    I sat in an aeron classic, gesture and leap V2 and the aeron was the most immediately comfortable chair for me by far. that's just me though. I would strongly recommend going to high end pre-owned chair outlets and seeing if you can sit in these chairs before investing in one.
    what really makes the aeron stand out for me is the mesh cushion. it is so light and breathable. and when I stood up after sitting in the aeron my back literally felt better than before sitting in it. that is the best possible result for a chair - feeling better after sitting in it than before. but you will pay a premium.

    I've had my Aeron for ~ 20 years now and have replaced almost every part in it over time from standard wear and tear. I wanted to offer a little insight into why I think the foam may have been removed from the front. About every 7-8 years I have to replace the seat pan because that foam breaks down and starts disintegrating making a constant mess falling on the floor, and it no longer performs its job. It looks like the redesign more than corrects this issue. I wonder if I can bolt the new pan onto the old frame, franken-chair, best of both worlds.... We shall see.

    I fall more into the B size category, but I found the C size helped a lot with easing the frame pressure on the thighs. B is a much tighter fit overall and probably better for shorter sessions, but I find C just perfect for heavy use(12h+). When I first saw the Aeron I never thought I'd actually buy one but it truly is a great chair, especially when combined with an Atlas headrest.
    Anyway thanks for the great videos BTOD 👍 A great production overall, but I want to give a quick shout-out to Ryan, I think he does a terrific presenter job. Your resources helped me settle on a used classic C-size Aeron as a starter. Should serve me a few more years. If HM releases a Cosm with at least a tilt-lock function, I may be interested in an upgrade 😁

      @@Pens4Life85 There are many comparison charts out there with actual numbers (e.g on the BTOD Aeron review blog post), but C is a bit wider which allows different seating positions without feeling too much pressure from the frame. More space in all directions from the C size provides more flexibility, like for example when putting a thin blanket on the seat (as mesh will not provide the warmest seating experience). The same blanket on a B size would be even tighter and sacrifice comfort.
      I'm using the classic Aeron for over a year, 12+ hours a day now and am still as satisfied as I was on the first day. It's all personal preference though, so I recommend testing the chairs side-by-side to feel the difference. Had I bought one without testing, I would have probably gotten the B and would never have considered the C as no guide put me into that category.

    I know chair size is the biggest question people have as it can be a struggle to find a HM dealer to test out before purchasing. I am 6' and approx 175lbs and am not a "big" guy whatsoever, more on the lanky side of the spectrum. The size C chair fits me great. Based on the size chart from HM I fall more on the B size than C but I've tested both sizes out and the C is a much better fit. I still recommend you go and test out a chair before purchasing, but if you can't and you fall in between the B and C size, the size C MIGHT be the better option.

      there is no difference in the seat pan, back or design as far as "comfort" goes. the old chair vs the new chair sits the same. the main difference in the remastered version is; the pellicle mesh is a tighter weave. they claim it will reduce the mesh from shaving your clothes off. yes they did that. also to note, the chair is much more plastic and metal components were removed/swapped for plastic. the lumbar was changed slightly, the arms changed slightly. the price changed greatly. i repair these and buy them and work for a herman miller dealer.

    • @btodtv
      @btodtv  2 года назад +2

      There is certainly a difference in comfort due to the design change in the seat. The remastered did away with the front seat pad which many people find to be uncomfortable. They changed the angle at which the seat sits so that the remastered is easier to use in forward positions and they also changed the tilt to allow you to sit upright and not at a forced recline like the Classic. -RB

    Herman miller really missed out important points why people loved about the classic model
    1) Remastered only have 3 recline levels , Classic have 8 levels infinite tilt lock
    2) Remastered cannot reduce to very low level like the classic which is basically very close to the floor
    3) Remastered sliding depth armrest pads are useless , there's no point sliding them in and out
    4) Remastered mesh material is not as comfortable as the classic mesh , which is soft and smooth.
    5) Remastered base is plastic material, Classic was solid aluminium
    6) Remastered lumbar support is nice but totally useless , Classic's lumbar pad you can switch sides , elevate to the needs of individual.
    Why i know, bcos i owned both. and i sold the remastered

    • @btodtv
      @btodtv  4 года назад +17

      Thanks for the feedback Ky! People definitely have their opinions on which Aeron version they like best but some of the things in your list I am going to have to disagree with. The Remastered has a larger seat height range than the Classic. It goes both higher and lower than the Classic. I think that most people would agree that more adjustable arms are better than less adjustable. I personally really like the depth adjustment because it allows me to get my chair closer to my keyboard. The mesh is the Pellicle mesh on both chairs. The way that the mesh is stretched is different but the softness and smoothness should be the same. I have not had a chance to use the new height adjustment system for the lumbar but I can say that the PostureFit SL on the Remastered is an upgrade to the old system so I think Herman Miller did a nice job there.
      The biggest difference to me is the way the chairs feel when you recline. Did you notice this difference? -RB

    The Classic is generally best IMO. Better adjustment options… better lumbar support options… everything else is roughly the same… however it does take a lot of effort to adjust the tension on the classic but that also speaks to how adjustable it actually is.

    • @btodtv
      @btodtv  3 года назад +1

      The Classics tension isn’t more difficult to adjust because it is more adjustable. It is just an inferior system to the remastered, which is why it is more difficult to use. The remastered does the same task much more efficiently. -RB

    I have a Classic and a Remastered, actually, and I prefer the approach of the Classic with reclining.
    For background, I keep my Classic at the desk with my desktop where I spend most of my time, work, play games, video call, watch all my shows, and use all of it's many of the chairs features on daily basis, and the Remastered at the office desk where I tend to go with a laptop to eliminate distractions when I need to focus on writing something for work, where I keep the chair in the forward locked position (which is way better on that one, you're right about the cushion thing).
    You probably can see it coming, but not having the infinite lock really is a deal breaker for a chair I do that much stuff in. It's not just that either, this is probably more surprising, but I prefer the unbalanced lean. I don't think it was a design accident. If I'm letting it recline, why shouldn't it? Since I can lock it in any position, it reclines me, and it reclines to where I want it. Working the controls of this chair are like second nature to me now, too.
    Just balancing in place in a specific reclined position, it's fine, but it makes me feel restless. I need to feel more secure than that, for me it's more comfortable to be sitting on restricted (but not really, you can just turn them off and on again to readjust), locked, chair. The more I type it the more it sounds very particular to me, but, well I know lots of people like to tuck the blankets under their legs, right? It's similar to that. Preferring to have a physical limitation over freedom of movement gives more comfort sometimes. I'm a pretty restless guy, I got ADD too.
    One last thing though. I understand that the balanced/unbalanced lean is probably pretty subjective, but one thing I don't understand and seems like a pretty unambiguous downgrade is the locking positions. I think they thought because they have the balanced lean they don't need it, but I disagree. Who cares if it's an extra cost. It's a flagship chair.

      Heh. Yeah. That crease up front is a leg number. I use a throw blanket on my seat which solved it. Also saves my pants from pellicle abrasion since I shift around a lot. Definitely prefer the floaty / locked feel of the classic especially when reading or simply relaxing. The new one feels more like a regular chair and doesn't feel like a cross between a task chair and a comfort chair like the classic does.

    Can the chair rock in the forward tilt position? I like the forward tilt but I want to be able to rock as well.

    • @brianwitter3271
      @brianwitter3271 4 года назад

      Yes, it is actually easier to rock in the forward tilt position. When in the standard position it kinda wants to stay there. Leaning back takes no effort, unlike the classic sitting up straight also takes no effort.

  • @brianwitter3271
    @brianwitter3271 4 года назад +10

    Fantastic comparison, very complete. I have both, replaced my classic with the remastered after 15 years of all day every day use. I was initially disappointed with the more limited tilt lock. With the slight tilt forward standard position, the much more responsive tension adjustment, and the new pivot, I find it no problem to stay at any tilt I want. We still use the classic in other rooms, but for long hours working at the computer, the remastered is a huge improvement.

      The seat mesh is a bit stretched and the pad has started to fall apart. Still more comfortable than any "affordable" chair I've tried.

    • @EldritchAugur
      @EldritchAugur 4 года назад +1

      What do you think about the remastered mesh vs the classic? I've heard some people complain that the remastered isn't as comfortable and my guess is that this could be attributed to the mesh on classics being more broken in. But I'd be curious to hear what you have to say since you've had experience with both?

    • @brianwitter3271
      @brianwitter3271 4 года назад +1

      @@EldritchAugur Hard to say since as I said the seat mesh is pretty stretched out on the classic and has been for a few years. Going from memory, the new mesh probably feels a little more firm. Still comfortable long term. All the other improvements combined certainly far outweigh the differences in the mesh even if you preferred a bit more give.

    Thank you - very thorough review - except for the one reason I watched: Forward tilt comparison. It's not just sitting upright as on the classic, there is a forward tilt lock which is why I bought the classic version. I am actually having a hard time finding a chair with forward tilt.

    GREAT VIDEO! Do you think the remastered posturefit is better than the lumbar strap? Mostly i plan to stay in an upright/ slightly leaning forward position while gaming. I just ordered the posture fit version but now im worried the up and down lumbar strap might have been a better choice for me as i have kind of an S shaped indention on my spine and im thinking the lumbar strap would have been better to put there? Can the posture fit be adjusted to do the same thing as the lumbar strap?

    Excellent Video !! I just recived my new Aeron Classic in Size C (which has been professionally restored by an official HM Dealer) and funny they put on the new Armrests of the Remastered (love the Pads). So I have a kind of Hybrid now :-D.....Even being 1.79m tall and around 90kg the size C was important to me - I have tried a Mirra 2 last winter and felt kind of "packed" and felt the frame on the sides with my legs when not sitting dead straight... after some homework I saw that the Mirra 2's size of the sitting area is near the Aeron B so I was after a Classic in C - and you are right - you can feel the area where the Pad support for the legs starts a bit but by now I don't feel disturbed by that :)

    HM should add 2 more tilts to the Aeron Remastered at some point
    I could be alone on this opinion/suggestion but I think Herman Miller should make the Aeron more customizable via seat pan and backrest sizes being separate choices because of how different body proportions can be

    I want a chair that I can sit in for 8 hours a day, and has a head rest. I've been looking for used leather executive chairs that lawyers and judges use, those really nice ones with the chesterfield leather pattern. But now I am considering a Herman Miller re-mastered from your videos comparing it to Steecase. I thought Steelcase was going to be the most comfortable but your video changed my mind when compared. What do you recommend? And what is the best chair ever?
