a small bounce is better than smashing into the runway. see that sink rate right before touching down and the pilot's correcting (some people say overflare) is what kept that bounce to a miminum. Kudos to the pilot because in the sim when that happens to me, we end up ballooning and ultimately going around.
All these UPS MD-11F freighters were acquired through Boeing locating former passenger planes or freighters and having them converted in Singapore for UPS specifications such as a larger lower cargo door and updated avionics. UPS mainly flys them to Europe, China and South America, this was started around 2001, before they decided to get rid of their 747-100s and buy the new 747-400F models... still though bought around 12 Md-11's for mod.
@me3best No its an MD-11F... modified by UPS specifically for their cargo needs. I think they have around 20 now. For South America Asia and Europe etc.
md11s are still flown around the world with klm still operating 10 as passenger and all the others are cargo. compared to a lot of planes they are very safe. there is no problem with the md11. the md11 just wasn't a good passenger plane. they are one of the best cargo planes flying right now. fedex is using there 777s to replace the MD10s but they have about 64 md11a and not retiring any because of its extremely high takeoff weight capability
Bouncing is not normal, infact its really dangerous, the spoilers will deploy once the aircraft has bounced, and if you bounce too high you will lose airspeed and slam on the runway.
That's not a bounce. A bounce following a landing usually results from excess sink rate at touchdown- usually from an incomplete, or late flare. Other causes are drop-in after flare completed too high or low airspeed entering the flair.. This is called a skip ( a shallow skip) and likely felt fine inside. The body (center) gear barely if at all touched the runway.
Not really a bounce.... pilot seemed to flare a bit too much and actually gained altitude just as the main gear touched down. Had he slammed into the runway and actually bounced back up, you would see major wingtip deflection which you don't see in this video. Great video though!

The MD11 is a piece of cake to land. Nobody greases them all the time.

The MD-11 has the weird tendancy to bounce if you flare to much. :) Nothing bad about this!

Pretty sure there was a deadly crash in tokyo that resulted from the bouncing in 2009, so maybe there is something bad mr flying dutch man

My company does a lot of UPS shipment. Our account rep told me the pilots hate flying the MD11 for exactly this reason.

beacuse the engine located on the tail has no room to flex when the plane touches down so it ends up bouncing
