Best discussion I've seen of using H2O2. Very beneficial as I currently have BBA that my SAEs aren't keeping up with. Back in the day, nursing school in the 70s, used it to mop up in the OR. Fizzes like crazy on blood, amniotic fluid, etc. Thanks for the vid. Great bloopers.
That my go to alongside Fritz algae clean out. The other thing I do is take a small paint brush and brush excel on the affected plants and it starts to die off in a few days. Great video thanks for sharing.

I'm using a Söchting Oxydator D in my 110L tank and the brown algae which was covering a lot of plant leaves, the surface of the substrate and the glass has practically vanished in a week and a half.
It works by putting about 125 ml of H202 (3% or 6% solution) into the plastic container, you add the supplied catalyst, put the lid on (which has a tiny hole in it) the plastic contanier then goes upside down into a ceramic base then you place it somewhere in the aquarium.
The catalyst very slowly reacts with the H202, releasing Oxygen into the container, this slightly increases the pressure and pushes a very small amount of H202 through the tiny hole in the lid. Because this container is upside down and inside the ceramic base, the H202 reacts with the aquarium water producing O and O2. The O reacts with organics.
I've just ordered a larger Söchting Oxydator A for tanks up to 800 litres for my bigger tank.

I was wondering if a couple of drops from an eye dropper might loosen the caked on white mineral that forms where the bubbles burst from the air stone , just a two inch patch of calcium carbonate is proving very stubborn even with a scraper..I will have to do more research on hydrogen peroxide.
Hi! I have tried various spray bottles on plants in situ so under water. Will this bottle work at an angle once the H2O2 has reduced in volume? Thanks
In Spain, we use Hydrogen Peroxide for minor cuts, etc. directly on the wounds. The volume usually is 3% sold at the Pharmacy counter, even all the supermarkets sell it in the Health and Beauty section/department. We use it as a substitute for the Surgical Alcohol which is 96% because the Hydrogen Peroxide doesn't sting when applied on the wounds but the Alcohol it does sting lots. Hence the expression "If it stings it's healing". We also have lots of uses for Alcohol not only cleaning wounds but for disinfecting tools.
When I was a kid always fascinated me those bubbles if I had a scratch on my knee
But here, in Scotland, it's almost impossible to find Hydrogen Peroxide 3% and Alcohol 96% unless you buy it on the internet or your Pharmacist want's to get it for you.
Health and Safety regulations are going a wee bit bonkers.

Love the 100g tank! Lol so, I have a $hit ton of BBA in my angel tank. I want to treat the whole tank, 55 gallon (208ish litters) what do you recommend as a dosage?
1.5ml per 5 Litre for 3% H202 - Filter off, swirl it in, leave it 40 mins to hour. You know its working if you see air bubbles form in the algae. Might need to repeat up to 5 times depending how bad it is - leave at least a day between treatments. Keep an eye on water params.
I had no luck with this on bad infestations - Silver flying foxes were the answer, they devoured the stuff.

I've actually heard multiple people from the UK mention that a gallon is 4.5 litres. It's actually 3.8.
An imperial gallon is 4.5l. A US liquid gallon is 3.8l
@@AquariumAdventures That may be true, but most of your audience using gallons for measurements will be Americans. At this point, Americans are really the only ones still using imperial measurements.
It is true, it's not up for debate. Most of my audience is in the UK, and I'm not running a conversion service, which is why I normally talk in litres and centigrade, and if I talk gallons it will probably be the one I learned is school rather than the one used in the country I don't live in - if my American viewers can't appreciate that other parts of the world have sensible units of measurement, that's on them I'm afraid. I shall endeavour to be clearer in future though. 👍
@@AquariumAdventures This isn't even a debate on which system is better; metric or imperial. Personally I agree that the metric system is superior. However, Americans are pretty much the only ones who still use gallons as a measurement for fluid volume. Therefore don't you think it makes more sense to use US gallons?
Anyway, I just thought I'd give some potentially useful advice. You could have just ignored it if you didn't like it. But I guess you chose to go with a different strategy.
I wasn't under the impression it was a debate either. You didn't give me advice - you incorrectly corrected me on how many litres are in a gallon, based on the incorrect assumption I meant the US liquid gallon. Now you're saying I should have been talking about the US gallon - which is a different point. Maybe it would have made more sense to have given the US gallon conversion, but my time machine is broken, hence "I shall endeavour to be clearer in future".
I also hadn't had my morning coffee so apologies if I was overly grumpy!!
Hey mate, great informative demo og h202. I really enjoyed watching the process.
I've got 1 main question.. I have some subwassertang and mini pellia (both liverworts) that have climbed all over some of my anubius and buce. Im trying to eradicate it from my tanks. Would u suggest this method would melt the liverworts enough to kill it off or am I destined to continue to hand pick it off.. fyi.. its no fun at all.

I think you might be destined for a life of picking it off by hand! If you use h202 at the level needed to kill the pest plant it will probably damage the one you're trying to save. Only really works for algae.
I have a 40G tank that needs some Black Beard Algae maintenance in a bad way. I like the idea of taking the decor and plants out -treat & rinse and then put back in the tank. So when it dies, its red, and then does it just let loose and float around to vac out???
When it goes red it is dead - and usually the fish eat it (in my experience) or it can be brushed off

It would if left on long enough. The algae is a much simpler structure than the plant, so it breaks it down quicker.
Any idea if it works on brown diatoms?
I'm not sure to be honest - in theory it should I suppose

They don't really go for the adults but they do pick off the odd shrimplet - plenty of cover for them keeps the population growing (slowly!)
I have 6% h202 v20,
Can you suggest how to use that, i am locked down in my house due to corona outbreak and suddenly my tank is infested with Hydras.
So neither i can order dewormer nor 3% h202.
Please help as lots of shrimps are dying due to this
6% is fine - just use half the recommended dose.

A gallon is 3.78 liters I wish that people that prescribe something they say is risky could get their math right. I see this 1 gallon = 4.5 liters thing a lot in the aquarium hobby this is not the case. 1 liter 33.8 ounces 1 quart 32 ounces 1 gallon 4 quarts just trying to help people that don't want to just wing it!
3.78 in America, 4.5 in British Commonwealth countries where he's obviously from. More to the world than USA.
