I usually make mine 24cm × 26cm and I fold the 26cm side in half. Hope this helps. :)

I was taught that you should round the corners on pockets so lint doesnt get stuck in them. Easy to do after the pocket is made.

What are the white strips you use and iron on? Are they necessary?
That is interfacing, it helps fabric is not stretchy and more beautiful, it's good for beginners to sew easier.
