Ryan's favorite role to play is the quiet, depressed, loner. if you like this type of character, i'd recommend movies like a Place Beyond The Pines, Stay, Blade Runner 2049, Lars and The Real Girl, Half Nelson.
The one thing in this film that catches anyone off guard is the violence. You know it's coming, but not how brutal and bloody it's going to be. This movie makes graphic violence look gorgeous. Gosling was made for this role. And Albert Brooks was a surprisingly menacing bad guy, especially for being a comedian
Your uploads have become like good comfort food for me. I've seen the movies you're watching, I know what to expect from you and that's truly a nice feeling. Also, Drive was a great movie. Hope you keep this channel going for a very long time
I love watching Albert Brooks who normally acts in romantic comedies, and some people refer to him as the west coast Woody Allen, play a badass gangster in this. He really pulls it off well:)
Yeah this is an awesome movie, it's really simple but also really complex, the driver hardly opens his mouth but he says so much. I don't think I've ever seen another movie like it, at least not one that was memorable, but I recommend this to everyone.
@@RhetoricalThrill it's usually never my thing either, but normally it's done just for the sake of it to show everyone how wonderfully creative they are, at least imo. But this has a grungy dark subtle and kinda sweet undertone that matches his character, and then it jumps up and smacks you right in your face, but only when it has to, also just like his character lol. Idk maybe this is what Artsy looks like when it's done well.
Outstanding reaction and commentary! I thoroughly enjoyed rewatching with you! And totally agree with you that it could have gone south with a different actor in the lead role.
Probably the tamest of Nicholas Winding Refn's films 😅 Try Only God Forgives (also with the baby goose) for a twisted bloody journey into man's darkness.
If you want to see another more quiet and serious role with Ryan definitely check out Blade Runner 2049, but that is a sequel so you might want to check out Blade Runner the Final Cut first
Or the spiritual sequel to this movie, Only God Forgives. Mr Gosling is even given a name.... I call it it's spiritual sequel as the main is very similar in the way he is. Kinda imagined it as Driver leaving the US after the credits.
He has one of the most diverse movie catalogues in Hollywood. He got the Kirk Douglas Award this year and his 3rd Best Actor nomination. Here is the montage for the Kirk Douglas. ruclips.net/video/S-r4MD5Cxws/видео.html Some of his movies are not in this montage, like his first one where he was a Jewish Nazi, "The Believer" he was the last to audition and was 19. The director said they new very fast that they had a real actor and no one knew about him. In this you see him talk about while doing "United States of Leland". He looks so different in roles, especially the earlier ones. ruclips.net/video/AyWPzzevZo4/видео.html
In the right movie, I don't have a problem with gore. But, I think the gore actually hurt Drive from being a REALLY great movie for me. Maybe it's because seeing Christina Hendricks' head getting blown up doesn't do it for me. I prefer her to be intact.
I can see that. I think it’s meant to be shocking because up to that point the only violence we get is Standard’s beating, and that still happens offscreen. But you definitely risk alienating audiences with that kind of thing.
I seem to recall a short lived TV series called Drive. I don't remember if it was connected to this film or not, but I think it starred Nathan Fillion, who starred in Firefly. Which woukd be a great series for you to do reactions to if interested. 😃
Barbie was my first Gosling movie and now I have seen them all. Lars and the Real Girl is a good one. Gosling compares it to the children's story, "The Velveteen Rabbit" where the rabbit comes alive because of the love of the boy. He says in the movie the boy comes alive because of the love of the town and the doll. They call it a comedy, but it is really a very sweet movie about a guy with challenges and it is not a sexual thing. The scene where he gives his coworker's teddy bear CPR was adlibbed and also the scene where he is finally going to a party. ruclips.net/video/XNcs9DrKYRU/видео.html

Since he has kids he doesn't do the dark stuff anymore.
10:19 Ryan Gosling rocking the full "Canadian Tuxedo." All denim.

I’m so glad I can be that for you, it’s what I love about this job! you keep watching and I’ll keep making 😊
Gosling does dramatic roles pretty well. The place between or beyond the pines is another good tole for him
Yeah, he kind of started in more serious roles, it’s just funny to me that I know him best from comedy 😂
"I can't tell if this is supposed to be sexual tension or just pure awkwardness."
It can be two things! :)
Haha true
Only saw this one a few times but happiily enjoyed this rewatch with you
Driver makes less per job than Gosling makes per movie hehe.
💯

He did fantastic! He has a real presence to him here
A real human bean!
Movies like this one were very hard on him and his doctor suggested comedy because each one tore is stomach up because he gets so deep in character.

Parts of it felt very “artsy” which is usually a turnoff for me, but this one kept me invested even during the quiet parts

Love her off handed comments, just blurted out.
😂
The secret ingredient is ADHD 😂
This is how I pickup women. I stare at them in silence and hope they like me and will make the first physical move.
How is that working out lol
The director came up with the bloody crap in the elevator on the spot.
Outstanding reaction and commentary! I thoroughly enjoyed rewatching with you! And totally agree with you that it could have gone south with a different actor in the lead role.
Thank you so much!
One of my favorite films!
It’s amazing how they combined action and artistry, I can see why!
If you liked this movie you need to add Baby Driver to your watch list. Both are similar.
Happy Monday Enjoy your day, Nice Reaction Sweetheart ❤,See You at The Next One
Probably the tamest of Nicholas Winding Refn's films 😅

I hadn’t heard of him before, so thank you
@@RhetoricalThrill he's very avant-garde and often disturbing. I still haven't gotten around to Neon Demon 😅
Please react to The Driver (1978). It's a very stylish film. It has the greatest car chase and an iconic car park scene.
If you want to see another more quiet and serious role with Ryan definitely check out Blade Runner 2049, but that is a sequel so you might want to check out Blade Runner the Final Cut first

Now you got to see the movie Baby Driver to see who you think is better.
Hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
I am thank you!
you are the best reactor
Thank you 🥹

The mask is a Tom Cruise mask, I believe.
