Glad to see a video on the spring king. i have one of these. It works well for about 10 minutes then i lose volume. Every time. I stopped using it because of that. I'll be taking a look inside to see if mine has the same issues.
I paid 90 for my new one on Reverb. $119 shipped. I really like it. but it is HUGE. I wanted a real Spring Tank on the cheap. This did it. But I think it's a gateway drug. Now I want a Surfeybear.
Awesome video I've always wondered about this pedal but it never seemed to get drippy enough for me though the kick pad is rad the kicking the heavily reverbed amp is one of my signature tricks
I think you can definitely hear the difference with the tank hooked up, even without it picking up room sound. But yeah the reverb drive is probably a bit under powered. Could be interesting territory for mods. I've seen a trick of using op-amps in parallel for more current capacity to drive a reverb tank. And someone could put in a daughter board with a voltage doubler. Or you could probably power the whole pedal with 18 or 24 volts with some minor modifications. It's really not bad as is though.
Did you have any insight on why the volume is basically useless? I’ve heard it described as controlling the wet/dry mix but mine has no perceptible effect. I know you said it was “subtle” but it just doesn’t seem like that’s right
I must be a muttonhead. Your experiment @ 11:38 confused me; how can you get reverb out of the pedal if your guitar isn't going into the Input? Also, how much of the reverb is coming from the tank, or is it just there so you can bang on the enclosure (the extended clatter @ 5:00 is awesome)? Anyways, another great video! Really fun to see you troubleshoot and fix. Cheers!
Ah, I probably didn't really spell that out. The sound coming out of the Peavey Classic 30 amp is enough to vibrate the spring tank, even though there's no signal coming into it. It's kind of like it's kicking the pedal, but with sound waves. I think the amount of reverb coming from the tank absent of there being sound in the room is fairly minimal. I contemplated modifying the pedal and cutting the output of the PT2399 to verify it, but I also wanted to make sure the pedal still worked when I was done. Thanks for watching, and great questions!
You've got to pick your battles carefully. I won't touch SMT or digital pedals unless I'm preeeeetty sure it's just an issue of a bad jack or loose connection. It *is* possible to solder those miniaturized components, but it's not something I want to spend an evening doing. If it's something with full-size analog components, definitely dive in. Look for anything out of the ordinary, then grab a multimeter and make sure everything that should be connected *is* connected (and vice-versa) then if you still haven't found the problem, consult a schematic and literally trace the signal path. I've been able to revive pedals with burnt-out diodes, lifted traces, one time the only thing wrong was that a chip fell out of its socket.
you can mod it to have controls for the repeats and speed of the delay, I did that to mine. there is smd pad soldering involved tho so be prepared for that.
That intro got me throwing my bra
I’m with the previous poster…this is the best video so far! Some music, some tech, some intrigue…it’s got it all!
Wow, thank you so much!!
My opinion.. this is your greatest video... SO FAR! And I love a lot of them. You do good work!
Wow, high praise! Thank you so much

Thanks, I'll now be singing The Court of the Spring King for the rest of the week!! 😂
It’s a bop!
“No you didn’t” :zoom: hilARIOUS and subtle. Perfect, sir.
SurfyBear metal has got the Drip!
I really liked the Spring King tho before the SurfyBear came out....
That jam that ended around 1:27 was amazing
I really appreciate a good review turned repair, great work (especially diving so deep… you found a kickable plugin)

Always been curious about this pedal!
Nice work on the repair. I did spot the weirdly angled connector, but not the two other things.
Damn never knew you had such a great voice!
Aww, I really appreciate that
Love the singing!
Awesome video!

It's really not bad as is though.
Sick demo jam
Thanks. It was a fun one to write/record
Same chip Dano used in the BLT Slap Echo pedal. That was a good pedal for the $
Would love to hear this with the delay bypassed
Nice job dude
Hey, pretty good singing. No jokes. And review.
If you love spring reverbs, you should definetly check out the Mr Black Super Swell. The best spring emulation i ever heard.

I heard just a tad more of the actual tank reverberation in the mix with it maxed but you’re right, it doesn’t seem like it does much of anything
yes! its a good pedal, but try surfybear metal spring reverb !!!!!
Only $300
Great video!
😎

Aaahh! I get it now. Thanks for the explanation!
I'm often considering broken pedals but I'm loss-averse, I'd hate to feel I wasted my money if I can't fix it. I feel a bit emboldened now, thanks!

Any (worthwhile) mods on this pedal.

@@gillisclarke3764 noice! Smd is a different level of patience
@@LawGone1 yes, it took patience and focus for sure lol
I bought one of these NIB a few years a few years ago and sent it back because it would start squealing, out of the blue.
Kicking and throwing a reverb tank is not a good idea. Ask me how i know.
Did it at least sound good on the way out?
@@StompboxBreakdown i bought an amp recently which was dropped. The tank is busted and i need to replace it. Luckily they aren't expensive...but still
