You are a wonderful storyteller! I’ve lived in New England my whole life. Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I’m in RI on 15 acres. We also have a Woodstove with lots of wood we take off our land. I grow a garden, knit, make candles. My husband is retired from the Navy. He was a nuclear engineer. Now, he has some fantastic stories about all the places he has been. I will continue to follow your wonderful channel. God Bless.
Thank you!😊 We too have a garden and I make the hand knitted chunky blankets! Our son is currently serving in the Marines! Please thank your husband for his service!🇺🇸 I bet he has some amazing stories to tell!! Thanks for the support! Take care and God bless!♥️
My mom is originally from Maine, she moved to the Detroit area in 1958 , i was raised in Detroit and never felt like i belonged here. My mom just recently passed away, and I really want to move to Maine where my mom grew up because no matter how long she lived here in Detroit Michigan she always talked about her home state of Maine but she never got the chance to move back. Now im thinking about moving there with my wife and kids to live a simpler life 😊
Making that decision is the first step in a long series of decisions that’ll get you to where you want to be… Best of luck on your journey! Thank you for the support! 😊
It may not be the first choice, nor the second, but it was the best choice. Welcome home! We are all neighbors here and help each other, ...at least for the most part LOL. I moved back about 5 years ago and have found peace here. Again, welcome home.
I just came across your videos tonight. I enjoyed the first two I watched, and I`ll check out some of the earlier ones. It looks like you`re in northern Maine. It`s beautiful country for sure. I envy you and your lifestyle there. I just retired last year and am working on convincing my wife to move from our home in Massachusetts to one of the northern New England states. Tell your son, Semper Fi, from an old Marine.
Thank you for your service!♥️💛♥️💛 So glad you found our channel!! We are in Northern Maine. Been here since 2021 full time. It is beautiful country and the people are amazing! Having a partner by your side on this crazy journey makes it much easier. Best wishes on finding your own slice of heaven. 😊
I too was looking at property in ME. at the time and I know where that property is located. You Sir, along with your family got a diamond in the rough for a very good price! Congratulations and you gained another follower!
My fiance and I are looking to do this very thing. Building it from the ground up. Having a good amount of acreage for farming, gardening, and animal rescuing those who can't take care of their dogs and cats. A sanctuary but small. Selling gardening veggies and fruits, selling wood that we harvest and will re plant. Engaging in conservation efforts. Living rhe simple life. Any recommendations. We've been up to Fort Kent to millinocket, Presque isle, brownville or greenville and the price range I keep finding is outrageous everywhere I would Luke to be. I've been up to Maine so many times. I don't want to be that implant as kids call it. I want to engage with the community eventually thriving and helping others like we used to do. Thanks for sharing your story and you really truly got an amazing place in maine. I hope to see you up there someday. You have a new follower. Thank you.
Well, welcome to Maine I been here 86 years and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I was a truck driver over the road and I couldn’t wait to get back home. I love it here I live in Turner Maine and good luck for everything you do God bless.
Welcome to Maine! My hubby and I were born and raised in NJ and he joined the Navy and his last duty he was stationed on a ship here in Maine. When he left the Navy after 12 yrs of service and traveling around we decided to stay and live here in Maine, that was 44 yrs ago. We are so glad we stayed and raised our children here. We had talked about living off the grid many times, but I was the one who always talked him out of it, always a city girl, but now that I am in my 70’s I wish we had given it a try.
Thank you so much!!😊 Please thank your husband for his service. Our son is currently serving, USMC. Maine is a beautiful state and a wonderful place to raise a family. I had stipulations on going offgrid. Mainly being able to still reach out to the kids and grandkids. Have a wonderful evening!♥️
@@HanbleceyaRanch I was glad to come across your channel and subscribed right away. Thank your son for his service and prayers to keep him safe. It will be fun keeping up with your channel to see your next projects. This year was sure a mild winter here in the Midcoast area where we live.
I worked with an older gentleman in the 90s in Georgia, he grew up in Maine. He said Maine is the coldest place he's ever been, and would never live there again. He only went back in summer to visit his family. Some are born that way, where our bodies can't adjust even if born there. I'm glad Maine worked out. It is a beautiful state.
Ya know, ironically where we’re from, Chicago, on average, is colder than where we are in Maine. Now the winters here are much longer but that’s ok. We do very much enjoy the winters. Thanks for sharing! 😊
I found my off grid cabin and I was so lucky it’s in the north Ga. Mountains close to Tennessee in the Appalachian mountains it was a turn key purchase and I love it that’s where I’m going to live when I retire in a few years
I find I have more in common with people in northern areas. Why did I choose Central U.P. of MI. Actually wanted Island property in great lakes. The amount of game on islands isn't a lot. I bought 10 acres in U.P. because it was cheap 1500$/acre and close enough to drive to in half a day. I hand dug my piers and foundations. Have built a skillion pavilion which will be a cottage once I get walls up. The 3 springs on my property pretty much sold me on it. Trying to build an Earth ship like Goldie and Matt's. 24x32 section at a time. No tires or berm. I do masonry work so using cmu with insulation and masonry veneer for my north wall. I used Land Watch too. I couldn't buy the property as fast as I wanted too. Took 3 weeks not 3 days. Spent a few years finding out what grows where on property. Getting certified organic this spring. Property is covered in berries and cherries. Organic wild berries and heirloom fruits. Property came with wild/feral friendly honey bees. Zebra stripes disorient biting flies. They do serve a purpose. Only 20 counties east of the Mississippi have less than 20k people. Most of them are in Maine or U.P. of MI. Maine has decent hunting laws too.
Sounds like you have an amazing plan!! Your property sounds amazing! It also sounds like you’re doing your homework on the property, that’s something to be proud of! 😊
Welcome! My husband is a native Mainer (I'm a first generation American; born in Louisiana, and lived in lots of places, including Canada). We love it here and are always happy to see folks willing to stay/move here and keep farming and homesteading. Too many of our farms have been lost, and too many folks choose to try their hand at homesteading in warmer climates. It takes a certain strength of character and fortitude to make a go of it in Maine, but it's absolutely worth it!
Hi! Thank you so much!! We absolutely love it here. The area is beautiful. The people are amazing. We have been blessed with the best neighbors you can find! This lifestyle is challenging and the winters here do make it a bit harder but it is so worth it!! Thanks for watching!!😊
5th generation Maine born and bred here. My Mom wanted my Dad to retire from the USAF when we were in Texas for his last assignment. He told her she could stay if she wanted, but he was coming home to Maine.
Welcome! My husband and I are born and raised Mainers. And we share your thoughts of the people and landscape. If you are good people, you will find other good people. And everywhere you go in Maine, you can find beautiful scenery. And farming/homesteading...although not easy, it is doable and a peaceful way to live in this state. Keep up the good work!
Hi. I've been in Montana for 39 years. It's the most expensive place to buy land, surpasses California now. My place of 11 acres just sold. I went to Alaska for a week this month. I was gonna buy a 4 acre place in Soldotna AK. It was 194.000.00. That place fell through. I'm in the process of buying a 71 acre place in Maine. It's a affordable place still. Alot less expensive than Alaska, extremely less expensive than Montana. I can't wait to start my life in maine.
@@ErickSchmidt-ej6rb Hi Eric 👋 It was refreshing to find a place we could call home that had everything we had hoped for in land, laws and opportunities yet was still affordable. We wish you the best on your purchase and move here to Maine! We know all too well how nerve racking a move like that can be. Best of luck and Welcome to Maine! 😊
My husband and I moved from Florida to northern Maine in April of this year. We bought two cabins on 54 acres. It has been a huge learning experience and since we're both in our late 40s, it has been some reality checks too. In our case, we're up in the mountain with 5 miles of dirt road to deal with anytime we need to go to town. Are there risks? Of course. Do the risks outweigh the rewards? Absolutely not. Obviously we know our bodies limits and we're moving slower then we would have in our 20s but we've never been as happy as we are now. I wish you both every success and happiness. ❤
I get it, I've been in Maine my whole life . I have a house on a lake, people are level headed. It's perfect. Every time I have to leave Maine, I can't wait to get home
Welcome to Maine! Native Mainers here, homesteading too! Black flies = screen porch or screen tent, outside fires keep them at bay as well… generate season is Mother’s Day to Father’s Day. Less lawn keeps mosquitoes at bay too…
My husband and I live in Maine. This year we will be building our off grid home. We have had to property for about 5 years now. We have been building and paying for it as we go. We are excited to be able to get out in our little slice of heaven. We are a mile and half off any maintained road. We already have the well and septic in. And have our flock of chickens. I am in my late 50s and my hubby is in his early 60s. People call us crazy, but we feel at home every tine we arrive at our property. It is like it is meant to be. We have followed your channel and look forward to many more of your adventures!. Thank you for taking us all along.
WOW, that sounds very similar to our beginning here at our home. I’m sure you’re both very excited. Best of luck with your cabin build, and thank you for your support and kind words! 😊
What a great video; I loved your story! My husband and I have started researching states for a good property for our family and Maine seems really outstanding and beautiful. I'll definitely be subscribing and watching your videos. 😊
Hi Jennifer! Thanks so much for the kind words and support. We really do appreciate it! Maine is a beautiful state. When we started looking it was not on our list but it turned out to have everything we were looking for! Have a great day!! 😊
We fell into our Maine homestead too!! We wanted to be in southern Maine, but when this opportunity arose, we couldn't say no! We moved up here 5 hours without even having seen the place in person, but knew the people...This is the dream! Can't wait to see more of your content as I learn and grow in my new dream life!
Hi Jessi! We are so happy to hear you found your dream spot and are enjoying your new life!! We always say that everything happens for a reason!! Best of luck!! 😊
@@HanbleceyaRanch thank you so much! I don't know if you've done a video on winters, but this will be my first Maine winter (we're UP HERE) and I'd love any tips!
Hi Jason n Jen, Wow what a wonderful story to tell!! Thank God Jen was a strong believer against Alaska 😳, but what would we do without dreams, I’m a big dreamer to Jason. Lol I do love Montana, it’s beautiful but I couldn’t live there UNLESS I hit lottery (I don’t play but if I did 😂) I think Maine is a perfect place for y’all. You’ve loved it enough to make it work and worth the move. Something that most people just dreams of. (🙋♀️ me) I’m like you, as bad as I hate winter I still like the 4 seasons. I’d never move to Florida for the warmth, no thx! But it’s beautiful to visit! With our beautiful country getting so corrupted, we all best know how to live off grid! And be ready! (My opinion) I really enjoyed your story, it lets us know you a tad better. Thanks for that Jason. Stay safe, warm and God Bless ❤
Hi Pam!👋 It is a pretty cool story! Alaska was not happening….don’t think we would have been happy there! Dreams keep us going, achieving and driving us!! ♥️ We would have loved to try this in Montana but we knew financially we couldn’t do it! Maine is the perfect place…everything happens for a reason!!😊 We joke about doing this for awhile and then getting a place in Florida for our senior years….i don’t see it happening. We are happy you enjoyed the story and feel like you know us a bit better (although I think you know us pretty well). Stay safe and God bless!♥️🙏♥️
Hi, just found your channel. I watch a lot of homesteaders in Alaska and Arkansas. Being a New Yorker it was nice to find a channel in the north east.I've been to Maine and it's very beautiful. Looking forward to watching you journey in homesteading.
excellent story and editing. We visited Maine for the first time this summer. beautiful area, not so sure we could handle the cold, especially when considering getting older. Political climate as a state could be concerning for some as well, wide range between rural and cities.
Sounds like you were on the right track, just the wrong M state! Born and raised in southern Maine for almost 40 years, unfortunately there's been a dip in the amount of snow weve been getting the last few years. At least where i am its been mostly rain instead of snow. I miss having those huge mounds of it.
Sorry for the late text my friends , but I wanted to let you know I have one of my bro's watching your videos now as well and yes he loves your little home stead , he loves the way you guys tied the two cabins into each other . That just what he want up in Maine a beautiful set up like you guys have and then he wants to move up as well and his girlfriend is 100% all in lol she wants to live up there with afew little gardens and some farm animals. And last we have been getting blasted with some bad hail over the last few hours and yes it's been bad. The news says it's working it's way through Massachusetts now.
Glad to hear your brother is enjoying our channel!! Sorry to hear about your weather! We have had several hours of steady rain so far. Should clear up tomorrow!🤞
I lived in Maine and miss it everyday! I now live in Washington State because my kids live here and I'm a widow I would still live in Maine if I were younger and not living alone ..👍
Completely understand that! The hardest part of this is being away from the kids and grandkids. If it was just me (Jen) I don’t think I could do this by myself. ♥️😊♥️
Its funny how you and your wife are just a few steps ahead of my wife and I on the journey to find a place to retire/homestead. Took the same trips to Montana/idaho and loved both places but with our minimum acre limite set to 50 as well and wanting to be distant from high population areas the price point for Land out there that still has some trees on it was just not worth it for us as mountains /lakes/streams are also a necessity. We are currently searching in the same areas of the NE and are plannign a trip to drive around Maine here in the coming months. Glad I found your channel and know your inspiring others to go ahead and make the leap. Sometimes you know your ready... but doing the same thing in the same place so long you get "comfortable" in a place thats uncomfortable and its hard to make the move.
During our journey we have met a lot of people that are wanting to do the exact same thing. It can be done! It’s not an easy lifestyle. We both work harder now then we ever have at any job we have been at. The upside…it’s the most rewarding!! We hope you find your little slice of heaven! The hardest part was having the land for over two years and not living there. We stuck to our plan and now we couldn’t be happier. It is difficult to take that leap of faith but having each other to lean on made it a little easier. Good luck to you and your wife! Follow your dreams!! We are very happy you found our channel. ♥️😊♥️
Hi! So happy you found us!! Maine is a beautiful state and all the people we have met are amazing!! We really appreciate your support! Have a great day!! 😊
Thanks for sharing your story Jason. Our stories are so similar, including my wife talking me out of Alaska, then knowing we found our match as soon as we set eyes on it! I'm so glad we ended up in northern Maine. And as you said, for a person from "away", the biggest shock to me was not the winters, it was the bugs. They're on a level I've not experienced anywhere else. Still, no regrets though. Excellent video and Semper Fi!
It always amazes me how many of us live parallel lives… it’s a beautiful thing… as for the bugs, I’ve seen some of the biggest spiders I’ve ever seen here in Maine, and let’s not talk about satans little helpers (black flies) 🤣 We’re a Blue Star Family, our youngest is an LC. Very proud USMC family here 🇺🇸 Thank you for the support! 😊
Maine is 1 of 3 states I’ve never been too. Always wanted to see it. I follow land watch a lot so I was wondering what kind of budget you would suggest to buy a startup homestead? Can $50 k get it done? I’ve seen really good deals out there. I’m a truck driver so I would want to be part time for a few years. I’m 45 and I really wanna retire at 55. I’m glad I found your channel. Thank u
Landwatch is a great resource for offgrid land. As far as a startup cost, there are too many variables that only you can decide on that I’m not sure I can answer that. However, hold my🍺, I’ll make a video on it… stay tuned… 😉
This video really connected with me! I also had visions of Montana but the budget and reality just made no sense to me. I recently started a deep study of Maine and in the process found your channel. I am certainly interested in the middle part of Maine and love where you landed. Loving your videos and excited to be in Maine (Fall 2025??)
Hi Jim! We are so glad you found our channel and are enjoying it. We are up around the Houlton area. Good luck in finding your slice of heaven here. If you have any questions feel free to email us!!
Jason, your story is so similar to my own, except mine took place in the 70's during the 'back to the land' movement....Mother Earth News was feeding our dreams. In fact, I still own the first 42 issues, and will always cherish them. It's funny what we choose to hang onto in life. Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. And welcome to Maine!
Hi Kathleen!👋 The 70’s were some good times! It is crazy the things we hold onto. Both of us have our memories boxes. Thanks for joining us on our journey in the beautiful state of Maine. Have a great night! 👍
I know how you feel. I arrived here in Limestone in 1976 for Loring. Did my Air Force career right here and never really left. And I’m here for my duration.
Hello buddy, I from N.Y.C but guess what I have a son and granddaughter that they live at Bangor maine and this christmas my family and I will be there for the holidays. I'm very glad for you and your family.
Thank you very much for telling the story! I often wondered "Why Maine?". I would be very bummed if I couldn't afford Montana but great things happen for a reason!
Honest account. Thx. Unlike many of the faux "preppers" with an ax to grind ( or Stihl ). Straight, well done, no politization or those paranoid conspiracy theories on the endings of the world. We're also in Maine heating 100% with 2 wood stoves BUTT not off grid. The firewood is self harvested from our 60a woodlot. Low tech with ATV, trailer, 3 chainsaws, splitter (electric now ). Some tough labor but enjoyable (most of the time ). Good luck.
Thank you for the kind words and support. 😊 Heating with wood and eventually harvesting our own firewood was quite a learning experience for us when we arrived in Maine. There is much to be said about the work that goes into harvesting one’s firewood. 😊
Amen brother, I am looking at my own 54 acres now. Not looking forward to the bugs, lol. I assume in fall and winter they are all gone, I hope. God bless!
I’ve enjoyed that last couple videos. Great story ! Proud to say I’m a Maineah ! My whole life and I’m 53. What general area are you and Jen in ? If you don’t want to give specifics I get it. lol. Spent my life in Augusta. We bought our camp near Kingfield 10 years ago. Sold the house and moved to camp last July. My mom grew up in Mt. Chase shin pond area and we go there often as we still have family there. And hey …. Welcome to the Great state of Maine ! Take care guys
Born and raised in Maine. First job took me to Dallas for 12 years then Connecticut for 4. Decided in 1995 to get off the corporate hamster wheel and move back to Maine with my family. Ten years ago sold the lake property with neighbors every 200 feet for acres in the western mountains. Took a short lived consulting job in Houston a while back but back to the Maine woods when it was over. Now 66 and still in the Maine woods. Used to tell people in Maine it always snowed and when not snowing it rained to discourage them but that doesn’t work anymore. We were the best kept secret but not anymore.
Truth be told, we never considered Maine when we started talking about where to retire to. Wasn’t in our purview at all….We’ve now been here almost 3 yrs and there’s no place we’d rather be. When folks talk about taking a vacation I tell them I’ve been on one for almost 3 yrs 😊
Oh, my! Thank you. I too, make those hand knit chunky blankets! Prayers for your son to keep him safe. There is an author; Louise Dickinson Rich who wrote books about her life in Maine. The first one is called, “We Took to the Woods.” She and her husband made a life in the Rangeley area in the settlement of Middle Dam. I believe you and your husband would enjoy them. They are wonderful.
Hello Jason & Jen from our working farm in Central ⛵ Lakes Region New Hampshire. You have made a good choice. Not sure how close to the Canadian border you are. Maine can be very rural. So far property prices are better in the outskirts of Maine than New Hampshire. We live the 1940s lifestyle of our parents and grandparents on 350 acres. Grass fed beef/commercial hay and logging. That said we are 3rd generation. We do take advantage of the best of 2024, but heat with wood and can be off grid if necessary. Our kitchen wood stove is vintage 1930, with propane back up. Some of our tractors and farm equipment belonged to my father-in-law. There is a 1940 panel truck sitting in the hay barn. We could not be happier. Our town is small and down home Americania. I would recommend Maine for anyone serious about getting back to the land. ~ Diane
Hey buddy, hope your journey is well. From MA been in CA for almost 3 years, mis family and friends within a driving range. Anychance you could share the realtor? Will be home in august if willing to share id love to visit and buy yall beers and or food if ya dont drink.
I also looked at Alaska and North west Montana. Have a brother on Kodiak island but their heating cost there is super high. Looking for property with trees and a stream and this is why I have been looking at Maine. Want out of town but close enough for groceries and medical. Use to live in Truckee California so snow is no problem. The only thing that might be a problem is bugs. Getting my house ready to sell now. Really enjoy your video. Do you have any problems besides bugs
Hi 👋 The bugs can be a bit rough for a couple months but that’s it, just a couple months… small price to pay for all Maine has to offer. They can be mitigated with a few techniques 😉 Other than that, we have mud season…which can be a bit messy and the occasional Nor’Easter during the winter. Best of luck on your search!! Feel free to reach out via email should you want to talk a bit more in depth. 😊
Thanks for the comment! The company I worked for was implementing a new ERP system in their 11 US factories. I led a team of system integrators in training and launching this system in each factory. We had a factory in Middletown where I spent 2 weeks. Hope that helps! 😊
What county’s did you guys look in my family’s from there but zoning and regulations scare me i want to live off of the grid but permits and zoning scare me
@@HanbleceyaRanch That's perfect then. We could see it from the property if we could get up 150' or so. There are a couple of places close by on high ground with no obstructions that give good views.
I spent 30+ years in retail and the hubby was an electrical engineer. We didn’t have the big house or new cars every few years. We saved and planned. Thank you!😊
I recently moved to Wyoming, but I am discovering that there are some significant issues with the idea of homesteading. Land is now quite expensive due to the pandemic as well as an influx of West coast people escaping the social problems. Water is a gigantic issue. A two hundred foot well can cost you 40,000 dollars. I asked one of my fellow instructors who has a lot of oilfield experience why it is so expensive to have a well. He said due to geology there are multiple layers of rock that cause drilling to be extremely expensive. Many people opt for a water cistern and have water delivered to them. This is not truly off grid nor independent since you need a delivery man. Most of New England is not too expensive to have a well and in many places you can have a shallow point driven well. Having grown up in New England I know the region and I can see myself moving back and most likely in the Pine Tree State.
Hi! Since we bought our property in 2019 everything has gone up. Land around this area does not stay on the market long because people are wanting to get away. Our water table is extremely high in our area so we plan on putting in some shallow wells when we get our animals. We had never been to Maine before we came to look at the property. Both of us fell in love with the area and the people here are amazing!! 😊
I’m in Connecticut and love what you got going on …Look forward to your channel growing and seeing what you have planned. Keep uploading regularly and you will do great you are a hit already
Taxes can be cheap or expensive. That depends on what area you're in. If you get in to an unorganized territory, you can have lots of land and cheap taxes. If you get in to a town, you get a plop and pay a lot. If you get in to a city like Bangor, Lewiston, etc then you'll really pay. In an unorganized territory for more than 50 acres with a building, I pay $310.
welcome to maine the state would be a lot nicer place if we could the southern third back to mass lol from another maine person im just a little north of bangor small town of hudson only 1 store in town but sells about anything from hardware to pizzas to ammo and lots of booze lol
Nice video. We ended up in Oregon. I'm originally from RI. Joined the USMC straight from HS. Last station was southern CA. After MC I moved to OR and met my wife. During the recession we moved back to RI after 20+ yrs in OR. Had the opportunity, story pretty much parallels yourself. Found land such as yourself. We never visited the land before purchasing. Sold everything and drove 3100 miles. We wanted to be in the Mts, grow our food, hunt, fish and be independent. Would never change it. We have 40 acres surrounded by BLM & National Forest. Presently building our home.

Well, welcome to Maine I been here 86 years and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I was a truck driver over the road and I couldn’t wait to get back home. I love it here I live in Turner Maine and good luck for everything you do God bless.
Thanks! We are so happy here!! It is the way life should be!!😊
Welcome to Maine!
I made the rice meal and added a can of chicken and wow it got gone quickly it was very delicious Thanks ! Eric .
Mountains close to Tennessee in the Appalachian mountains it was a turn key purchase and I love it that’s where I’m going to live when I retire in a few years
Happy to hear you found your forever home!! Congrats! 😊
This is the first time I’ve seen one of your videos and I love your storytelling and video editing! Definitely going to subscribe!
We are so happy you found us! Thank you for the kind words and support! 😊
We are 1st generation from away!😉 Sounds like dad was dead set on coming home to Maine! 😊 Please thank him for his service!🇺🇸
@@HanbleceyaRanch Thank you. He was a vet from WW2 and then did 20 years in the Air Force. I miss him every day.
So sorry for your loss. Our son is currently serving USMC. ♥️🇺🇸♥️
Thank you so much for your kind words! We truly appreciate them!♥️
@@HanbleceyaRanch thank you
My husband and I moved from Florida to northern Maine in April of this year.
Sounds so much like our story. We are happy to hear you found your piece of paradise here in Maine! It is a beautiful state!! Best of luck! ♥️
I get it, I've been in Maine my whole life . I have a house on a lake, people are level headed. It's perfect. Every time I have to leave Maine, I can't wait to get home
We’ve gone back to Chicago a handful of times and we can’t wait to get back… It’s the way life should be… 😊
thats why my wife and i only leave to go to the nascar race in nh 1 week in the summer thats a 212 mile trip so never to far from home
♥️
Welcome to Maine! Native Mainers here, homesteading too! Black flies = screen porch or screen tent, outside fires keep them at bay as well… generate season is Mother’s Day to Father’s Day. Less lawn keeps mosquitoes at bay too…
Thank you! 😊 We have been learning a little more each year we are here about the lovely bug seasons!! 😉
We didn’t learn about black flies until we got here, living in tents for 4 months! They’re something else!!!

Hi Jason n Jen,
Wow what a wonderful story to tell!! Thank God Jen
was a strong believer against Alaska 😳, but what would
we do without dreams, I’m a big dreamer to Jason. Lol
I do love Montana, it’s beautiful but I couldn’t live there
UNLESS I hit lottery (I don’t play but if I did 😂) I think
Maine is a perfect place for y’all. You’ve loved it enough
to make it work and worth the move. Something that
most people just dreams of. (🙋♀️ me) I’m like you, as bad
as I hate winter I still like the 4 seasons. I’d never move
to Florida for the warmth, no thx! But it’s beautiful to visit!
With our beautiful country getting so corrupted, we all
best know how to live off grid! And be ready! (My opinion)
I really enjoyed your story, it lets us know you a tad better.
Hi Marie!👋 So glad you found our channel! Maine is a beautiful state and we are happy to be here! Hope you enjoy our journey as much as we are!!😊
excellent story and editing. We visited Maine for the first time this summer. beautiful area, not so sure we could handle the cold, especially when considering getting older. Political climate as a state could be concerning for some as well, wide range between rural and cities.
Thank you for the kind words and support! Coming from IL, we are blessed to have found a pathway to Maine. 😊
Sounds like you were on the right track, just the wrong M state! Born and raised in southern Maine for almost 40 years, unfortunately there's been a dip in the amount of snow weve been getting the last few years. At least where i am its been mostly rain instead of snow. I miss having those huge mounds of it.
We love Maine!! Glad we chose it! We have heard that about the snow. Our first year here there was quite a bit but last year was not much at all!!

Thank you Dennis 😊
yeah I can see why you like Maine. Nice honest video.
Thanks!👍 We are happy we chose Maine!
We had a very similar experience and process, ending up moving here to Maine! 😅
Maine is a beautiful state. We have really enjoyed our journey getting to where we are today!! Best of luck on your adventure!👍

It always amazes me how many of us live parallel lives… it’s a beautiful thing… as for the bugs, I’ve seen some of the biggest spiders I’ve ever seen here in Maine, and let’s not talk about satans little helpers (black flies) 🤣

Thank you very much for telling the story! I often wondered "Why Maine?". I would be very bummed if I couldn't afford Montana but great things happen for a reason!
We always say “everything happens for a reason”. Apparently Montana wasn’t right for us. We couldn’t be happier than we are in Maine!!😊
God bless!
Despite the bugs being terrible, they’re only here for a few months… so it’s not too bad 👍 Best of luck to you with your 54! 😊

Thank you! We will definitely be looking into those books. We do a lot of reading on those cold night!!😊

~ Diane

Hi, 👋 send us an email at hanbleceyaranch@gmail.com
They can be mitigated with a few techniques 😉
Other than that, we have mud season…which can be a bit messy and the occasional Nor’Easter during the winter. Best of luck on your search!! Feel free to reach out via email should you want to talk a bit more in depth. 😊
Please do a video about those famous ' bugs" I am guessing the black fly. How serious are and for how long is the season?. Thanks
We will put something out about them in late May early June. That’s when they are out in droves!!😉

5 grand an acre in Montana was too much?
Definitely!! Our property would have been over $250,000 if we paid 5,000 an acre!!!
Maybe Santa can bring you a trailer to haul your wood :)
We have one but it needs some work done to it this summer!!😊
Edibles or flower?
🤣 Neither 👍
Thank you so much for the support and kind words!!😊
You were from Chicago? Why not the UP or lower Michigan or Minnesota? I hear Wisconsin is restrictive. Aren't Maine taxes high?
Born and raised!! One of our requirements were mountains… the Midwest have none. Taxes are not bad at all.
Thank you! We love it here!!😊
How about we give the southern coastal region back to Mass and leave the rest southern Maine.

@@TomTammyOffGridHomestead Sounds amazing! We considered Oregon at one point but I just couldn’t get myself to move to the west coast. That said, it sounds like you’re living your best life too! The Marine in our family is our son. We are a Very proud Blue Star Family 😊
