      Apart from the obvious ethical reasons for this idea of substituting meat which comes from death, human population is constantly growing, and soon there won't be enough land of this planet to house all the animals required to feed the meat eating humans. Over half of all habitable land is already used for agriculture and 80% of that is livestock. So they are trying to find a way to provide the meat without needing all the insane amount of land.

    Mad Chicken Disease. Hopefully they are testing for prions.
    Cloning meat is bound to cause prions.

    • @chrism6904
      @chrism6904 Год назад

      Lab-grown chicken, also known as cultured chicken or cell-based chicken, is produced through a process that involves isolating and multiplying specific cells, such as muscle cells or stem cells, from a chicken. These cells are then cultured and differentiated to form chicken meat without the need to raise and slaughter a whole chicken.
      Prions, on the other hand, are misfolded proteins that are primarily associated with the nervous tissue, particularly the brain and spinal cord, of infected animals. Prion diseases, such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), occur when these misfolded prion proteins induce abnormal folding in normal proteins, leading to neurodegenerative conditions.
      In the production of lab-grown chicken, the cells used for cultivation are carefully selected to ensure they do not contain prions or other infectious agents. The starting cells are typically obtained from healthy chickens and undergo rigorous screening processes to ensure their safety and purity.
      Lab-grown chicken is unlikely to cause prions due to several key factors:
      1. Starting with prion-free cells: The initial cells used to culture lab-grown chicken are carefully selected to be free of prions. The cells are typically obtained from healthy chickens that have been thoroughly screened and tested for the absence of prions or other infectious agents.
      2. Exclusion of nervous tissue: Lab-grown chicken production focuses on cultivating muscle cells or other specific cell types that contribute to meat formation. Nervous tissue, which is primarily associated with prion accumulation, is not included in the process. The isolation of specific cells and exclusion of neural tissue significantly reduce the risk of prions in lab-grown chicken.
      3. Strict quality control measures: The production of lab-grown chicken involves stringent quality control protocols at every stage. This includes maintaining sterile laboratory conditions, ensuring proper handling and screening of cells, and monitoring for any signs of contamination. These measures are in place to prevent the introduction of prions or other pathogens during the production process.
      4. Short production cycle: Lab-grown chicken has a relatively short production cycle compared to traditional livestock farming. This means there is less time for prions, if present, to accumulate and propagate within the cultured cells.
      Furthermore, the culturing process for lab-grown chicken occurs in highly controlled laboratory conditions, enabling precise regulation and monitoring of the environment. These stringent measures significantly reduce the likelihood of contamination, including the presence of prions. Stringent quality control protocols are implemented at every step of the production process to guarantee the safety and integrity of lab-grown chicken, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of safety and quality.

      Unless of course, they will only be sold to the privileged who can afford them. Furthering the divide between classes.
