On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

He has an old video from about 4 years ago that goes in depth on the FA 18 Radar. Its a little dated, but its still the best one. It shows you how to save different settings for each weapon type. Theyve added a couple of features since then, but he gives you enough info to get you going

I kind of miss the tactical view in the end. I'd like to see the Flanker's defending maneuvers. It felt as if the Flanker was constantly on the offensive.
That was intense! The Flanker pilot did a wonderful job in lofting these improved R-77 missiles from higher altitude. Did not see that result coming. Rematch in the future?

Always interesting to see the missile's perspective, those things are flying like a maniac. And they don't care they're out of fuel, they just chase their target, that's all they do. Kinda like the Terminator.
It really is good to see FC3 aircraft going up against full fidelity modules and pushing them to the limit (or hitting them in a face with an R-77-1)!

That was an unexpected finale.
So... Setting the radar to sweep through 40 degrees, does that mean that cranking to the gimbal limit of the radar is going to be harder, because you only have that 40 degree window? Or does that only affect the detection of the bandit, while maintaining a lock on the bandit retains the whole 120 degree radar sweep?
I THINK that the gimbal follows the bandit automatically once locked. For altitude you need to manually push the auto button on the right of the mfd though.
Right. The search is only 40° but once the contact is STT locked, GS can maneuver out to the full gimbal limit of 70° off nose.
Second idea
Depends on which tracking mode you are using. If you're using TWS you have to change 'MAN' to 'AUTO' on the right (I think it's the middle button). If you're using RWS like he was using here, that 40-degree search is just for locating and locking. Once it has something locked it will follow that target to the edges of your gimble.
Im no Expert, but to my knowlegdge you can move the scan area as well (either put tdc somewhere and press it or use a mode where it follows automatically), so it is possible to use the 40 degree scan but look at 30 to 70 degrees to your right. If you track a bandit, depending on the selected mode (manuel or auto) the radar will move the scan area with the target to keep lock. I cant tell how exactly (if at all) this differs between TWS and STT Lock right now, I would have to try it out again.
In DCS, I don't know how much of a difference there is between the Charlie Hornet and the Echo Hornet, but I'd like to see a Super Hornet vs. A Su-27.

The radar operations for a BVR fight I don't really know yet, but I find the analysis fascinating. I can't wait to get involved. This looks like SO much fun. Especially the guns only fights. I find those the most compelling, but all the "fights" or "missions" look really cool. Thanks so much for the content and especially the analysis. Explaining things for newbies. I imagine you get tired of repeating about the MAR, WEZ, elementary radar stuff, etc...but I really appreciate it. Great content. Keep it up. Your channel is most often the highlight of my day. Great video. Would you be interested in doing this same scenario/video with the more modern Super Hornet to see how it stacks up? I know quite a few NATO and American allies still fly the legacy hornets, but, considering the USA has pretty much done away with using them and are primarily using the modern Super Hornet as far as the US Navy is concerned, it seems far more likely that a Super Hornet would be what goes against a Flanker if the USA ever gets into a hot war with the Russians that the US Navy is engaged in. Anyway, like I said, great video.
This video tells me more about the missiles than the planes. The fact that Su-27 was already high and recommited by the time you defeated the missile tells me he defeated the AMRAAMs with ease way sooner which allowed him all that time to get high and comfortable to fire higher probability of kill shots at Hornet.
correct but the reason he was able to do that was because the hornet is slow (relative) and therefore amramms that come off the hornet are easier to defeat. I would bet most of those missiles might have hit him if I was in the F-16.

Not to make GS anymore legendary but I wonder if GS is involved in the development of of pilotless planes- able to easily surpassed the limits of man.
You know they already have mind blowing stuff that we can only guess about.
And the humans who pilot them will be different from traditional pilots in both physical and mental features.

And STT is a stronger lock than TWS, because the radar is only focused on one target, while TWS focuses on multiple.

Well explained information about how the BVR missiles work. So I thought about you creating a BVR/Dogfight scenario between the MiG-29 and the Felon, GS. I need you to do this gameplay to compare the technological capabilities of these two planes. Anyways, great content again and keep low as always against BVR missiles in the next few videos!

It was my third watch through, and I still messed up his vertical recommit! :(
So I was wondering how much missile protection does ground hugging gives, because ground hugging not only provides enhanced radar clutter but also provides a fake signature of the target via reflection. So if a plane is sufficiently close to the ground, then the missile will inevitable drive into the ground next to target plane.
The question is that can there be realistic scenarios where a plane can fly sufficiently close to the ground on a flat plain such that it is practically invulnerable to radar guided missiles?
