    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  2 года назад

      Thanks man! I didn’t replace the upper arms, mainly for budget reasons. You don’t need to change them unless your going over 3” on the lift. After that’s it pretty much a must to help with alignment. If your keeping your stock TRD wheels then you can take that money and put it towards upper arms and be in the same budget I was in. • @FortKnoxCo

      You may be correct. With the research I’ve seen lost of answers and most report +15 on stock SR5 wheels. Mainly I was trying to show what an aftermarket offset looks like with a specific wheel so people could see how much to expect. It definitely is way different than stock. Lol

    Great video and very helpful. I actually ordered the exact rims in the link but went with the gray ones. That said, I went with the stage 2 Eibach lift (without extra reservoirs) and hopeful I have the same luck as you with everything working out after the build was done. Only question I have is around the adjustments required. It appears most of vids where 285/70/17 are installed, require mudflap removal and addressing the inner fender well towards the front of the truck. Some even required a 1” to 1.5” trimming (baby viper cut) to eliminate rubbing. You had none of these issues with this setup?

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  4 месяца назад +1

      That’s awesome. Should look sweet once you get it all together. I only had a little bit of running on the mud flaps and had to trim and secure them so they don’t touch. Didn’t have to do much though to get the running to stop. We get no rub at full turn both ways , forward and reverse.
      I made a video about the rubbing and trim I did. Should be right after this video. Or it can be found in my video library.

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  2 года назад

      Nope. For this lift and install it’s basically the new shocks and springs. It gives you that 2-2.5” lift without anything major needing to be adjusted or altered. Just a tire alignment. You can add upper arms for a littler easier alignment and clearance but it’s not required.

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  2 года назад

      It was the all with the lift kit. It came with the lift coils to level out and lift. I think it was almost 2” in the rear. The whole truck was 2.5” taller measured in center of the vehicle. Once I put the tires on and it was sitting on the ground it was a total of 3” from all stock.

  • @InGratitudeIam

    To run 285s properly, you need 8" wide rims. I would not want to risk a blow out at highway speeds should I need to take evasive action when granny drifts into my lane (actually happened). Then there's the additional weight, lower gas mileage, re-gearing of the front and rear differentials and decreased braking efficiency resulting in greater stopping distances. So, for $1,000 for rims, $1,300 for tires, $1,500 for re-gearing and 25% increase in fuel costs every time you fill up (20 mpg down to 15 mpg), I'm not sure if "the look" is worth the cost. You can skip re-gearing and enjoy crappy performance off the line as well as towing issues due to lower torque. Then there's the higher center of gravity and handling at highway speeds.

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  2 года назад +1

      Sounds like you’ve put a lot of thought into your decision to Not get this set up. There’s a lot of people that have all different kinds of combinations of wheel tire and suspension set ups. I think everyone mostly knows what to expect and what their getting into. I don’t put 37’s on my diesel and hope to get better gas mileage. Haha. I knew what I was signing up for. I love the way this set up looks and so far I have zero complaints. Still averaging about 18mpg and I think it handles better with the wider wheel base and grippier tires.

    • @InGratitudeIam
      @InGratitudeIam 2 года назад +1

      @@FortKnoxCo That's fair. It seems like a lot of people who post this type of content don't mention these important aspects to consider. 285s on a 7" wide rim really isn't a good combination (according to the manufacturer) and yet people think it's okay.

    • @FortKnoxCo
      @FortKnoxCo  2 года назад

      @@InGratitudeIam yeah these are 9” wheels and I’d usually go at least that when doing an 11” or 12” wide tire. You’ll still get a good look but not compromise the integrity of the tire.

    • @InGratitudeIam
      @InGratitudeIam 2 года назад +1

      @@FortKnoxCo With 98% of my driving being on pavement and the rest being forest service roads and the rare fire trail, I can't justify the expense. Yes, I love the look but, for my particular needs, it's not justified. I will say that switching out the Bilstein 5100s in the front with 6112s and included springs was well worth it... for me. :))
      The other thing is maintaining or improving width over height. It seems like going from 265s to 285s might add .75" in width and height. Not ideal because the width should be more for stability. Then there's the lift which adds to more instability. Maybe the engineers at Toyota were on to something? Going to 9" wheels definitely makes sense.
      You might want to go into that more in another video.
      No doubt, for an extra $20K, you can create an on-road/off-road beast that is fully capable in both environments. I like my 5th gen more than my 4th gen, but there were certain aspects to the 4th gen that were pretty cool.
      Thanks for taking the time.
