    I'm fairly big EHX fan and have the SMM and Cathedral from this run but for some reason I have no recollection of this pedal at all. Nice sounds, might have to look around for one.

    This is a great one. I've had mine for about 10 years and love it's versatility and sheer "phasiness". Even though they've been discontinued for awhile they're fairly affordable especially compared to the Ploy Chorus.

    That growly phaser sounds is a lot like what I remember hearing on the guitar hook of "she moves in mysterious ways" by the U2s

      Yes, absolutely. Especially with the string scraping. I was pleased to find that.

    The Subdecay Quasar DLX has always been my fave over the top phaser. I also have their DLX filter so im not too jealous of the envelope mode here

    I liked this a lot. I am relieved for the sake of my bank account to see that it's mono in.
    As someone with a nice little stereo rig at home, I'm really beginning to appreciate pedals that are stereo through, which offers a lot more versatility when putting a signal chain together. Mono input stereo pedals are forever limited to be the splitter in the chain, and you can only ever have one of them if you want their full stereo glory.
    Normalise stereo ins and outs!

    I wish they kept the original graphic.

    Also there are some sounds that remind me of the subdecay phasers especially the quasar v4 which is the most current model and it has envelope phasing - cross threaded dual phasers, fixed filtering, tremolo and a vibrophase (dod) lurking within which is I think what prompted me to tell you about the vibrophase a while back. Outstanding pedal company and designer guy. Their synthesizer pedals are wild and fun, their flangers even tend to have sample and hold filter effects (oh and of course the phaser does too).

      Ooh that lights up a lot of my interests. Cross threaded dual phasers, like a mu-tron bi-phase?

    Nice. But hard to watch without doing the wiow-wiow mouth movements.

    Optocouplers? Does that in "effect" (ha ha) make it a Uni-Vibe? Great video as always.

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  6 месяцев назад +2

      I think we'd need a scientist to come in here and fully Venn diagram what makes a Uni-Vibe a Uni-Vibe. But to me, the main signature of a Uni-Vibe is the lopsided transit of the phase sweep. It carries with it more of a pulse than a circular sweep. They also tend to use a real incandescent lamp with LDRs around it, as LEDs have a different curve to them, and IIRC, the filters aren't all evenly spaced from one another.... which might lend itself to that lopsided effect.
      I could be wrong, though. I'm operating on a few hours sleep. Appreciate the compliment!

      I was thinking that because it actually uses light, as opposed to the FET or op-amp way.@@StompboxBreakdown

    What happens when you max out that rate knob? It sounded like it was about to get into the audio range.

      @StompboxBreakdown  6 месяцев назад +1

      Not quite sub-bass range. Just a real fast flutter

    A pedal like this daunts me because I just know I'd overuse it.

    Is this similar to the mutron/ behringer biphase? Or is this more indepth

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  6 месяцев назад +2

      I haven't used a bi-phase, but it looks like those are two independent 6-stage phasers (complete with two independent oscillators and sets of filters) and the effect really comes from the interaction of those two effects. This pedal is a single 4-stage phaser set up to move the effect left and right. Just another example of taking the phaser effect in another direction.

    Their own *Flanger Hoax* was a much crazier phaser than this.

      For a better take on an EHX (bad/small stone) try a Blackout Whetstone - sounds better at hi-resonance and can cop a univibe pretty well.

      Cool. I'll keep an eye out for that. I've been trying to land myself a Flanger Hoax for a while, they rarely show up at a price I'm interesting in paying, though. Appreciate the info, though.
