  • The Stihl MS180 range of chainsaw are reliable and easy to start. This video shows basic maintenance, chain bar tensioning, avoiding kickback, checking the oiler is working, starting procedure & cutting down a small tree.
This is just a rough guide and is based on my personal experience, hence if you are looking to use a chainsaw, read the manuals and get professional training. This video does not show all the potential pitfalls you can come across.

My 1st chainsaw, & that choke had me confused. Had no clue about the danger of cutting with the tip. Thank you for making this video🤙🏼❗️

When you are installing the bar and chain its a good idea to pull the bar upwards with your other hand while tightening the chain. And then continue to pull it up while tightening the bar nut so the bar remains in that up position when you are ready. While you are using the saw your bar will try to go upwards anyway and the bar nut friction cannot keep it tight enough, especially with these small saws with only 1 bar nut, so the bar will move up and then the chain tension will change. Quick test: grab the bar, tighten the chain and then let the bar go, see what happens to the chain tension. So, keep the bar pulled up while you tighten everything and the end result will be better. When you say you have seen the chain loosen in use this is what you actually see. Its the bar that moves and loosens the chain. Give it a try, you will see there is a difference. Greetings to all.

Brilliant little saw for limbing, pruning and firewood. I’ve got two pro saws but the 181 is the one I pick up most often unless I actually need a bigger saw.

I love my 181 CBE. I picked it up used in a trade. It is a lot better designed saw than my 180c. It came with one of those 16 inch tapered bars which I will replace with an Oregon 16 inch Versacut bar and chain. My 181 usually rolls over on the first pull and starts on the second pull. I have even had it start in full choke if the weather was cool. I did have to replace the floppy cap on my oil tank. I also replaced the fuel filter because it was the original filter. I have had no problems with my 181. It starts easy, stays lit and relates. What more can I ask?

Good video but operating a chainsaw EVER; without eye protection at the very least is a No No !
