I just bought a nissan frontier, and I thank you for showing me how to maintain it. You can defenetl save lots of money by doing it yourself!! I will continue to learn from you
i used to work in a shop but retired now i own a 2019 frontier . you have to have the engine running while checking the fluid . the only cars i checked like that were hondas. the pump keeps the fluid in all the clutches . as long its in the crosshatch area on hot side your good.
One other thing that is interesting that the factory service manual indicates to turn the dip stick 180 degrees away from the normal fastened position. Has anybody read this same info?
Very descriptive and straight to the the point on how to do drain and fill the transmission fluid. Thanks to your video, i now know exactly what i need to do. Thank you for sharing your experience. I subscribed and am looking forward to viewing your future videos.
After I drained mine. I poured into a one gallon milk jug. It actually filled it up all the way. And I had a half gallon milk jug that maybe took a quarter cup.
When you put the transmission drain bolt back in the pan do you have to put any type of silicone or Teflon tape on the threads to prevent leaking ? Or will it not leak if you put it back with nothing on it ?
So I have a 2015 Nissan Frontier. I have seen your drain and refill a few times. I'm wondering after 2 years does it still work or do you have issues with your transmission?. I know the Nissan transmission is expensive and this is my first time trying to with Valvoline MaxLife ATF
I'm looking at a used 2015 SV with 140000 miles which is really high, but the truck looks pretty damn good. Most of the miles were highway cruising which are pretty easy on the vehicle. If I buy it I will definitely be replacing all of engine and driveline the fluids, so this was a big help.
@@JulianX3__ I actually never bought that truck. However, that concern only applies to transmissions and doing a partial drain and fill mitigates that concern.
Does anyone have clear transmission fluid? I checked the transmission fluid on my 2015 Nissan frontier and it was clear. Never heard of clear transmission fluid before
You know that to drain and change filter and gasket is a good thing and then you should do a drain and fill every three months for one year and then it should be looking like new
My older son has a Nissan HD 4x4. It has the diesel engine and he pulls a triple axle enclosed race car trailer with two cars and lots of spare parts and tons of tools. He loves it. But my Chevrolet is a nicer truck... lol...
Sorry but you need to emphasize that you check transmission oil level with the truck running after you've been running it for a while you do not check the level of your transmission fluid with the engine not running
I can see that the fluid although dirty it still has a bit of pink so you need a passive flush with a tube. Also change filter and clean pan. Then it will be good for 30,000 more miles
is there something unusual or special to check the fluid level. The manual talks about reversing the position of the gauge. see below. Im not clear on that. • To check the A/T fluid level, insert the A/T fluid level gauge until the cap contacts the top of the A/T fluid charg- ing pipe, with the gauge reversed from the normal inserted position.
So given the age of truck, mileage & when video was made it was already out of 3yr. 36K. While I brought the NIssan OEM for mine, I doubt the dealership would be sending this off to a lab for testing and side by side once it has run through a few miles of shifting I doubt you could tell them apart. I wonder how many times the kid at Jiffy Lube grabs what ever hose is hanging over his head when he does your oil? Woods Tree, thanks for the video.
@@anyuser4136 I wouldn't,t know. Number one I wouldn't, let Jiffy Screw work on my Truck. Number 2 because I keep up on my recommended maintenance, I have never had to sit on some highway somewhere waiting on Road side assistance.

Good video .. thanks. So on these newer rigs I’m guessing you don’t leave it running in neutral to check fluid level?

Didn't know that. Thanks for the info!
@@WoodsTreeFarm better recheck with the engine running 🤔
Hondas are an odd ball 🤣

@@thinkingimpaired5663 no i havent ... but i tried both ways and it dont make that much of a difference (ill double check in Chilton and Hanes)
Any change at all is better than nothing and to change the filter and gasket is even better.

Good video sir! Thanks for sharing!! I thought a bird is going to pup out 😂😂😂😂 from that cabin filter👍👍👍👍

sounds about right. Thanks for sharing.
What made you decide to go with Valvoline Maxlife and not Nissan brand S Matic?
It seemed to be a safe bet based on feedback I read on some Nissan forums. Plenty of guys said they'd been running it for years.
I think you should go by the color of the fluid if pink flush if barely pink change it and if very black don’t flush change only
Do you check while engine running?
Did you ever replace the rest of the driveline fluids as you mentioned in the video?
When you put the transmission drain bolt back in the pan do you have to put any type of silicone or Teflon tape on the threads to prevent leaking ? Or will it not leak if you put it back with nothing on it ?
no, I didn't put anything on it. No signs of leaking
It has a copper crush washer.
Did you replace the drain plug gasket?
I did not. And have checked it and it looks dry. No evidence of leaking.
Thanks for your video!

I traded the truck in last year with 110k miles and no issues. Driving a Titan XD now.
Very good video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!

Watch out changing fluid on cars with high mileage. It can cause slippage and damage. Unless it was properly maintained.

How much trans fluid did you end up putting into the truck for an idea on how much to buy
Just short of 4 quarts.
@@WoodsTreeFarm thank I appreciate the video and the info I'll be checking out your other videos

I think there's so little on the dipstick that it just looks clear.
You know that to drain and change filter and gasket is a good thing and then you should do a drain and fill every three months for one year and then it should be looking like new
The transmission is a very expensive thing to rebuild and especially a new one so regular maintenance is essential.
What fluid did you use??
So for a correct transmission fluid reading, check the dipstick with the vehicle on or off?
That’s what I’m trying to figure it out
@@jacklee4362 if I can remember back I think it was with the engine running.
Thank you. Learned a lot !!
Glad it was helpful! Have a great day
It about 4 or 5 quart put a total empty transmission can be like 12 to 13 chords
The manual says that the volume of transmission fluid is 2 1/8 quarts of S ATF.
crush washer needs to be replaced on the tranny plug
Las Nissan frontier también lo tienen?? Como se llama ese filtro?
Filtro de aire como este amzn.to/3UeTUyb
10mm bolt?
I think it’s 4 and 1/4 quarts
Uh, aren't you supposed to have the truck running when you check the fluid?
Dunno but ran it for over 2 years before trading it in and it did just fine.
Good vid
I cannot get the fill plug off to fill
I got the plug off 2 yrs later. Now i am told to wait 10 seconds between drive, neutral, etc.

Those Titan diesels are beasts. Not many of them around. All Nissan interiors are pretty basic compared to other brands, but they're functional.
Sorry but you need to emphasize that you check transmission oil level with the truck running after you've been running it for a while you do not check the level of your transmission fluid with the engine not running

And that's why you measure what came out so you don't have to go through this nonsense.
What nonsense? Only nonsense I see here is your comment.
SO YOU DIDN,T USE THE RECOMMENDED NISSAN FLUID WHICH IS MATC S NOT VALVOLINE. VOIDS THE WARRANTY. OHH WELL
I've talked to more than one owner well past 100k miles and this is all they use. oh well.
