As we say...welcome to Maine. I live in the western mountains of Maine and the weather can get crazy fast. I've been here 43 yrs and I love it. I will never leave.
Thank you!😊 The weather here in Maine is definitely unpredictable and you can’t go by what the weatherman says. We love it here too!! Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!!👍
That’s the beauty of this Great State of Maine ! lol. Any weather is somewhat anticipated and any crazy weather is never out of the question lol. But we don’t have poisonous snakes or bugs and that really the only positive upside but it’s a big one ! lol. as far as weather we have a really wide edge to edge margin ! Great video and great pointers for anyone anywhere ! Take care guys
Thanks so much! The weather out here is crazy. It doesn’t just change daily…it changes hourly. You can’t plan your day by the weather because it changes too fast. We are glad about the snakes but the bugs…we may not have that many but what we do have…they are either big or come in big bunches at a time!!🤣 Have a great weekend!! 😊
Good video. My cousin and I just finished putting together a 14x40. It wasn't built by the same place as yours and we ran in to the same thing with unboxed corners and no nailer for the edge on the ceiling. Anyhow, it started as a shell and now it's a cozy small house.
Thanks! They are don’t think about those details because they are normally making sheds not houses. It would have been nice to know these things when we got ours…hence the video!! 😊
Thanks! 😊 We were going to build our own but we had no building experience and would have been stuck in a small one room cabin till it was done. We did not realize those spots for mice till this past winter. We learned the hard way!!😉
I know where that place is . Just ordered some metal at Kaufman metals. The pioneer place is a good store to get stuff also. Bought most of our lumber from the Amish in that area. Good prices and good people to work with.
Jason, My oldest went 1 year at Maine Maritime. While he was there, they had a Micro Burst that took out every dead, diseased and living tree just pasttheir golf course. Strangest sight I have ever seen. Some real old Red Oaks went down and took power out for a few days. All the Cadets had to go in groups house to house in town to check on the residents. Lots of damage to the boat tied up at the Marina. Some of the older houses lost chimneys and garages...really spookey when we got up there with other parents.
We were anchored at Jewel Island in Casco Bay in the late 90’s when Aa micro burst hit. When it was over we were the only boat that was not on the rocks.. scary stuff
Hi Jason n Jen, Wow how interesting! Good video. I think it would be awesome to have an empty shell and do exactly what you want it. To fun that would be. My little building is only a 12x16 Used as my garden house, I like it and it’s plenty big enough but wished it was wider! And yes we done all you mentioned to keep uglies out. Lol Y’all have came a long ways and it looks lovely. Stay safe, happy and God Bless ❤
Thanks for sharing. I am building a post and beam cottage in the U.P. on block piers with slab. But might buy an Amish shed for a sugar shack. Here a cabin needs to have one wall at least 14 feet to sleep in. Log cabins don't have great r values. I like your garage.
We love our Amish cabin! With using the wood stove in the winter we typically end up opening a window or two because it gets so warm in the cabin. Thanks so much!!👍
We have had microbursts in ND. They are horrible! They are almost worse than tornados or the straight line winds we deal with quite a bit because they affect a small area and there is no warnings.
We had never experienced anything like that here before. There was no warning till after it started. We have never experienced a tornado but that microburst was pretty intense.
Ive been watching u since i use to live in Oakfield Maine and sold my beautiful cabin i would love to find some improved land to be able to relocate or just to spend the summer if u come across any pleae show it
We were just in Oakfield for a craft fair on Saturday. We don’t know of any in the area. Backyard Chickens (another RUclips channel) has been posting property he has looked at in the area. Check him out!
Well…normal summer or THIS summer!?! 😂 Normally we use it maybe a week or two. At night it goes off and we turn on low wattage fans (if needed) Yesterday was high around 80 and last night in the high 50’s. No ac only fans and all was good! During the hot, humid, no breeze days (which we have had a lot of this summer) The ac goes on in the morning till later at night. Once sun goes down we turn on generator if needed. Before bed it goes off and we have fans on the rest of the night. Thanks for watching our video! 😊
Has anyone up your way tried rockwool (mineral wool) insulation in a cabin? Apparently rodents aren’t supposed to like it. I imagine it works in much the same as steel wool.
What is the average cost of a shell by size? Enjoying your content. Is the spray foam at the roof area and corners enough to keep rodents out or is the styrofoam also necessary? I live in KY does this company have an affiliate here. There is an Amish community close by that builds tiny houses for a company in Tennessee, I don’t know if they would be open to building something for the general public but i would like to find out
Hi Wil, prices vary exponentially depending on your area. We purchased ours in 2020 when prices were lower; ~$24k for both cabins. The spray foam at the roof edge and corners will be more than enough to keep them out. We plan to inspect the roof every couple years. If you do a quick google search you should be able to find a builder. Best of luck in your search and Thank you for the support! 😊
We made our first trip to Maine in 2019. We came to see the property we would come to purchase. It was mid January and we got stranded at the Bangor airport due to a blizzard and stayed the night in their hotel. While there, we began exploring different names for our homestead. As we got married (2010) on top of the Crazy Horse Memorial, we wanted to keep to the theme of the Lakota Sioux… We found that a “Hanbleceya” (traditional Native American vision quest), aligned with how we felt this journey was to us. And with that, Hanbleceya Ranch was born. I may talk more about it in an upcoming video. Thank you for the great question! 😊
ALL THE BOARDS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT ARE CALLED " NAILERS " .. A GOOD COMPANY PUTS THESE IN EVERYTIME. YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT MAYBE TOTAL #8 2X4 X8' APPROX $32.
I'm shocked the Amish would not double nail each siding joint. That's code for Any type of building, Plus it's just normal, practice of any decent builder.. Shame on the Amish for cutting Sooo many corners.. Terrible habits to use and to pass onto their workers.
I can’t speak to codes or what should or should not have been done. What I can say is that we enjoyed working with the builder and are very happy with our cabins….our home…
The floors are typically insulated with foam board insulation. Also, once a cabin is set, skirting is insulated. As for the rodents, they’ll attempt to get into anything, all we can do is improve our odds with a few improvements. Thanks for the comment! 😊
Thanks for such valuable information. I loved all the tips, especially regarding mice protection etc. Also wiring.
Thanks for watching!😊

They have all been very helpful. Not only good quality and priced items but their knowledge that they share is priceless!

Those micro bursts are no joke! We have never seen anything like it before. It hit hard and fast. It was pretty scary!

Good info! I really like those cabins!

Here in TX if we had standing water like that we would be overrun with mosquitoes. Is that true in ME as well? Another great video.
Hi Jim! Maine is a wet state so we do have bugs but they don’t overrun us and don’t last long. Thanks and have a great weekend!

Great show. I’d get a sheep wagon
Thanks! That sounds like a great idea!!😊
The last micro burst 💥 I experienced cost me a new roof on my house!!!!! 😢
OMG!! Sorry to hear that!! We are lucky it wasn’t that bad here!!
Thanks for the information. How often do you need to use the Window AC units during the summer? Can they be turned off after the sun goes down?
Well…normal summer or THIS summer!?! 😂

Where in Chicago did yall live? We're in Carol Stream, where did you retire from?
👋 We were both born and raised in the city. Before we left we were in Fox Lake area. I was in retail and Jason was in manufacturing.
Has anyone up your way tried rockwool (mineral wool) insulation in a cabin? Apparently rodents aren’t supposed to like it. I imagine it works in much the same as steel wool.
We have not heard anything…good or bad…about rockwool insulation. Sorry!!😊
If you had a rain catch system you would have about 10 k gallons 😂
Ain’t that the truth!!😂🤣

May I ask how you came up with the name of your ranch?

@@HanbleceyaRanch thank you for your answer. I thought sounded of native origin but not something from Maine area tribes. Love your channel.
Thank you!😊
Where is the cabin tour?
Hi!!
It is in the description of this video.
It is also in our playlist “Amish Built Cabins”

Why no insulation under cabin? They make a treatment for underneath that rodents will not go near. Nice setup.
