    Great video, brings back alot of good memories. I was raised on a mink ranch and my brother and I did alot of trapping in Wisconsin. Nice to see the next generation on the hunt. If you have any kids yet show them
    the tricks of the trade if you can.

    First year trapping I had the same thing happen with a beaver. Went and set it over a bank den and had one swim right into it.
    Was absolutely insane.

    Hy, I live in Quebec province and I see beaver holes on the ice on the ponds in the area. Can you confirm to me that they maintain these holes by crunching the ice with their teeths. If so, I am impressed. You see and live the real life, good luck.

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  4 года назад

      They do not crunch the ice with their teeth. They use their body to break the ice open. Thank you for watching!

    In Maine, Mud on the bank with sticks counts as a lodge. In northern Maine we can trap like you do. In southern Maine we have to stay 5 feet from a damn and 10 feet from where a lodge meets the water.

    Great Video! You are lucky to have a buyer that is willing to take your beaver in the round in this market. I have been watching your videos for some time and have to ask how can you get away with using those wrist length gloves? I would have filled them with water on the first check!

    I am a new trapper. What would be a key thing to look for in beaver trapping? Is 330 or 220 a better trap or a foot hold ? Thanks for another great video keep them coming !

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  8 лет назад

      honestly rodney 330 is the best conibear there is for beaver. I know some people have used 220s but they are to small for beaver. You might catch a few but you will educate more than you catch and it will be nearly impossible to get a 60+ pound beaver in one. Footholds are also a great trap for beaver. I recommend a #4 or TS 85 or a MB 750. each trap has its situation but I mostly use conibears or snares.

    Love watching your videos. Got a question for you. How do know how many beaver are in a house or pond. Also, have you ever tried a bait set for otter? I heard of putting a fish on the triggers? Anyway, keep the videos coming. I use your techniques a lot. Talk later eh....

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  8 лет назад

      +Dave Hendrick I can have a pretty good idea by looking at the size of the feed pile, Lodge, and amount of cutting the did. Also the height in which they cut the tress off at. I have heard of trying the baited otter set before myself but I've never tried it. I would give it a try sometime. Thanks for watching!

    Any reason you do that? What do you do with them, just wondering? In a sense they destroy the lake. Do you consider them pests?

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  8 лет назад

      I do sell them for the pelts. They are considered a nuisance because they overpopulate and cut down all the vegetation other critters in the pond feed on. They also get a horrible disease when to many are in a pond and can transfer that disease through an open wound just by placing your hand in the pond water. I took 65 of the little biggest out of this small pond alone. The disease is called "tularhemia" not sure on the spelling but you can Google it and check it out. Thanks for watching!

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  8 лет назад

      +330 MaNiaC oh gosh sorry I thought this was the muskrat video lol. But this also applies to beaver except generally you will have 5 to 8 Beaver per pond and they are more destructive. Flooding Farm land and cutting dozens of trees down.

    • @TemplesLongtailsandFurs
      @TemplesLongtailsandFurs 8 лет назад +1

      Sorry! I meant go in the water over your waders, or even over your head! Many beaver ponds here seem bottomless. I know there is a bottom, I'm just not willing to search too hard for it.

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  8 лет назад

      When I'm checking for beaver runs an use an ice chisel to locate them. Them when I do I will use the chisel to determine the depth to find out if the are deep or shallow.
