For me DS1 Firelink Shrine has to be my 1#. The music felt like a calm breath cicle, like telling you that, after all , there is still beauty and life on this decadent world. The music is completely calm and contrast everything else.
The default Firelink Shrine from DS III is my fav, partially for bias since it was my first Souls game, but also because I think it so perfectly captures the dire, foreboding, and almost sad feel of the game’s theme. To me, it just sounds like “this sucks, and it’s gonna end poorly, but it needs to be done.”
the souls ost equivalents of warm hugs between the songs with strings and vocals in them, Hunter's Dream and Moonlit Melody are my favourites because both the composition and arrangement feel more articulated, pronounced and realized than the others
I really enjoy your take on each score. Even though there is some bias behind it, you describe the feeling exactly as I have felt it in these hubs! Great job! As a side note: In my opinion I will never get tired to listening to Lies of P's main hub theme of Hotel Krat. It's just perfection! :3
As someone with Elden ring bias as it was my first instead of bias against it I adore roundtable hold's theme. It's amazing that the same theme can go from making you feel relaxed in the bustling early game hold, to sad when it's almost empty by the end game and then back to relaxing when you are placed there after the credits and get to reflect on your journey
Secret Betrayal is my favorite, it's haunting and beautiful, considering what you plan on doing when that track starts playing in DS3. The track has a surprising amount of weight to it despite being so quiet. Plus it feels like a prelude to one of the best tracks FromSoftware has ever made and one of the best tracks *in all of gaming,* "Epilogue", aka the DS3 credits theme. It has a very similar somber feel (thanks to to amazing vocals), it lacks the finality the "Epilogue" does, but it builds up to it, when you know the right thing to do is bring the wretched fucking cycle to an end, you have that track to remind you, that whike it won't be easy, its something you have to do. If you ever do a credits theme ranking, you know my pick for best. DS3's credits might as well be unsikppable IMO because thanks to "Epilogue" they absolutely are for me, why should I skip such incredible music?
The maiden in black from Demons souls takes my first spot every day, tightly followed by the beautiful serene cellos from Bloodborne. DeS was my first Souls game (and Bloodborne my favorite, so yeah probably some bias here), and I was terrified of the Souls games perceived difficulty, which is why the music in the Nexus is so extra soothing for me. As my first souls-game the Nexus was a true reprieve from the stress of the levels, which is perfectly represented in the music score which is the one of them all that could probably lull me to sleep anytime! :-)
Same for me, all though Demon's Souls is my favorite. I love both those games and had hoped he placed maiden in black a bit higher but it's okay. It's rare to find a soulsborne fan that started with Demon's Souls :)
Secret Betrayal is my favorite theme primarily because it has the strongest sense of melancholy which is what I come to these games for. I also might be biased in favor of the cello in it…
Hey Billy I am doing a marathon of all your Soulsborne videos, just wanted to say love your content and your accent. Would u be willing to play Lords of the Fallen and do a boss rankings of that game.
Good list! For me my top 3 would be 1. DS3 default hub 2. DS1 Firelink 3. Majula Pains me to not have the Hunters Dream in the top 3 but they're just so strong
I think we can all agree that despite Dark Souls 2 being the black sheep of the franchise, none of the other entries managed to make a hub as good as Majula. It's just perfect in every way.
@@NeloBladeOfRanni There are more good things going for it but none of them are better than the other games for most people. Only thing most people can agree on that DS2 has the best of, is the hub ost.
I can't decide what my number one is...I guess it's a tie between DS1 and DS2...I really like both of the Bloodborne tracks too...I like listening to the DS3 tracks also, but for some reason they start to get on my nerves if I stay there too long...I'm not sure why.
One thing, I Wonder... About How Could or Would Look Like a Video about Ranking the Capital Areas of Every of these games... OK! For DS1 We have Anor Lodo, and for DS2 Drangleic Castle (IF we Don't have Other Options), For Elden Ring we have Leyndell. Sekiro... Probably Ashina Castle (For Obvious Explainable Reasons). Bloodborne... IDK... I know about Yahrnam. But Solo Area IDK. Probably Central Yahrnam, Cause the Center of the City. If not other Options... OK! DS3. I'm Thinking Either for Irrethil of the Boreal Valley (I know Anor Londo is there Too). Or Lothric Castle... (Or Other Options). I know that The Path to Yorm has Capital in It's Name.
Majula definitely is the best hub theme in the Soulsborne franchise. It's... wistful and gentle, soft and memorable, it fits the little ruined village to a T. Whatever was life there is now over bar the undead dwelling in the fading ruins they discovered.
Everyone can always agree on with DS2 is Majula will always have that feeling and music that none of the other HUBs have or possibly will ever have. Haven't even started the Vid and damn positive its number 1.
Billy, I love your videos (and this one is no different) but the exaggerated way you pronounce Japanese/Asian names like Yuka Kitamura and Sekiro .etc always kinda comes across a little bit off for me imo. I'm sure your intentions are good, and I appreciate that you're trying to enunciate the names correctly, but I feel like some people might get the wrong idea with the accent/tone of it Please don't take it to heart or anything! I consistently love all your videos, but I figured I'd mention and give feedback
Not surprised Majula's number 1, but for me its near the middle. Way too empty, and the random notes just feel out of place in general. Makes me think of DS2 as a whole. Not a bad song or place, just weaker than everything else. Everyone just loves to glaze Majula :/
DS2: "Wait I won?"
more like: "Wait... I won? and it is actually in a good thing?"
Ds2 always wins
its so nice, that so many people love and appreciate majula. it really encapsulates a hopeless hope if that makes sense.
Majula has to be #1
And DS3 Firelink Shrine has to be #2

Majula is quite literally the vibe

ERB references in my Billy S video? What a combo!

Probably the only list DS2 is going to top, deservedly so.
Majula is by far my favorite place in all of soulsborne for me. Its sad that ds2 is so underrated.
We all knew it. The only thing DS2 is undisputed.
Nah DS2 has more good going for it than just the hub ost
