    I would save up and invest in fully insulated pipe all the way to the top, including a topper. It might not be living space but it would be a huge loss if the worst happened. You’ve got a lot invested in that shop! Nice work though…..

      @HanbleceyaRanch Exactly! I have already taken the skill-saw to it and removed 4" on either side because it was knocking a few trees on some tighter corners. I have old rotors, used as weights in the center, and I was amazed at how well it dug down and threw the snow aside. I bent a piece of sheet metal onto the beak to reduce the impact on the lumber. We'll see how well it holds up. It's already dented in a few spots. I'd rather that than chunks missing out of the lumber. Great job, though! Happy New Year.

    When i was a kid in the 70's my brother and i worked on cars in an unheated garage with a dirt floor. I learned to keep my tools in the house to keep my hands from freezing when wrenching on things. Eventually we cobbled a stove from a 35 gallon barrel, which only gave us something warm to be near, but it was a huge difference. You will love having that stove in your shop. It really is a game changer even if it won't heat the entire space.

    It's nice to have heat in a workshop. I think when stove pipe is installed it should be inside the stove outlet so liquified creosote runs into the stove to burn. Otherwise you may have it leaking out from the collar you fabricated. Good luck with your stove.

      So it seems there are different views on this…some folks I’ve talked to say to have the pipes assembled as you stated but others say to have it opposite to ensure the rising smoke doesn’t escape through the joints. Crowneagle2 said exactly what I was going to say lol. I’d pull that away a little more from the gable fascia and put a piece of metal there and make sure you’re at least 2’ above the roof for a good draft. Nothing wrong with single wall for that application and nice job using double wall through the wall. Not at all picking but you just built that shop and you’re gonna use it way more than you think now that you have heat available 😂 take care 🍺🍺

    Among other comments from others that are valid, you need 18 inches clearance from any single wall pipe to combustibles, including outside. That franklin style stove is not airtight. For anyone, make sure you have a damper in the top of the stove like you show, or one in the stovepipe for draft control. I have seen franklins take off and be uncontrollable short of pulling the logs out if there isnt a way the control draft.

    • @HanbleceyaRanch
      @HanbleceyaRanch День назад

      Sound advice for sure. Won’t be able to get 18” clearance but it’s reasonable to take another look at the stove pipe at the roof. Thank you for that. There is a damper at the stove which, as you said will help with the heat. I’ll have to run it a few times to dial it in. I appreciate your feedback/advice and your support! 😊

    Ummm... are you TRYING to burn your shop up? 😬 This seems scary. Unless I missed it., did you install a spark arrester? Are you sure the pipe is high enough above the roof to pull enough draft? An uninsulated pipe that close to your exterior wall and roof edge is just asking for a fire, don't ya think? That pipe wil get ridiculously hot. Idk. It just seems very unsafe to me. I really enjoy your channel and your dogged pursuit of a workable solution when you hit a snag. But, my friend, if my husband installed his stove like that in his shop, I think I'd be upping (1) homeowners insurance and (2) my husband's life insurance benefit. Be careful!

    Single wall pipe should never touch wood. And the pipe should be 2' above the peak. Will back puff, until it fully heats up. It's not the seal. It's a lack of draft with a cold pipe. But, I'm being picky now.

    • @HanbleceyaRanch

      I appreciate your feedback, great points. Fortunately the pipe doesn’t touch any wood. As for the pipe over the ridge, too many locals here to count have a similar layout (where I got the inspiration), so I’m confident in it. its very smart to have both a 10 pound ABC and a 5 pound ABC dry chemical fire extinguisher snything smaller than 5 pounds of agent is NOT enough for anything off grid. Check the guage every once in a while. Shows great thinking on your part

      Couldn’t agree more! We have a few more but they are u see the kitchen sink 😉 We send them off to get recharged every 2 yrs and we inspect them quite often. Can’t be too safe when it comes to this stuff. Thank you for the kind words and support! 😊

    So all these ads you see about free solar is obviously BS.

    • @HanbleceyaRanch
      @HanbleceyaRanch День назад

      @@johnlinehan9053 so I believe that most of those ads are referencing on grid systems, which are considerably different than an off grid system. And you are right, it’s not free, I believe they are being paid for through the return of power to the power companies. Now I could be wrong because I haven’t looked into that much but I believe that’s how it works. Thank you for the feedback. Hope you have a wonderful new year.😊

    Costs are a choice you've made with thought. New large vehicles, new tractor, new ATV, new snowblower, Rinnai , needed tools, and the solar tech ( Chinese sourced )all are part of your choices. Some choose to buy used. It is a basic marketing myth that used ain't worthy. We never even when in high tech bought new vehicles. Just another gestault.

      @@annaaron3510 We were very deliberate in our purchases, new and used. As for our solar, none of it is Chinese sourced (not that it should matter), our panels and charge controller were made in the USA, the Inverter/charger was made in France and the batteries in Canada. That said, you’re right about the myth of used equipment. In certain areas used can be just as good as new but in others not so much. I think the trick is knowing when to go with new vs used. Thank you for your feedback and support! 😊

      @@HanbleceyaRanch No solar panels, lithium batteries are "made" here....yet. Right now ALL solar panels and lithiums originate in China. Our loss. Some circuit boards, some, are made here but most out of Taiwan and China.

      @ Good thing we don’t have Lithium batteries 😉 Our Rolls FLA are made in Nova Scotia. Q Cell panels are made mainly in Georgia USA, though they do have factories in Malaysia and South Korea. Having said all that, I do understand what you were trying to say. 😊

      I never thought to weld the eyelets closed - brilliant! I’ve considered adding additional boards to the end of the plow but haven’t seen the need just yet…that’s not to say I won’t later. Thanks for the suggestions and support! 😊

      Care to elaborate? The alternative would be to do nothing and use snow machines or walk in deep snow to get to and from our home.

      @ Thanks for clarifying! 😊 It has made all the difference to us as it allows us to keep our road open during most storms. That said, it has a limitation and when we get big snow I’ll run the tractor with its snowblower. Have a great New Year!
