Another reason for the decline of black sitcoms is there aren't a lot of sitcoms on the networks period. Nowadays ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC have only 1 or 2 nights of sitcoms altogether. When I was a teenager in the early 1990s, there were 3, 4, or 5 nights of comedies on the networks. There would be neither an hour or 2 hours of sitcoms on a given night.

i agree Netflix and some of the other stream platforms are giving sitcoms more opportunities. I might do an update to this video.
or a review of The Upshaws very well done sitcom in my opinion. What you think??

@@NostalgicBlackCulture Well I don't really watch Netflix because I don't have Netflix. The Upshaws must be a good black sitcom.

Most people don’t realize there are plenty of black sitcom‘s on bounce TV, i’m not really into the neighborhood or blackish. NBC is the absolute worst network to put a black sitcom on these days. ( i’m still not sure why NBC is still in business as a network, it has the worst programming on TV period)

Facts, most of the recent black sitcoms to hit NBC have been cancelled after 1-2 seasons. I caught the Carmichael show on Netflix lol

Yes Bounce is pretty much the place to go for decent black sitcoms, nowadays.

Those who weren't alive in the late 20th century really missed out on the glory days of the black sitcom. Luckily for me, being born in 1983, I got to experience it, & it was glorious!! I grew up with all the Fox & WB & UPN black sitcoms, & man, do o ever miss those days. I watched all the way to the very end in the mid 2000s. I never watched the reality shows. I hate reality shows of all kinds. I'm not into Blackish or the Neighborhood. Just not my type of black sitcom.

Thanks for the comment, share pass it along. The WB and UPN network def carried black sitcoms through the 90’s. I’ve seen some newer sitcoms on Netflix check out mike Epps show The Upshaws

I was born in 2004 and I watched a lot of these old black sitcoms. Luckily I grew up with DVDs or just reruns they gave in the 2000s, I wish we had sitcoms like these today but I'm glad I got to watch these and can still enjoy them today.

@usOk04, wow, you're the same age as my classmate's son, which really makes me feel old, lol. Sounds like you were wise enough to purchase the black sitcoms that were released on DVD, instead of just trying to stream them, as sadly, not all of these shows are available, for streaming. Sadly, not all of them were released on home video, either, but a handful of them are still easily available to watch, nowadays.

@@brandonpage7087 Yeah I'm glad my house hold was heavy on sitcoms that's all we watched lol. 2000s sitcoms were also good like My Wife and Kids, George Lopez, or Malcolm in the Middle were fun shows. I'm glad we got streaming channels to watch them again but definitely hope sitcoms make comeback because television nowadays just don't have many great shows imo.

10:32:to give you some TV history here, this was the late 90's equivalent of something named "The Rural Purge" that happened in the late 60's early 70's
The networks got rid of all their Middle America type sitcoms(The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction etc) to aim for more higher end advertisers and larger eyeballs(sound familiar?) And thats why you had stuff like All in The Family, The Jeffersons,Maude,Mary Tyler Moore etc. The Networks threw away their black building blocks sitcoms to shoot for a Whiter audience

Yup TGIF was King 👑 back then alwi showing me the best of the best out there like my some of my favorites like Hanging with Mr Cooper was my TGI favorite for funniest and family matters was my favorite funny serious life lessons show and fresh prince was my favorite functional kid against the rich world funniest sitcom / family show to just like my older favorites like the Jeffersons Cosby show and of all time when TGIF was getting hot 🔥 starting with perfect strangers another 80s masterpiece sitcom/family/Life lessons all time favorite show that still today never gets old watching it over again.
Because Just like the Jeffersons and Mr Cooper never getting old to and thank God for streaming now on Hulu I can relive it 24 7 wherever whenever as long as possible and it still hits me the same way every time it never gets old only more stuff I catch now that I didn't understand back then so actually it's even better this time around with the best of the best eras at my fingertips and finally no commercials only stupid adds now that are worse sometimes but shorter.
Yup no doubt about it I grew up in the golden age of tv movies and almost everything else in the 80s through end of 90s was phenomenal masterpieces from the Sopranos to Perfect strangers to Tgif or Buffy the Vampire slayer or best cartoon series ever from late 80s into 90s with Thunder cats or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just like the two awesome movies they made to that was sold out or always rented out over and over again even the movies were fantastic in the 90s and Disney with kick ass titles all the time from Mighty Ducks trilogy to the Newsies or Hook another favorite and masterpiece watched over and over again and still remember the theme songs and lines from.
Once again people so many 90s tv shows to movies it didn't matter what it was or if it was cartoon the storylines we're always making you want more and more just like the theme music for shows to like Wayne's Brothers or Mr Cooper I still remember everything and when I watch it over and over again now it was like i never left it's still the best era of entertainment ever with the best of all other eras before combined when you talk about the 90s I would go back in a heartbeat to that era in a heartbeat everything was so much better in quality in entertainment world especially music and movies definitely no question ❓

Most of them move on to become famous movie stars like Will Smith made Men in Black and Martin Lawrence made Big Momma house. As a Jewish white guy I grew up watching Black movies like Comedy, Action, Drama and Horror. But the only Black sitcoms show I watched was Everybody Hates Chris and Blackish. Because it wasn’t until Don Cheadle who played War Machine from Iron Man introduced me to Fresh Prince.
