“So, is it like, weed? Or is she putting drugs in this?” If there is ever a Copperhead Strike parody, that line HAS to be in there!
Aidan Marcus I know I’m late, but I’m pretty sure it’s moonshine.
@@SarahCormican yeah it is
I really hate the coaster community when they tear really good and fun rides like this apart by saying "it's not fast or forceful enough and not thrilling, therefore it's going to suck"
Props to you Taylor for not doing that and actually recognizing that more people than coaster enthusiasts ride coasters and that slower and less forceful rides are sometimes the most fun rides.
Rides can be thrilling and not forcefull. Not all rides need to be insanely forcefull
I also think that speed can also be a significant disadvantage to a coaster. Slower coasters can turn much tighter and generate the same ammount of force but then pack more elements into the layout and have them much tighter to each other. The only real benefit you gain from speed is height, long floater hills and wind in your face.
Take a look at Lost Gravity in Walibi Holland, its a super compact and "slow" Mack Big Dipper, but it gets great reviews all the time because of its funky and tight elements, hangtime aswell as ejector.
Thank you, not every coaster has to go 80mph down a 300 ft hill. This coaster looks really fun and would make a great addition to the park
Also there are lots of people that aren't as good in dealing with having 3-4G's on their bodies. Some people I know got a grey out at Black mamba and that's not an insane high or fast coaster, just a forcefull one
This is so true. There's some people who actually prefer some of the slower, less forceful rides. Giga coasters don't appeal to everyone.
I felt like this was a very fair and accurate analysis. Adding to what you said about the opinions of some enthusiasts, I feel like some enthusiasts expect every coaster to be record breaking monsters. Examples include the people that were upset about Yukon Striker not being a giga and the ones who slammed Time Traveler for being a spinning coaster. I'd consider myself a GP-enthusiast since I can get a kick out of rides that aren't very intense but still fun in other ways (or perhaps another term). Carolina Goldrusher is a good example. I just love the scenic, relaxed feel of it. I'm very excited for this one too; it looks awesome.
At least for me, I think a majority of the enthusiast disappointment is more on the "biggest investment ever" line. When you make a declaration like that, especially with Fury in the same park, you assume it IS going to be a record breaking monster. If you peel back that declaration, more enthusiasts would have appreciated this announcement, and still obviously will as time passes
The reason it was the "Biggest investment in Carowinds History" Because of the already-stated steel price, the retheming of that area, and the hotel.
I have a feeling that this is gonna be one of those rides that you have low expectations for, and it turns out to be amazing
What I think it is, is that you are the snake (copperhead) trying to get Granny's moonshine and you have to run before she kills you
The Coaster then why is the train themed to a truck lmao
@@mangerang well I know it has something to do with granny's moonshine
Why would a snake want moonshine
@@racingfan2897 .....idk I feel like I'm digging my own grave on this one
lmao
“What’s in the Jam?” A screen and a couple lights
Carowinds is my home park and I've been more than happy even before Intimidator opened. Now with that, Fury 325, and Copperhead I'm proud to live near one of the 5 greatest thrill parks on earth.
Me Too!
i’m so so so excited for copperhead strike because it’s at my home park , and i’m excited to ride it with some of my friends
The theme is that granny makes good jam, however there is a special secret ingredient. So someone (you) go to the barn where the barn is produced and discover that she’s making moonshine and you must now get away. The ride is named Copperhead Strike because it’s a cool name (I mean) because copperheads are common in the area where the barn is located. The ride is supposed to signify you getting away from Granny.
a copperhead is a machine that makes moonshine I think
Love your vids bro your amazing this is awsome
Edit:the year of the launch coaster
xbeat If only Yukon Striker had a launch
Then it would be the year of the launch coasters
Oh boi, another new coaster! I’ve seen the trailer for it earlier
Honestly, this is the one I am most pumped up about next year. That second launch during an airtime hill followed by the hangtime on the top hat is going to be amazing. Really gives Carowinds that top 4 with Intimidator, Fury 325 and Afterburn. I don't get why so many people are down on this coaster though. Sure its not the fastest but this coaster is going to be pure fun between the jojo roll and the hangtime. I cannot wait to get on this ride next year!
Also one quick note that I don't think many are talking about. At 3:56, if you are a tall guy like me, that may or may not be a bit of a head chopper right there, which is actually unintentionally pretty cool. But only one way to find out if that's really the case.
i really like these analyses they help me get a better idea of what’s good and bad about the ride
This ride will be fantastic. People said icon looked slow and boring and now look at it. It's Insane. I'd love to ride it one day
Moonshine. You can see the distillers in the animation and it fits the southern theme very well.
Carowinds’ still bringing in the Golden Ticket Awards
Looks very interesting, the launch over a hill is awesome!
Cant wait to go this park for the first time next year. Glad to be hitting it finally when this will be there
Who else is glad that this is their home park?
I'm just glad Carowinds finally has a launch coaster. I could not be any more happier for my local amusement park. Now add back the Log Fume ride and convert Vortex into a floorless coaster and I can die happy.
#whatsinthejam
Copperhead Blood?
It's moonshine not jam
Snake venom
Weed
A shed with illegal stuff
This makes Carowinds a must visit!!
I’ve ridden DC Rivals & I can say Mack can make an intense ride if they want to ;) however I don’t think this will be as intense
Icon is intense in the second half aswell
Christian Moss Yeah much more than the POVs show. It’s my new number one, just beating out Nemesis.
Can confirm. DC Rivals (especially backwards) is one of the most intense experiences I’ve had on a coaster. Rivals my first rides on X and I305
@@CoasterWriter Euromir is also really forcefull. Especially backwards
Coming in 2020 timber striker
@Coaster Studios So the Jam would actually be Moonshine. And yes Granny has copperheads to fend off any would be intruders from getting her famous secret moonshine recipe
I actually think this coaster is going to be more thrilling than what a lot of people think. It can’t be more faster than what it is or it’s really going to hurt you. The second launch is whats going to set this ride apart from other launch coasters. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever rode before
I seriously don’t get why so many ppl r hating on this ride because it’s not what they wanted it to be. I think this ride looks amazing
The naming and theme is good for the local area. It kind of reminds me of a new version of the Cyclone. I can’t wait to ride it! 😁
Yesss carowinds is my home park yeassasssss
This coaster looks so freaking fun!!!
2019 is mack’s year and i’m hopeful 2020 will be rmc’s
CANT WAIT 2 RIDE THT THANG THIS SUMMER
Best ride ever! You will love it
2:50 a LSM Launch on top of an airtime Hill is pretty nice. Mack Rides did this already on Walibi Belgium on the Water Coaster "Pulsar". I know that a lot of those launches are not that forceful but with that airtime... holy that feels so much better. I guess that Coaster will be pretty good, i really like Mack Rides, they are not intense, but they balance all forces verry well, so that you will never get dizzy or something on their coaster.
I think Mack Rides is doing a fantastic job of blurring the line between "thrill rides" and "family coasters". They seem to have found a happy medium that's intricate and forceful enough to please thrill-seekers, whilst at the same time not being too over the top for the GP, just your average rider.
Gotta love the JoJo roll.
Or, as I call it, a _Star Platinum roll._
Ooh, JoJo reference! ^^

Six Flags analysis next! Can’t wait
I think it's gonna have the best theme out of all the roller coaster in Carowinds.
I don’t get the theme the ride is themed to granny making jam but she also makes moonshine and the ride is called copperhead strike am I missing something
Probably because cedar fair isn’t very good at theming
Coasters and Culture LMAO perfect. round of applause to cedar fair on that one
Liquor stills are made of copper.................
Omg it’s in testing phase! IT LOOKS GREAT!
CoyDog790 It really doesn’t look great. It’s very slow compared to the animation. Don’t get why this is such a hyped ride, just wait tell it opens
4:23 yeah it slowed down that was my favorite part 😁
Actualy we already had a Launch over an Airtime Hill on Pulsar at Walibi Belgium, at least on the 3rd and fastest run over it, it´s a lot of fun.
its in rigorous testing now. its built and running. they even test it at night and the headlights on the trains even work. i cant wait till june. it looks great 👍👍
Slow, compact rides have their advantages too. They’re capable of having more twisty turny tracks which can be fun in its own right. Space mountain is fun imo because it’s slow but the turns are very sharp and sudden.
Cool lookin' ride, i'd luv to ride it, it looks awesome.
The jam seems like a moonshine reference, Copperhead also maybe a reference to moonshine / copperhead road. Seems like a cool coaster. I could be overthinking the theming but with the copper boilers etc shown in the graphics that would be my best guess.
I think this will be #2 at the park. Looks absolutely amazing in my eyes!
I think that both enthusiasts and GP will be hype for this, being that it’s the only Mack Multi Launch in the US. but you explained it very well in the video and I’m not too great at that
I want more of these rides
I REALLY like Mack Rides' Rides, in the autumn i tried Helix at Liseberg for the first time and it was FREAKING AMAZING, like its my new favourite coaster, we tried it 3 times when were at Liseberg because it was that good
I have ridden it twice now and other than the weird video at the first launch it was great.
Keep up the good work taylor
Great Video Taylor.
Personally Mack rides are fantastic.
Yep!
agree
Great analysis I’m so excited and it was very funny
This thing looks outstanding
Damn even more reason to head to Carowinds
This coaster looks great 2019 will be a Good year😁
Excited for it!
2019 is gunna be crazy. Idk how I'll fit all this in. I always have a layover in Charlotte so maybe go by the park on my up north to CP lol this ride looks great
This is what Worlds of Fun needs. It's been bugging me that they haven't gotten anything big since Prowler in '09.
The "jam" is old fashioned corn liquor, moonshine, mountain dew, or as a nod to the former launch coaster, White Lightning. The secret ingredient is copperhead venom.
I am from NC, I think the secret ingredient from past stories growing up is possibly from people running homemade brew such as white lightning brew. Just a southern type thing I guess you would say.
This is my sleeper ride of 2019
the secreat ingredient in the jam is moonshine - condider the theme and the still in the demo animation.
Slinky Dog Dash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a Mack Double Launch too. Even though it to is meant for families it is in my opinion still pretty forceful and awesome and Copperhead Strike will be like an upgrade from it!👍
Launch coasters seem abound this year and all anyone can do is complain. This is just proving my personal belief that it doesn't matter whom is making your coasters, what is being cloned, etc, no one is happy. My home park is six flags gadv and while i do think we could use something like maxx force or west coast racers as it'd fill int he gap left by a lot of people who love and miss batman and robin the chiller, we definitely needed another really intense giant flat ride and the spot it's going on is also pretty perfect, pretty much effecting ending the "dead zone" issue the place had for many years. And this is no exception, park had no launch coaster, it's getting one that "basically" doesn't exist in the USA from the maker. Also when I see those loops I think more of eurofighter gerstauler than anything.
OneAndOnlySound my home park is also sfga and i totally agree, i think the giant discovery will improve the new area very well especially while coinciding with cyborg
It looks amazing
Awesome analysis! I think this will be a fun launch coaster. I don't get why people are saying that it's slow while it's still going fast at such a compact space. :)
Copperhead strike is referencing the name of the moonshine that granny is keeping secret, the ride is you escaping her farm after she catches you sneaking her secret jam for yourself.
There is at least one coaster with a launch on a airtime hill :D Pulsar at Walibi Belgium has one. And it is really amazing :)
Mack Rides loops are really good, just look at the new coaster coming to freizeitpark Plohn. That loop is also very circular! Otherwise, good video!
The "jam" is meant to mean moonshine, the reason for that is because Thunder Road and White Lightning both had moonshine themes and the Carolina's was a big hot bed for illegal moonshine. The reason they're calling it jam is because that's one of the nicknames for it along with White Lightning and Mountain Dew. You can even see a moonshine still inside the shed.
The Hill launch is something Pulsar in Walibi Belgium also has.
I would take this over Yukon striker any day!
Nah
Yeah, same. It's slower but has a lot more to it, is a lot more unique (especially to America) and has a huge amount of universal appeal. Plus no vests.
@@marcussheen sorry buddy nothing new to this ride the only fun part is the JoJo roll that's it
Cw is my home park by the way so im not bias
Yukon Striker will be good. I wish my home park had a dive coaster.
To those judging the ride on pure stats, let me show you an example of a small ride that packs a punch. I give you: Lightning Run at Kentucky Kingdom. Only 100 feet tall and going 55 mph, but it packs more of a punch than most hyper coasters I've been on. Hell, it's a more intense ride than Millennium Force to me! =P I haven't had a chance to visit Carowinds yet, but I'm definitely going to be excited to ride this guy once I finally plan a trip there.
The first rule of Granny's jam is you don't ask what's in the jam. A girls got her secrets.
The second rule of Granny's jam is you Do Not ask about the jam.
Vertical loops that are more circular tend to pull more Gs than a clothoid (oval or teardrop shape) style loop.
Copperhead Strike, and other 2019 coasters are looking good.
My first thought when I saw the animation video was that the theme would be kind of similar to Blue Fire - basically we'd see the pressure gauge of the moonshine stills rising into the red, some steam effects, and then you'd launch out with the implication that the barn just exploded.
Then I read the story on the official Carowinds website, and I had the same kind of confusion as to what exactly the story even is.
It’s Moonshine in the jam!
After Carowinds puts this in, I hope that they give Vortex the Rougarou/Patriot floorless treatment. I really think that it’ll make it a much better ride and it would give Carowinds a solid top 5. It’s the way to go.
Great breakdown, Taylor! I wanna' know too.... #WhatsInTheJam grandma?
Tbh, Cedar Fair cares a whole lot about their parks and this looks sick
Finally a lap bar
Am I wrong or is that very small shed pictured at 0:52 in the queue line
I LOVE THIS NEW RIDE, AND CAROWINGS, CLOSE TO HOME AND I DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR AIRLINES TKS.
I'm pretty sure the name is a reference to the copper stills Granny is using for the secret ingredient, which I'm pretty sure is moonshine.
i love mack rides, they are my second favorite manufacture. Of course my favorite manufacture is rmc
Slinky Dog Dash is super fun and it only has a top speed of 33 miles per hour, so this should be great.
I don't think it's jam. I think it's moonshine lmao!!! I am looking forward to riding this! Thank you, Taylor for your very in depth analysis, as always!!!
They're putting this in because it's cost effective. I doubt we'll see similar rides at other parks in the chain however since only 4 parks ever get coasters in the cedar fair chain anymore and they're almost always the same four with two getting rides one year while the other two get rides the next year alternating in such a way where the rest of the chain gets the shaft as a result.
The theme is set to trying to find her recipe. You go looking for her jam recipe but what you find is a bit better... Her secret is her moonshine ;). That’s why the snake is made of copper piping. In the shed you can see the copper moonshine still. I think she finds you and that’s why you have to launch out of there. It’s located in blue ridge section of the park which is themed after the blue ridge parkway (a mountainous region).. and we all know the stereotype of southern-mountainous hicks and their moonshine.
Was really hoping for more of a blue fire kinda ride. Little disappointed but it'll still be fun and a nice addition to their lineup
National Coaster News blue fire is disappointing, so the fact that this looks way better than blue fire is great!
I like the color scheme it's really... striking to me.
The Coaster Nerd hahaha your so punny
Pulsar in walibi belgium has also that weird kind of launch
The water park area where part of Thunder Road was hasn't been open too long. Guess they didn't get as many water park customers as they thought when they expanded.
Never clicked a video so fast in my life
Is it weed? Lmao 😂 I heard a theory that it's supposed to be Granny's moonshine.
Hey Taylor, What would you think if Top Thrill Dragster or Kingda Ka had an inverted top hat?
*train is at the top of an inverted tophat*
"It looks like it will valley at any second"
You misunderstanding the theme. The shed that granny supposedly makes her jam in is copperhead infested, she is actually secretly making Moonshine. Thats reason the copperhead logo is copper pipes mixed with a snake.
