I never get tired of Bonanza! I know the lines before they are spoken I’ve watched so much. When I was a kid I watched and now in my 50’s I will watch a episode every night. With todays technology and the evolution of film. They could never re create Bonanza. The different personalities of the son’s and the leadership of Ben. I don’t watch todays tv shows. I’ll just keep watching the classics we grew up with.

Dan Duryea was a very fine actor and goes back to Hollywoods glory days....and that's where he brings me....what a magical time it was! and i hope you all have seen him in one of the Greatest movies ever made....The Little Foxes
Wonderfully written, I must say! No blood shedding. Ending was beautiful with a message to let go of greed. Very hard and they all did in good conscience.
From the look of pure joy on Sam’s as he stepped from the stage, to the look on his face after meeting the kid and finding out who he was, the aging of the past 20 years sadness was very apparent. 😭😭😭😭😭
Every time I watch an episode I wonder where the creators get the ingenuity from. Maybe aliens. A kid that gets himself hooked to Bonanza will become a gentleman and a tough one in life
I've been a big fan of this show for nearly 50 years. I feel like Ben is my Pa and Adam, Hoss and Little Joe are my brothers. Guess that makes the Ponderosa my home!
ME TOOOOO! THESE EPISODES MASSAGE MY HEART CHAKRA! I LOVE THE TEACHING ELEMENTS IN EACH EPISODE. MUST ADMITTHAT I MISS ADAM WHEN HE LEFT THE SHOW BUT THAT IS WHAT LIFE IS ABOUT ...GROWTH WHERE ONE IS PULLED TOWARDS! MUCH RESPECT FOR THE UNWAVERING FAMILY UNITY! REALLY GREAT SHOW!
One of my all time favorite actors. Everyone on show was well cast. Loved the morals of the Cartwright family….and the Sheriff who never let his friendship with Ben interfere in his job.
I love Dan Duryea. He reminds me of Richard Widmark. Even since I watched him starring in The Last Wagon I’ve loved him as an actor. I’ve watched that same movie about 4 times and I’m sure I’ll watch it again. 😊😊😊
I was just a young girl when I did makeup for a few episodes...Like 6 or 7 ...The set stage, then spliced the flim..Lol...Thank god the theme song change to become a legendary theme song for many a young cowboy/cowgirl to enjoy at family hour....
Dan Duryea shared the stage and screen with the biggest names in the business, including Bette Davis (Little Foxes); Jimmie Stewart (Winchester 73); Lizabeth Scott (No Place for Tears. This is an intense noir); Edward G. Robinson/Joan Bennett (Scarlet Street) just to name a few. He held his own and then some in his performances.
@@garryvee I grew up in the 50's watching Dan Duryea. I remember him being a very well known actor back then He generally played bad guy roles. Very good actor. Enjoyed seeing him in this Bonanza episode.
This was a really good storyline, and after Ben spoke with Sam, I was wondering he would sway his mind to do the right thing, and sure enough, he did, I am surprised and pleased with this ending as well. The older gal there wanted attention, she didn't get it, and the bounty hunter gave up his opportunity to get even with his so called 20 years of embarrassment, as well that ends well, with the Bonanza family, and friends.
What a beautiful ending! So true.. sometimes weights a body carry around are not always physical. Weights personally that repentance, reconciliation and Jesus Christ can Only lift off. Man was born to be Free!👍🌴🍵🌅🌴
Dan Duryea was married to his wife Helen Bryan for 35 years before she preceded him in death. He never remarried. They had two sons Peter who worked as a time as an actor and Richard 😊😊😊😊
36:15 Ben sends Hoss to Virginia City to get Sheriff Coffee in case Sam does some talking ??!! It's a two hours horseback ride ONE WAY from the ranch to Virginia City!! So Hoss and the Sheriff, if he just happens to be available, will be back to the ranch in over 3 1/2 to 4 hours minimum.
There's a video floating around on RUclips of an old man that was interviewed in the 50's who grew up in the late 1800s being asked if life back then was as depicted in old westerns. He said that it wasn't as tumultuous as films depict it. He went on to say that you could leave your front door wide open while you were out of town and upon return nothing would have been disturbed.
@@toinimoore3463 actually I do love them. Bonanza a Saturday night ritual in my childhood. It was a tongue in cheek comment. Apparently my dry sense of humor is lost in translation through text. 🙃
👍👌👏 There you have it: The most worse things in the world are money and women. 😁 ;-) Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this old Western series. Best regards luck and health.
A good story until he said that the lake hasn't changed in 20 years. :D I thought that it was going to be a ruse and there would be nothing there, that he must not be able to remember it, to convince the kid and others that he really didn't know and then go back later when the others had all given up. 37:50 Now that's just plain silly! Why would he carry the gold in plain sight of the road to the Ponderosa? It was a good story up to this point. Going back to the "scene of the crime." Why?! Needed a more plausible way for them to meet. But I can't think of one right now. Like, if they split up the gold and tried to hide the gold in the saddles and canteens but were accosted when saying goodbye. Perhaps the two of them were saying goodbye when the vultures show up to accost them. Ben says "let me fill your canteens" and before Logan can stop him, he feels how heavy they are... Or, Logan draws his gun and tells Ben not to touch his canteens. The vulture draws his gun as Logan an the boy run into the barn for cover. Logan keeps watch as he tells the boy to saddle up 2 more horses so that they can ride out the back door before anyone else arrives and surrounds them, but then Ben walks in as he did and the rest the same. Well, except for the Vulture giving up his reward. Ben could ask him if he's going to carry that all the way to his old boss and the vulture can admit. "He was an old man. He's probably retired years ago or been long dead." But giving up the $10,000 reward. That's not plausible. How would you have arranged or written the ending?
A missing shovel could have been a good clue that they were going out to dig up the gold, and so Ben goes after them and the vultures see Ben and follow. Better than seeing them from the road at the same tree/cave! That was so silly.
I was too. Since it was so easy to find, then why wasn't the law able to find it during the 20 years that Sam Logan was in prison? Why weren't other criminals able to find it while Sam Logan was in jail? That part of the story wasn't logical.
@@lynettepalecek3141 The most illogical thing was "this natural lake hasn't changed in 20 years." Same with the tree stump but that was needed for the story.

Blame your opponent to create a controversy where non exists to divert attention away from what is really going on. Once again, Ben's faith is vindicated. Wonderful. nice to see veteran Dan Dureyea at work.
Duryea only lived 4 more years after this episode aired...cancer killed him in 1968 at the age of 61.
