7:48 -- the retro-future aesthetic you're referring to is known as "Atompunk".
Atompunk is the future as perceived by the 1950's, just like Steampunk tends to denote futurism as perceived by the 19th century and cyberpunk is futurism as perceived by the 1980's.
Dieselpunk is the cynicism towards industrialization immediately after WW1 but before the new euphoria caused by the atomic era.
It's fascinating how clockwork precise futurism goes from optimism to cynicism every 30 years or so!

Might I suggest Spirit of the Century as your baseline? The pulp era covers the potential framework for that very nicely.
The computer said it was incrementing the event count when you first picked a user name. In most programming languages, the elements of a collection are addressed with the number of the element following the name of the collection in square brackets. Starting at 0, not 1. So the name of the game is the first element of the event collection--event[0]

EpicSymphony1 Yes, I used collection because the word tends to be more meaningful to non-programmers. There are numerous programming terms scattered throughout his play through. I think the developers did a marvelous job.
Just a little aside. If you check the logs, you can see that event counter ticking up. It seems at some point it got reset. The first terminal you login to mentions that the database is corrupted, and it's resetting everything.
In fact, if you have a look at the logs you can use the event counter (which seems to increment each time someone logs in) to get a rough idea of when the user was logging in (useful when the date is missing, as it is in some.)
Apart from that, I think event[0] is also referring to a singularity (ask the AI about the drive.) The first one.
Love that you are kind and polite when vocalizing your responses to the AI,
but not sure why you weren't as polite when actually typing to the AI. ;D
politeness usually requires more words, which takes longer to type
not just that it takes longer, but also the more words you use the easier it seems to get confused.

EVA is supposed to be pronounced as the letters E, V, A, it's not like the name. It stands for ExtraVehichular Activity, so an EVA suit is a suit to be worn in space.

This is a very interesting game. The idea of an angry AI kind of scares me, but it is very intriguing concept to base a game around. Would love to see some more of this.

in java/C/C++/C#, events[0] is the first element in an array of events. an array is a group of objects of equal size lined up in memory. So i'd guess it's meant to be read "The first event"

That old movie is a silent film titled Metropolis, from 1927. It was part of my film study in college and features a dystopian future wher ethere is a broad separation between the wealthy and workers...and there are robots and stuff. A nod to the plot of Event [0]. i like the touch.

Jon there is this point and click game called Fran bow. Its really dark and creepy, and has a mechanic that makes it a bit different than other point and clicks. I think you might really like it.

I remember seeing the beta of this on OfficialStuffPlus a long time ago, it looked like on of the best games I'd ever seen, but now, even though it has the pretty cool communication with the computer, I really don't like the direction it went in. It's still a great game, but I feel like the story needs to be explained better, but in a more optional manner, not the long drawn out intro, and I'm not sure I like the fact that to get the best ending you have to treat the game like a computer dating simulator, and the way the story is very linear and although you have to talk with the computer and build a relationship, it always ends up leading through the same story and your choices have very little difference.
This reminds of the turning test....you're hurting me Jon.

The A.I in this game reminds me of SAYER, a A.I. in a amazing podcast also named SAYER
I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet, and the game doesn't point it out to you except in a loading screen (I bought it at the start of this video then played some), but there seems to be a command you're missing when talking to the AI:
show logs
There's a bunch of missing logs, but you can find transcripts and additional info in there. For instance, the puzzle with the eye is explained a little better in the logs, showing a user running the profiler to break in.
Each terminal seems to have its own unique set of logs. It seems the AI is keeping track of conversations in the vicinity of terminals, and recording it. So have a look at each one and see what more you can find.

It is sort of funny that Jon always seems to get it wrong with whether a thing is an acronym or an abbreviation. Yesterday he got D.VA wrong and today he gets EVA wrong but the other way around.

Oh my gosh that "check the cover" it gave me intense flashbacks to those early copy protection measures where you'd have to check the physical cover of the game box to find the actual code that was printed on it. That was completely intentional, right?

Has anyone seen the movie Sphere I believe it's called? Basically there's a part where the crew is talking to a computer and whenever they make it angry bad things happen, almost exactly like this but underwater. I don't know why but honestly this game scares me. Because I put myself in the game sometimes and I imagine myself alone in space with an AI and honestly that would scare the crap out of me because now from what we know this computer has watched people kill each other and if you think of it the AI is like a child, it gathers info and questions it. So if it saw a bunch of people kill each other it might think it's ok to kill people.... I'm scared for Jon. Good luck XD can't wait too see more right before I go to sleep.
