Learning to do carpet work! Thank you for your channel!
That’s great to see your laying the pad. Thanks again
😀👍 you’re welcome
I appreciate your attention to detail and the time you take so that newbies like myself can do a better job in the future. Any tips on how to do a good seam. I'm still struggling with getting a nice seam
You’re welcome

I use duct tape on my seams after stapling the pad down. It helps prevent the padding from rolling while pulling the carpet into place.
Just staple closer to the seam and it eliminates that. But taping the seams is never a bad idea
I tape my pad seams, but I usually use a protector pad.
Tape can over time dry out and start making a crunching noise underneath the carpet. I would never use tape
watching it is so much funner than doing it lol
😂😂👍
The dip in a cushion seam is real. I have felt that in carpet before. Not sure if it’s lazy or smart but I have gone to just taping my cushion seams. Almost every time we use a moisture barrier so that is called for but even on my non-Moisture barrier Carpet Cushion I tape the seam. It almost always happens I drag the carpet around and the stinking seam pulls out of the staples.
Taping in your seams is not good long-term , I know it is required on moisture barrier pad but on traditional pad it’s not a good idea, the tape will prevent your pad from breaking down as the rest of the pad breaks down and then you will have a hump Where your tape is over a few years time as the surrounding pad wears out the taped pad will still be in good shape and thicker
@@FloorsbySouthernboys i dont think i have come across that situation where the taped area is in better shape than rest of pad. Everything we do tear out. It's always just as wore down than the rest of it. But i wonder if colorado weather has something to do with it
I went to a house once and there were three big humps in the carpet it was where the tape was on the join and it didn't wear evenly. It looked terrible.
@@FloorsbySouthernboys good to know. How does tape stop the cushion from breaking down?
@@johnsteier3535 i’m not sure if it is protecting it from the carpet backing or what But I have seen it tons of times in Arizona when everybody taped because of slabs
Cutting pad always seams to kill my blades, really nice detailed video showing how to put in pad properly!
Doesn't help that blades are getting worse and worse every month it seems like
Great video , thank you
Nice video, and a lovely T-shirt ❤️
Thank you buddy
Great video brotha!
Thank you buddy
I run the underlay whichever way is easier and I join on underlay seams as long as the are even and together there is no problem. Only with dual bond would I make sure the seam is 6 inch away from the underlay seam. But the heat bond tape stops any dipping.
👍
I noticed some creaking from the subfloor. Wil the pad and carpet eliminate those sounds?
no it will need to be screwed down before you install your pad and carpet
@@FloorsbySouthernboys thank you. Do you recommend glue as well?
We use scissors for cutting corners down saves on blades
Nice
great install video, this really helps me out. however.. when I ripped up the old carpet/padding, the padding was glued in place on a concrete subfloor. So in that case, should I glue? or are there special concrete nails or staples I can get?
It’s called a pad cement for as hearing pad to concrete
I just pulled carpet from 1890 and they stapled the seems but/and ran duct tape on the seems. Is that a Good idea from those old dead dinosaurs who installed it?????
Moisture barrier pad should be duck tape on the seams, but that is all everything else. It is bad for it.
Using a regular width 7/8” tack strip, we deduct 10% from the carpet yardage to account for pad. If using a 1-1/4 wide tack you think 12% deduction is accurate? Lastly, you mentioned never to run carpet / pad seams in the same direction, but what if the room is 19'.4" x 36' and the carpet and felt pad is 12-ft wide? We were going to have 3 drops.
Just cut a couple feet off of your role of pad and add it to the other end of the brown and that will offset your seems, And I will order the same amount of pad as you do carpet, however you will use just a fraction less but I would not go 10% less
@@FloorsbySouthernboys Thank you. We normally use ECO185 and all that is available is TEC700 or TEC704. Have you worked with any of these adhesives for wedlock plus backing commerical application?
@@vbiddy I sure haven’t, sorry
I'd start inside my closet than roll it out away from it. Rolling towards the closet more work.
😀👍
Is there a method to secure the pad to the floor without stables? Such as tape or adhesive? Thanks
Yes, there is a pad adhesive that is used on concrete

Do you stretch underlay at all or is there any stretch in the underlay you use.I was always taught to stretch and staple before you cut so it doesn’t move when u are cutting.I know u cut first so it’s an easy fix but I’d say that if u stretch and staple first it will prevent you from cutting short.
Never heard or stretching pad.

No sir we do not stretch pad

Refinishing hardwood. Do you have a RUclips on removal of pad staples? So many staples!

What's the name of the stapler you have? What guage would it work on stairs pad
Can someone help me pls. I got a 20 guage stapler for the carpet and don't want to buy an expensive 19 guage for the pad can I use the 20 guage for both the pad and the carpet
I see a lot where installers cut pad to long and it bunches up over the tackstrip
Yup me too and then it’s all smashed flat and then whenever we Take it up , Makes me wonder how they don’t notice it over the strip, do you think it would be a bulge Or hump under the carpet
@@FloorsbySouthernboys ya it shows, it makes the cpt bulge up

Have you ever seen drywall dust underneath the carpet? Why would that happen? Thanks
People don’t clean the floor before they install carpet, I see it all the time
@@FloorsbySouthernboys
The reason I ask is that I'm vacuuming tons of gray dust like sand every day assuming its crushed drywall. I don't know how to get it out from underneath the carpet. It's hard to breathe sometimes.
@@tinylittlefilms3043 I wonder if your floor is gypcrete
@@tinylittlefilms3043 sometimes people use carpet fresh which is a powder people sprinkle on carpet to get rid of outers and search and that will actually get sifted down into the backing and all the way to the floor
@@FloorsbySouthernboys
Thank you I'll try that. I thought I'd have to peel back all of the carpet to remove the crushed drywall dust. Not sure if steam cleaning will get the problem solved.
Do you add glue to it?
I roll out some toilet paper underneath the seam tape. It will prevents sticking to pad.
😮😮
People who dont staple pad need to understand you will move the pad underneath if it's not stapled, ruining your perfect cut to the strip.
Yup
I agree, but use tape at your seams..it holds perfectly fine, plus you won't feel the staples, when walking on the carpet. I installed for years on Long Island, on wood and concrete, never have I saw anyone staple a seam.
You don't stretch your pad in?
According too CFI, staples are not suppose to be in the field
He is CFI certified. Took the class with him
He is my buddy. He’s legit
I’m not sure if that is accurate but if it is I would rather have staples in the field then tape my pad seams Which causes irregular wearing
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I'm cfi also and that it what was said is the way to do it. Either way just a pain to rip up behind someone who stapled seams previously
Makes about as much sense as using pad cement on wood floors
I hope to god you’re not working by the hour because it takes about all of 10 seconds to pad that room and hallway
😂😂👍
@@FloorsbySouthernboys hahahhahahahah!10 seconds to install pad.
