HobbyCraft Bf 109 Review - Worth Building?

- In this classic model kit review, I am looking at the Hobby Craft 1/48 Messerschmitt Bf 109B (kit no. HC1566). In this in-process review, we'll be looking at the instructions, the surface detailing, the transparencies, the decals, potential problem areas to watch out for, and finally, I'll be giving my conclusions. Though this kit has been surpassed in accuracy and detail by kits from Classic Airframes, Modelsvit, and AMG, is it still worth building? Let's find out together!

What a way to start the day…
With one of your great reviews
Good morning from OHIO
Never built a HOBBY CRAFT kit..
adding simple details makes it, nice painting, like the colors you used…
thanks for putting this together…
MODEL ON, where have I heard that before….😊
CHRIS from OHIO 🇺🇸
Thanks Chris!
Best model quickies on youtoob. Great choices, great builds
Thank you!
I bought three of these Hobbycraft 1/48 Bf-109 kits at my local hobby shop when they first arrived years ago (One 109E, one 109D and the 109B you profiled) They are really easy to build and affordable. My 109D was built with Condor Legion markings, and the 109E was in JG26 markings. This weekend I’m going to start on my unbuilt Bf-109B and build it as early Condor Legion aircraft ‘6-3’ with my Cutting Edge decal sheet that I bought years ago!
Very nice! They still hold up well and build quickly. Cheers!
I totally agree about the interior. It's really nice for its time, and with some slight carving, scribing and refinement that seat would be up to resin replacement standards.
For sure. So much nicer than the Tamiya 109E seat!
Another great review! Condor legion aircraft are a great subject to model…choice can be limited and this is a great kit!
Right on, thank you!
Not a bad kit. I always liked 'em.
Right on!
@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 It's true, they get no respect! Lol
The fine interior is because it is basically the injection molded version of the Verlinfen resin set created for the Hasegawa Bf 109E kit.
The whole series of Hobbycraft early Bf 109 kits is inspired by the Hasegawa kits also.
One thing: the strip with rivets on the wing/ fuselage fillet is not present on the B, C or D versions.
I don’t mind, I built one in Spanish markings and I really enjoyed it!
Good review!
Thanks for the insight! I'm glad you enjoyed the review.
Excellent looking kit, you're right about cockpit detail These kits are definitely what modeling is all about, having fun and improving skills. I know you've mentioned in last videos, however, can you share best way to obtain the kits like this. I suspect eBay and shows? The quality is good and you can afford multiple variants of the same aircraft. Still trying to " master" your finishes, looking forward to the next build
Right on! I'm always looking for good deals on kits. My local hobby store has a nice selection of "used" kits. I have found good deals occasionally on eBay (best deals are found buying "lots" of kits) and Amazon. I look at antique shops as well. I shop for deals, not specific kits.
Another great short build report. Any experience with Me 209 from AA Models?
Thanks! I haven't seen the Me 209 from AA models yet. Cheers
HC need lotsa TLC but build up nice!🤔
Also dora the explorer wings does early 109s!

I would like to try a Dora Wings early 109 kit. Cheers!
