasts? It is and always will be better, just like how sitcoms are bland without the laughing track and people willingly listen to free college courses and difficult literature.

As a recovering drug addict and a fat guy, the issue with obesity in our country is the same issue we would have if the majority of our country was drug addicts. Addicts who aren’t ready to quit will lash out at any criticism. They blame every external factor that caused them to get fat/do drugs in the first place, but refuse to address the one thing they can control. And that is your own choices. Been sober for 2 years now and am down 80 pounds.

I'm a mid-40's Portland OR liberal who has been a big Bill Maher fan since the Politically Incorrect days. I share just about all the same views as him and, like him, I've been steadfast in my liberal views while the left has turned full-on mad with the woke nonsense. But I also subscribe to Ben Shapiro's channel here and a few other right-leaning channels that are rational and fact-based. I think the extreme right (ie people who think Trump won the election and that the war in Ukraine isn't even happening) and the extreme left (ie people who think math is white supremacy and 3rd graders should be taught that men can get pregnant) are both toxic. The rational sides on both the Republican and Democrat party really need to stop tearing at each other's throats and start talking to each other instead of yelling, and understand that BOTH sides are going to have to make compromises. That's how it works. Neither side is going to get everything they want. Compromise is a healthy thing in government, not a sign of being weak or capitulating on your principles. Really glad to see this conversation. Ben has been on Real Time w/ Bill Maher as a guest, as has Milo, Bannon and a number of conservatives. Hopefully people on the right start watching Real Time the same way liberals like me are now watching Ben. Real Time is not the Biden worship hour like many conservatives think it is. Both Ben and Bill's shows involve great fact-based discussions & debates, something missing from most other shows these days. This conversation is great. Even where they disagree, they keep it completely civil. This is how it should be. Not the AOC and Lauren Boebert types who are constantly saying over the top and absurd, kooky statements to get headlines & retweets. People in these comments are acting surprised Bill came on this show, but I'm not. Bill has never had a problem talking to Fox or any conservative media, and Bill repeatedly says he prefers doing stand-up comedy in red states over blue because of how easily offended liberals are nowadays. Hopefully this video shows conservatives who Bill really is, not the misconstrued caricature of him that the internet has created based on assumptions and mischaracterizations. Ok, done with this novel of a comment!

@@SS-gx7tg Very well said! I hope everyone who sees this comment listens to what Bill says at 26:10 ! I feel the exact same (and I also live in Portland OR!) When I go to dinner parties and backyard bbqs these days, most people I talk to are sick of the extremes on both the liberal side and the conservative side. Not to sound all kumbaya but we really are quite similar, regardless of political position. We shouldn't be so eager to snap at each other just because we have different ideas on what's good for America and our society. Talking to each other and having reasoned debate is not a bad thing. Sadly my own party thinks even talking to Republicans is akin to 'normalizing hate'. It's embarrassing. Bill is right, we haven't changed, our party has. It's the same on the right. I have lots of conservative friends and they're just as embarrassed by the nuts and shenanigans going on in their own party. I think reasonable Dems & Repubs feel ashamed and embarrassed at what their parties have become. I remember watching Trump vs Biden in 2020 and thinking how cringe it was that these were the 2 'best' candidates America put up for the top job.

I know this because I have watched his shows from time to time dating back to the late 90s or early 2000s. The world has gone so far left, he is now being accused of being right-wing. @BenShapiro , It's been 11 months and time to make it happen. This is by far my favorite podcast you've ever done. And at the end of it Bill Maher invited you to join him on his podcast. Now, I can't be the only one who was looking forward to listening to that podcast. Especially because of the format in which he wanted to center said conversation. He said, "I'd like to have you on to get to know the real you" and then followed up with examples of a few personal questions. Which, in turn, made me realize I've seen countless hours of conversations you've had and although I may know your political views, I don't really know who you really are.
I searched on Google and RUclips to see if that specific podcast ever happened and didn't find any results. It's entirely possible that podcast did in fact happen and I just can't find it. I’d also like to see this. I don’t agree with Maher on most of his politics, but at least he seems pretty informed and can defend most of his viewpoints, at least to a degree. He isn’t a malicious liberal, in my opinion, just a bit of a naive one. I think most liberals and conservatives have most of the same concerns, we just differ on how to solve our problems. Either way, if every liberal was like Bill, confident in their views, and willing to elaborate on them, I think we could more easily find common ground, and America would be a much better place. I don’t mind disagreeing with someone, so long as they’re informed and their opinions are well thought out, it’s the blatant lies, misinformation and blind indoctrination I see on the left that I have a problem with. And does it exist on both sides? Sure. There are ill-informed republicans who also can’t defend their views and resort to name calling, but it just seems SO much more prevalent on the left. Most conservatives seem willing to change their opinions if you show them proof of something, while most liberals can look at the proof point blank, and still deny it. Or worse, refuse to even look at the proof, because it might shatter their delicate worldview. It’s pretty disheartening to see people so stuck in their ways that they won’t even consider alternate views or evidence that suggests they might be wrong. It’s incredibly dangerous what’s going on in this country politically. We seem to be sliding toward civil war, or even outright dictatorship. We really have to defend our 2nd amendment rights at all costs.

The most refreshing video on the internet, and a clear understanding what is seriously wrong with social media today. We can disagree without lashing out and wishing the death (or worse) of someone we do not have a common ground with on topics. I do not understand the hate, the vile disturbing hate in todays society, I do not agree with most of Bill Maher's stances but he has my utmost respect. Well done gentleman..12 stars

This is the kind of thing that could save America. If everyone adopted this same approach to political discourse, America would be healthier for it. But no we've just gotten more and more divided in these supposedly United States and it went from disagreement to resentment to hatred and now a lot of people think it's going to turn violent.

Yeah well, you have a bunch of liars running for president and it's the moderators who let them lie. It's the candidates who are left to interrupt, name call and scream at them during their lies. If the moderators would hold the "leaders" accountable, then those with grounded morals might have a chance to have a grown up conversation like this. I disagree with Bill's perspective on some of this as well, but also can appreciate that he's not forcing it as the right perspective, just his well thought out perspective.

    • @voteZDLR

@P. Cameron I do think we're heading toward a civil war basically. But not everyone will participate in it, regardless of how strong their political opinions are. I think it will resemble the "civil war" in Ireland where basically it resembled terrorism more than anything else. Assassinations of political figures, bombings in public areas, etc. The main problem in America is there are corrupt media organizations who went from sort of representing both sides, to resembling only one side, and all the information people get is politically charged on top of being biased. Most people only get their information from the side they're bound to agree with and neglect other viewpoints and opinions and then the information is tailored to make them hate the other side more and more over time. This has been ramping up and going like this for the past few decades. The news companies are making a fortune doing things this way but it's destroying the fabric of the country. I do think it could be as soon as this November for the midterm elections OR it could be after the next presidential election. Fortunately, I think the side more likely to engage in violence are the Republicans and I think they're going to win in November as well as 2024 because Biden and Kamala are so bad. If they lose somehow, though, I do think the Republicans are going to start beating the drums and we'll start seeing violence far worse than anything we ever saw during the insurrection of January 2021, which was basically an attempt at a coup of sorts.

Biden is pretty much a joke to anyone that is a fan of radical guys like Bernie, and while I agree with more of his policies that lean toward the left, I see him as not much more of a shill to neo-liberalism and/or corporate greed like Bush before Obama, or even Obama to a certain extent. So for all you should be concerned I voted for Kanye West, because I just really don’t think getting into a conversation where the basic starting point is “who did you vote for” is anything more than reductionist and disrespectful on an intellectual level. True, but the the reality is, if you live to 90, you've hit the genetic jackpot and it's the reason why a person doesn't have the health issues others dies from at earlier ages in the vast majority of cases. Most people that are thin, are people who eat largely anything they want(to a degree), yet stay thin. That same genetics is also why they live longer.
