    This kind reminds me playing the Battle of the Coral Sea back in Pacific Fighters. Using pure dead reckoning to fly for what seemed like hours hoping to find the enemy carrier fleet, the excitement and thrill of actually finding the fleet and attempting to put a bomb on target, and then navigating back to your own carrier hoping you had just enough fuel to get home. I sure miss the days before kids where I could take an entire afternoon and run those missions.

    So I have to say. I enjoyed the mission, even though it was a bit longer than I expected to be. However, I had some issues.
    Alley Cat had a bit of an issue coordinating flights initially. We had a push order for a reason and before we were even done aligning, other jets were on the catapults that weren't even supposed to be there yet. (Also there was no stored heading alignment for the tomcats so it took 8 min to align but it could just be an A-model thing, idk)
    Our flight lead wasn't using their radios at all and we basically just left without them after getting permission because that person was just flying in random directions.
    After getting permission to go direct to the tanker, we get vectored west because we are about to go to Iranian airspace. Well whose fault is that, you cleared us direct.
    War Party arrived entirely too late to drop their jsows. Didn't matter overall because all the bandits had been taken care of, but slightly frustrating.
    Red Crown committed us to a bandit and then committed another flight to the bandit as well, resulting in two AIM-120s being shot over us by 100 feet then maneuvering down to the target.
    The 14A is a PITA. That is all.
    Overall, I enjoyed it, and would do it again. Some things to work out but it was fun. Looking forward to the next one!

    I've always been interested in doing big missions with people like this but I know I'm not nearly a good enough pilot or know even the surface of what my F18 can do. Would anyone recommend any servers to practice on, where to go to learn things, or any tips for someone still learning?

    • @jacepost1356
      @jacepost1356 8 месяцев назад

      There are lessons, and honestly downloading and reading the manual for F18 helps a lot. Plus just a lot of in game Instant Action Missions or just Creat your own mission and learn start up, radar, landing.. etc

      @@jacepost1356 can happily say that 2 years later I’m comfortable providing air to air support in both the F18 and the F16. Moved to VTOL VR for the time being lately- just faster to jump into with my limited time. For anyone reading in the future, just keep practicing your favorite module and make sure you’re having fun learning what you want to learn!

    I can't believe I watched the whole thing. Good work. Great demonstration of what a real life mission might entail for younger DCS pilots who might join up and one day be ordered to return their F/A-18 to the ship after a brief layover at Al Dhafra. The Life Accellerator is not just a job, it's an adventure! Today is the day when you stop listening to the tales of other lives lived and begin your own journey. Navy. Let the journey begin!

    you know you can use the mids radio in the hornet, right? it has much better quality and range because it's digital. To use it assign radio 3 and 4 hotkeys in srs. To set it up press D/L, then VOCA/VOCB, hit a number for the channel and then enter. Don't press CLR or it will turn off the radio. If you want to get rid of the ICP display go to another option, like AP and hit CLR twice there to turn off the displays.
    MIDS radio is very good for intraflight because it's basically a free radio, keeping the standard ones free for common/gci, or even interflight (on VOCB) if it's lots of hornets.

    The longest DCS video I have EVER watched. Fascinating to see how "real" A-A and A-G missions play out, while handling tanking at night, loss of spatial awareness, radar and radio failures, comms chatter, pilot loses and low fuel states. This video had it all. Could not have scripted a better movie. Should rename this video Top Gun II, copy and paste over the movie release. Click Yes to overwrite. 😎 Great job folks. Once my rig gets here in December, I would love to join up.
