    This channel is hands down one of the best for guitar pedals, along side JHS. You always seem to pick the pedals id be most interested in like 90% of the time. Great work. I definitely have to pick one of these up. Ive been looking forever for a phaser that is unique and offers something way different than all the others. This is that pedal. Just like thier CF7 chorus, I'll never get rid of that pedal. Dont know why i didn't think to check out this pedal sooner lol

    Honestly amazing how you keep making great breakdowns of these random old effects! I usually just watch your vids and like the idea of what the effects do, but then realize I'll never really have a use for them although in this case I might actually have to pick this thing up. I've never heard a square wave phaser like that, nor have I ever heard a ring mod effect that I actually like.

      Thanks! Yeah, I was really surprised. I expected it to be minor variations around a similar phaser sound. This pedal really blows the idea of what a phaser can do wide open. I still prefer the Phase 100 for its absolute thickness, but this is one to keep around for *that* sound when it's needed.

    This continues to be a very edifying channel. Glad you mentioned the the PH-99, as I was thinking this seemed to be picking up some of those features.

      @@StompboxBreakdown i just got it from reverb I think the seller was from Arizona I'm not sure I still am waiting on a DOD gunslinger which should be here Monday and a bananana mandala glitch shifter that should be here Tuesday I ordered everything on the first except the bananana mandala I ordered like the 26th and it's the last one to show up and the one I was the most stoked about I also got a ginean hairy show which is a DOD carcosa part for part rip off they even use old carcosa circuit boards I have a gonkulater from them that's the same pretty much anything that was oem from China during dod brief Samsung era they got the leftovers from and repacked as there own brown I was gonna get a gunslinger copy from them but the original used cost less and I got a jhs crimson fuzz which sound wise is very disappointing it's based on a civil war muff which is normally my favorite kind but they added some weird clean blend and the bass frequency is all wrong

    It has always amazed me that they released three different phasers in this series of pedals.
    Fantastic deep dive, and although I already own a vintage small stone and a red witch moon phaser, I think this pedal just went back on my list of pedals to keep an eye out for. I'd love to have a tonelok friend for my DE7.

    Great Video and a really interesting phaser (i love phasers)
    just a a couple of mistakes though:
    2:40 Small Stone is OTA, Bad stone is using jfets or cmos chips as variable resistors not OTAs.
    7:38 minor detail, but i'm pretty sure this is a triangle wave, which is more typical in analog pedals (sine are kinda hard to do analog), effect database also says triangle.

    Baltimore is my home town, so it’s fun to see BSRI get some love! Hey, another great, interesting, entertaining, and informational video, sir. Well done. I’ve got an FZ7 (which has become my second fave fuzz), and a CF7, so I guess I need to keep collecting this series now by adding a PM7. Ugh! Although, the 7 Series has some truly interesting oddballs, so no complaint. Anyway, I appreciate that you simplify your language so shlubs like me can understand how the electronical stuff affects the sound. Btw, I really dig the wacky sequencer sound. And regarding the Old Pendulum Clock, who knows, maybe this pedal has become a classic amongst foley artists. Oh, and I have quite a few pedals I really dig, but are far “too versatile” to commit to a board, so I can relate!

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  8 месяцев назад +1

      There definitely is something to the way the PM7 does its ringmod-esque thing. I think that it'd be a great source of textures for the background of an otherwise straight-ahead pop/rock song.

    I had this one for some time while studying the sounds of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. He definitely created some of his signature sounds with this pedal.

    I have it and love it, very tasteful and organic sounding pedal that get's weirdo with a flip of a switch. Only downside it's it oscilator that is too noisy, maybe a capacitor or something is defective. I'll let it to a professional to see what's the matter. Great review by the way!

    Couldn't agree more that a reissue of the 7 series (or at least some of them) is long overdue. I don't think I've ever seen/heard the PM-7 before today, I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for one from now on. It is a shame about the switches though, they're really not the best, but there's so many great sounds to be found in these pedals!!

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  8 месяцев назад +1

      At this point, I think all of my 7 Series pedals are questionable in the switch department. It's unfortunate, just not a good design for longevity. Also what's weird is there were several PM-7's on reverb and eBay when I uploaded the video, I hope I don't have to start worrying about the broader effect of the videos I feature!

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  8 месяцев назад +1

      Oh no! VibroThang is such a sweet pedal, definitely hold onto it, hopefully it's just a loose jack or something. The PM7 on eBay was going for $60 the morning of the upload. Agreed, the ones on reverb right now are commanding a high price, but that'll come back down.

    Why aren't they cloned? The circuits are too complex, the parts count is too high, the margins are too slim.

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  8 месяцев назад

      As far as I know, it uses a custom IC, so it’s not just a matter of ordering common parts and putting them together. I also think the real DE-7’s are still so cheap and plentiful that nobody’s gonna make a “fake” one that anyone would pay $150 for, so probably not worth it yet.
