Thank you for bringing up the SpaceX catch ❤ it WAS so awesome. Many of us tech nerds/Elon fan-boys/girls out here are also libertarians and love your guys’ podcast.
The problem with the opening speech, is that Trump has promised to reduce government, which should be welcome news to this station. If extreme enough, and i agree not likely, then obviously, you do not need as much tax revenue.
If you tax tips and then, at the end of the year, return those taxes to servers who don't make enough money...isn't the net result the same as not taking it in the first place? Except, of course, for the 13 months of overdraft fees and interest on credit cards the servers use to get by while the government holds their money.
Executive agencies are wonderful, and we should have more of them which employ far more people. They are absolutely money makers, add to the productivity of the country, and completely constitutionally authorized. I believe the opposite of that, but every time I post it, the comment is deleted.
SpaceX good... cutting taxes good, though cutting spending is soooo much better. My kids don't like the Breakfast Club either. But they do, rightly, like Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. (My favorite movie of the time was 3 O Clock High.)
The difference with property taxes is that while it's true you're taxation goes up with your evaluation, it's actually distributed across everybody in the same tax town. That is to say everybody's valuation goes up at some level, so your taxes don't actually go up disproportionately to anybody else's if their values have gone up similarly, in fact it goes up with the rate of spending in the town really. If Town spending stays the same and your value goes up 2x, then your tax rate will go down by 1/2... So your final tax bill will be the same.
That is not true because while you're assessed value of the house goes up, the overall tax rate will go down by the total assessed value across the town going up. (The DRA calculates the tax rate every year) Your taxes will be exactly the same. @@Watcher4187
Managing Money is different from accumulating wealth, and the lack of investment education in schools may explain why people struggle to maintain their financial gains. The examples you provided are relevant, and I personally benefited from the market crisis, as I embrace challenging times, while orders tend to avoid them. Well, at least my advisor does too.
I don’t think i need a finance advisor. I can manage my own finances and investments. I don’t want to pay someone to tell me what to do with my hard earned cash
I agree with you.A finance advisor can also provide you with objective and unbiased advice, especially when you are facing emotional or stressful situations. They can help you stay on track and avoid making an impulsive decisions that can harm your financial future

Oh Katherine, my fellow science loving anarchist, the Baroque Cycle was excellent. Yes, they are long, but I felt that much detail was needed to fully immerse the reader in the world he was building. Perhaps I'm more boring and pedantic than I'm given credit for, but I strongly recommend you go back and finish it. And keep up the good work at Reason. My favorite magazine next to Astronomy. :-)
Property taxes are nowhere near what properties are worth for example I'm looking at buying a farm in upstate New York It's property tax value is $140,000 because the guy is old and it's a farm he only pays property tax on $60,000 He's selling it for $850,000 where I am property taxes are about 25 to 30% of the current fair market value This is a pretty poor area so they get a huge backlash whenever they raise them. But when the people want to sell the property suddenly it's worth 3 to 5X what they claim it's worth on their property tax I think that's complete nonsense If you want to sell your property $850,000 you should pay property tax on that or at least something sort of close to it not 12 times less. Just another baby boomer thing to screw over younger generations.
Great stuff in today's Roundtable. But taxation isn't theft--it's extortion! ;-) Seriously, though, no tax policy occurs in a vacuum, so yes, of course we need to consider government spending in relation to tax revenues. And besides the obvious point that 'taxing the rich' is already being done, and raising those taxes will simply drive more of them out of the U.S., there's also the point that nobody seems to understand about corporate taxation. Businesses get their money largely from their customers and clients. So any business tax, corporate or otherwise, is ultimately a tax on consumers, whether you make $400, 000 a year or $40,000 a year. Disclosing your vote can be tricky for media outlets. It doesn't seem to cause any real problems at Reason, but I can imagine it could have serious consequences at the Washington Post or New York Times. I don't work for any such media outlets, so as long as he's on my ballot, I'm voting for Oliver Chase. And he must be, because I'm still a registered Libertarian in my state, and haven't been automatically changed back to a registered Independent.
"Keep the government out of my social security"
And they have no idea the irony of the statement.
Rockets! Count me in too Katherine!
It's a pity, that both Trump & Harris won't both lose and lose big.
“An infinite fractal regress toward stupidity” as a description of our government is really incredible @20:50 lol
Wahhh...Trump called out CBS for moving an answer from one question to a different question, thats totally normal

SpaceX is a fascist corporation. Seriously, look into its finances. It's nearly as bad as NASA itself.
We've entered the era of reusable rockets.
There needs to be a Reason mobile app

How can you dislike the Princess Bride?!?!
Catherine: you must finish the Baroque Cycle! It is one of the best pieces of literature ever!

ROCKETS! SQUIRREL!
Cutting taxes on things people care about sounds like the right kind of pandering to me

"If Town spending stays the same..."
Spoiler alert, it's going to go up as government gets more revenue.

I googled the woman you mentioned, I am impressed with her credentials, her expertise seems solid, and I have sent a mail through to her
The one tax benefit in California is Prop 13 and property taxes
Keep taxes low? Inflation? Anyone????

Took me a while to finish, but I agree, I loved it. Also, had to look up things like the siege of Vienna...
Matt Welch doesn't like The Princess Bride? Unsubbed. :P
The Libertarian Party had the opportunity to put one of their own on Trump's cabinet, and they declined.

Do want a few tariffs and limits to immigration or full blown Marxism. You make the call.
Do want a few taxes and abortion protections or full blown fascism. You make the call.
Nick, you are appearing smarmier than ever. Yawning. Looked like you were filing your nails during the exciting rocket talk.
