Should be noted that while this DI makes sense for Melee, it's actually the exact opposite Smash 4. Holding directly towards the stage is the optimal horizontal DI in that game. So, if you're playing both games or trying to learn how to Smash 4 DI from this video....don't get them mixed up.

If you want DI practice or it explained in a more interactive way, Rivals of Aether has a really good tutorial that includes a visual indicator as to how much your DI will affect the trajectory.

Hey, ive really been struggling with falcon combos on fastfallers. Would reaaallly love to see a falcon combo game on fastfallers video.
any aerial connects to grab at low percents (not a true combo but works 90% of the time). Once you have a grab, you tech chase with stomp or knee. Can throw in a side b after a stomp. At 50% if you knee them near the ledge they are probably dead.
At 90% upthrow fsmash kills except DI away ofc. over 100% i believe upthrow knee kills on any DI. The majority of your punish game is literally just tech chasing.

Most unique and creative combo system ever made? All DI does is end combos it doesn't extend them
that's not true at all

DIing is a 50/50 in many situations. Combo DI allows you escape a combo more effectively by moving farther away from the opponent. However, moving farther away vs a KO move is bad and can kill you earlier/put you at a worse position. Survival DI allows you to survive a KO move more effectively by putting you at a trajectory that goes a shorter distance. However, moving at a shorter distance trajectory vs a combo move extends a combo, which can guarantee death. It's deeper than just escaping combos. Choosing the right DI and being able to read/react to DI w/ certain options is essential to Melee's punish game.
melee DI and sm4sh Di are so different. sometimes I DI a move wrong because I'm thinking of a different iteration of smash.
mango's performace at wtfox2 really showcased a lot of his skill, so he has a chance I believe ^^

Wait, I've always known for a fact that DI occurs when your already holding the direction the moment you get hit, but does moving the analogue stick AFTER the hit during the hitstun affect you at all? I've always thought it influences you slightly, but i guess not. Guess this will stop me from ever accidentally DI jumping and wasting my double jump trying to recover lol.

SSBM Tutorials Do you use your C-stick with survival DI?
I do. Usually for moves that hit kill horizontally, I hold the C-stick straight to the side and the control stick in the upper angle.
So for example if Falcon knee's me towards the right side of the screen. I will hold C-stick left and smash DI the control stick up and slightly left.
