I spent 12 years in Army Aviation (UH-60s). On one deployment we worked out of 2 hangars at Balad. Looking down at the floor you could see a HUGE patch job on the floor. Bigger than our helicopters. Look up and there was a patch job on the roof about half as large. EVERY SINGLE METAL DOOR was bowed outwards along the ones in the underground passages. Most INCLUDED the frame around the door. Those before us dropped some party favors and later when we took over the base they patched them up so we could use them. More than a few hangars were left blown to hell. In the back of your mind you think. Lotta good these hangars did for the last owners. Here we are working away in them..... Mortars and rockets bouncing off them. Thanks for the flashback. Awesome vid!
During the mission Debrief SIO : “So GS, how’d ya do ?” GS : “Well sir, I hit the target and splashed 4 Mig’s” SIO : “FOUR MIGS !” GS : Looking deflated “Yeah what can I say…I ran out of missiles and gun amo”
I like the legacy hornet I really do but I do think the superhornet is cooler I'm just a a sucker for square intakes and a higher load capacity all my favorite fighter jets with the exception of the F4 Phantom II and F111 Aardvark have rectangular intakes
The Legacy Hornet is better looking, faster, and (mostly) more maneuverable. As they say, "There's nothing 'super' about the 'Super' Hornet. PS - Of course the 'Super' has much better avionics and quite a bit more gas...and thus, more drag. But still, Legacy Charlie's for the win.
That was an awesome vid ! That Hornet is way better than I thought..... To go from air to ground then back to air to air with all those bombs and defeat 3 migs is pretty special.relley enjoyed that GS 👌🏽
This event is actually narrated by the pilot himself on the Air Warriors episode on the F/A-18. It actually says he shot his first missile (Fox 2) as is customary for under-10-mile engagement, thought it didn't connect, and fired a Fox 1 just as the first one impacted the bandit. It's a nice recreation here.
The main problem with Sparrows in the Hornet is they default to Loft. So when you fire them they just go straight up in the air. Always have to remember to set it to Norm when merged.
Honestly, I like missions more than dogfights and BVR. A/A missions (like the one protecting the special forces) are fine too, if there's any story behind
Absolutely love how you only talk when the perspective is in the cockpit. Makes it feel as if im watching real combat and a fighter pilot just happends to be a youtuber. Great work keep it up👍

This one was really awesome, love the historical aspects! Also, the new beat that you have at the end of the videos is pretty sweet. Keep up the good work, I've learned a lot from your videos.
There's just something about the legacy Hornet. I think it's because the design was originally developed for the same competition that produced the Viper, so it's still got some of that agility and speed even after saddling it with the A2G capability. As opposed to the hulking behemoth that the Super Hornet has become.
Its also just being a carrier plane, same as F-14. Needs low speed agility to land on carriers. The F-18s we got in DCS are also one of the very few US Hornets that got a more powerful engines. I think the Marines got 10 of those, rest was export. Navy only had slower Hornets.
There is a certain part of the powerband on the legacy Hornet that produces a bit of a howl that is almost as unique as the howl produced by the RAF Vulcan.
I love this format. I would love to see more missions or campaigns. I like to see your thought process on engagement. The dogfighting engagements are entertaining but they don't necessary show all what you showed here. Thanks again.
