We joke about Starcraft being a 'folk game' here in Korea. Young kids aren't really passionate or interested in SC these days, but every Korean, young and old, knows and is proud of being the infamous dominating country and the author of first page of E-sports history.
Speaking of the first page - you've done the most, no doubts, but surprisingly it was Russia first to officially recognise e-sports as a sports. Because of Koreans love this game so much we have the entire e-sports right now, otherwise it might wouldn't be a thing! So thank you guys, and keep it up with the Starcraft!
There simply isn’t another game as complex and fun to watch at the same time. The high level play in the pro scene is unmatched. You got multiplayer for the try hards and the arcades/coop/campaign for the casuals. No matter what type of gamer you are, there’s something for everyone.
If Blizzard wasn't in the sad state it is, and they kept updating the game, this game would be perfect for me. After years of polish, in it is in a near perfect state as an RTS with so much diversity of content.
I’m a korean myself, but it really were a cultural phenomenon in south korea. It became somewhat of a folk play imported from the states lol. Legend of a game
In the Philippines in 2002, we dreamed of going to Korea and becoming professional gamers. We could only compete competitively by visiting random Netcafes across the city just to look for possible gamblings on 4vs4's. Even to the point of betting pink slips. Those were fun times.
Me and my friend still play Starcraft online on a daily basis and actually became friends because of the game. I've been enjoying Starcraft ever since it's release and hope it will maintain it's popularity over the years to come
Seeing Microsoft acquire Activision Blizzard filled me with hope for the StarCraft's (BW and SC2) life moving forward. And seeing videos like this from large channels and networks nodding to its legendary place in gaming and esports history reinforces that.
@@Ttv_Puma7 there was a tweet from some guy where he asks blizzard to not to let StarCraft die and Mike Ybarra, current president of blizzard responded to that with some emoji. That was in January of this year

It's never been a better time to get into the original e-sport! Brood War is growing again with places for newer players (Coach Pupil League/ Rookie Starleague) Growing and huge tournaments for non-Koreans (Bombastic Starleague) Many long running leagues still with tons of teams (Brood War Clan League now in the playoffs of it's 55th SEASON!) And best of the best entertainment with Korean leagues full of Legends old and new (ASL casted by fan favorites Tastosis and higher level players like Scan/Nyoken, both in full english)
No its not growing lol. There are people who passionately care about this game but they are a handful. There is small to zero newcomer influx to this game
Despite the levels of complexity to which many pro gamers take StarCraft... it is still, in my worthless opinion, the most watch-able esport there is. It's the essence of a 1v1 match for me. Like chess on steroids where there is no waiting. If you're taken by surprise by a new tactic or strategy, that's on you, and you have to work to overcome it the next time. That is just a small part of what makes it so much fun to watch, even as someone who hasn't played the game in over 7 years now.
Tasteless and Artosis, being the best caster Duo in all of esports also really really helps keeping it up there! When these two are on fire you will laugh NONESTOP!
Loved the original Starcraft. SC2 was alright but didn't quite hit the same sweet spot. Hoping they make a SC3 someday or World of Starcraft would be cool too
no you dont, the team that made blizzard what it was and made starcraft the game you know and love, no longer are apart of blizzard. you dont kwant any one at blizzard touching any thing in the universe now sadly :(
Chinese SC/BW community is surprising active right now. Chinese player Mihu won BSL championship back-2-back recently. Also the CSL (China Star League) has four seasons every year! But just like S. Korean and everywhere else the problem is lacking new top level players.
One of the greatest games of all time, like Smash Melee. And like Melee, it's developer does not give af about making a new one :( But it always be one of the greats.
@@panampace The Smash dev team changed after Melee and it's sequels are terrible. They don't care about the gameplay anymore. The Starcraft devs left Blizzard. Blizzard falsely advertised the Warcraft 3 remaster, and does not give af about the genre. They even removed Starcraft off their promo graphics. Lot's of fans would love a new one, but Blizzard have no interest in it anymore.

Or the first in big broadcast esports. There are some people from younger generations still who play a lot of SC still afaik
Sc in korea will die when sc2 players and fans continue to grow older or die. They probably at the range of 20 to 30 yrs old now, so another 10yrs?
Just an FYI, the word infamous is known for being bad similar to the word notorious.

still a lot of pinoy players playing broodwar, join us in USwest channel pinoy
My friend and his team from the Philippines back in 2000s went to Korea to compete in a StarCraft tournament.
Me and my cousin still play this gem of a game.. so many fond memories. Will check US West pinoy!
Because it’s absolutely amazing and the lore alone makes the current standards look like a joke.
Isn’t it just Warhammer 40K lore tho?
@Alice Amell Yeah SC2’s story was a joke!
What a wonderful tribute to a game that is a core memory for me

Starcraft, Diablo, lineage, counter-strike, random pre-mmos.
The nostalgia...
Quake 2 ahahah !
Starcraft deserves a full-length movie! As well as Warcraft 3!

BroodWar is not sc2. Sc2 and blzd are the ones who destroyed BW pro tournament.

And in 2022, this company released another ‘immortal’ title 😂
