    I remember being at Scarowinds the year before Copperhead opened and noticed a part of one of the mazes, Cornstalkers, was missing. There used to be a henhouse with animatronic chickens in it. Copperhead opens, and lo and behold, there's the henhouse with the animatronic chickens. They really thought we wouldn't notice.

      I think they need a wood coaster, as a successor to Thunder Road. Obviously it couldn’t be as large as Thunder Road, with Copperhead Strike taking up some of the room, but it would still be nice to see.

    I appreciate the video. Copperhead Strike was the replacement for Thunder Road. BOTH are themed to moonshine runners from the Carolinas. Cedar Fair wanted to keep a Carolina theme. Also, if you present yourself as a big draw then low capacity rides are a good thing. Think Dollywood or Disney World. They have mega low capacity rides but they put butts in the seats. That's what we want at Carowinds. I'm a homer. Grew up 20 minutes away and have been going to Carowinds since 1989 and I always loved every visit. Its just really fun to see what they've been doing for the past 10 years. Kudos to Cedar Fair for seeing what we've always known: Carowinds is money.

    Copperhead Strike is a ride with the theme of old moonshine runners. Look up the song Copperhead Road.
    Also, I think that Copperhead Strike is great coaster for Carowinds. It’s got a small foot print, with a massive space to fill from Thunder Road. I’m thinking that they’re going to be building more coasters around Copperhead Strike, which will help offset the low capacity.

    I visited Carowinds this past weekend and had the opportunity to ride Copperhead Strike. I love the set-up and theme of the ride. The worst part of riding roller coasters for me is going up. I rode Fury 325 one time and will most likely not ride it again. I couldn't even ride The Intimidator after riding Fury. So the fact that you don't have to go up was appealing. I still had to work my way up to Copperhead Strike though. I rode my favorites; The Vortex and Carolina Cyclone to warm up. I also finally got to ride Night Hawk after a two hour wait. Back to Copperhead Strike, My nephew was riding it with me and somehow we ended up in the Fast Lane. We just stayed there and got in queue. We were nervous and then there ended up being a 15 minute delay due to a train getting stuck in the second launcher. People were leaving but I said we're here now and we're riding it. We got on the train and pulled the harness down. I was not liking that harness but oh well. That "jojo roll" when you first hit the track, OMG!! I just knew I was going fall out of the seat and the ground was right there. The scene inside the barn was a lot to take in all at once. Once we launched and went through the first loop with the hang time, I knew I was done the rest of the ride. My eyes were closed and all I kept saying was "oh my God, oh my God". It is crazy how tight the track is. I now know why the harness is like that. They want you to think you're going to fall out. In the end, I loved It and will definitely ride Copperhead Strike again.

  • @wrench1674
    @wrench1674 3 года назад +5

    I'd say it was needed considering how top heavy carowinds is with fury, intimidator and afterburn. It's a good complimentary coaster for those other 3, because after those three i couldnt tell you what the best ride is especially with thunder road being taken out, had thunder road not gotten taken out there would be a good top 5. that being said cedar fair has consistently said they wanna make carowinds the cedar point of the south so i expect some better rides to come along and build up the coaster profile of carowinds

    Good review. I liked the ride too. Good addition to the park, but another world class coaster is needed. Maybe Cedar Fair will rip out that stupid Dinosaurs Alive thing and use that space for a good GCI Woodie or something similar in about 3 years.

    Copperheads are some of the least aggressive venomous snakes in America, with a low venom toxicity. Deaths from Copperhead bites are extremely rare. Just me dreaming this up, but perhaps "Copperhead Strike" could be a parallel between the coaster, and a mildly dangerous snake bite. That could signal the ride not being as intense as Intimidator & Fury 325 & others. I do love the name!

    I rode this for the first time today. Although I totally get what your saying in terms of a YES/NO for the park, but honestly considering how they were moving the lines and the new themed sections…this is for sure a perfect addition to park in the Carolinas to get gaining visitors.

    Went last week and they had a bunch of stuff closed, inluding Fury. But it was great actually, I ended up marathoning this and Intimidator which I never would've done otherwise and yeah this is a genuinely fun coaster! I just can't help but get a kick out of it, even if it's not the craziest out there. It's killer for GP too, I often see as long and longer lines there than Fury. I know how most thoosies feel about the GP but I love seeing people enjoying coasters, also you know, that kinda is what guarantees the perpetuity of amusement parks altogether so you better be grateful for GP pleasers. Anyway, on the ride, I also went yesterday and rode it in the afternoon heat when it was running good and quick and it was surprisingly intense. I actually greyed out pretty good, and the airtime was incredible!

      Sorry for the necro but honestly any enthusiasts who have issues with the GP are honestly silly, the GP are the only reason stuff like Copperhead was even built, if only enthusiasts went to parks, every park would have closed down ages ago.

  • @pproteinc

    Carowinds is my home park. A little on the theme. You are on granny farm snooping around to find her award winning jam she wins at the fair and notice she also makes moonshine when you are a attack by copperhead snakes she uses to protect the area. However it’s a play on the word cooperhead. Cooperhead machines are the machines that are used to make moonshine hence the metal snake signage. In the barn it’s basically you being caught by grandma and her sons and she telling them to catch you which leads to the chase through the farm hence the car looking like chevys.

    I live 20 minutes away from Carowinds and always get season passes. I’ve been to many other cedar fair parks and always wanted a heavy hitter like a hyper coaster at Carowinds. So when they made Intimidator it was awesome for us to finally receive one of the big ones. Plus it fit North Carolina because it was themed with NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt In mind. Both Carolina legends. And of course opened the door for the future of the coaster wars with the emergence of Fury. Copperhead was like Maverick. It wasn’t built for speed or height, but rather for the experience.

    Mack Rides actually builds some "intensely" accelerating roller coasters like the Blue Fire Megacoaster, which accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, which is pretty intense for my taste. Granted, it's not as intense as Dodonpa.

    My guess on the theme before you read out the actual theme: During alcohol prohibition in the 1920s the first turbocharged engines were developed to outrun the law, my guess is the car theming of the train is a reference to that, or to escaping an exploding moonshine still (which makes sense as a theme in the South if executed correctly)

    -The first time I was on, I got on around 11:30am and I thought it was really solid but I was a little underwhelmed.
    -The second time I got on, I still thought it was fun and all but I wasn't sure about it.
    -The third time I got on, it was probably around 4:30pm and by then it got warmed up in the day and WOW what a difference. It might be my favorite ride in the park. Yes, Fury is probably the better coaster BUT a warmed up Copperhead Strike after 4pm is probably my favorite ride at Carowinds.

    I was just at Carowinds on Tuesday evening and Wednesday all day (spring break week). The 2 times I rode it on Tuesday it had a 20 minute wait (night ride was great) and I noticed the dispatcher always announced "15 seconds to stack" and the rest of the ops hustled to get the train dispatched before the third train came into the break run. On Wednesday I rode it twice both with 45 minute waits and I noticed that the dispatcher never made the stack announcement and the rest of the ride ops took their time checking harnesses. What a difference of 2 crews. Great ride though and I cant wait until the comparisons between ICON and Copperhead Strike.

    So Carowinds is my homepark and I’ve been in the Carolinas over a decade now. So copperhead is a play on name. Moonshine is a staple down South and mountain region and the machinery used to make is made of copper and called copperhead but of course you can market moonshine so they added the notion of copperhead snake that is prevalent here. Which is why the snake is made of copper. The Jam kind of throws everybody off but grand makes jam however secretly makes moonshine as well and uses copperhead snakes to protect her land. The preshow is rider lurking through the property and grandma catches you and tells her two sons to catch which ends up in a car chase off the property hence the 50 model car for train and the launch flooring it to get away.

    Just here yesterday and rode copperhead for the first time. It is a great ride but in a very low attendance day the line still stays long and crawls. Fury and intimidator we're walk on all day. It's a great addition but to make it a real destination it's gone need another major attraction like redoing their hurler into an RMC or some kind of monster woody. Even another B&M hyper. Alot of the rides are still small. Nighthawk and vortex show their age. And other than their novelty aren't great rides. Especially considering I waited just as long for nighthawk as I did copperhead. Afterburn one of the top coasters is tucked away in the back behind camp snoopy. One more major attraction and this park will be complete. But with still the recent edition of fury we might be waiting a while will we see our next big coaster.

    Icon at BPB has fantastic operations. Because it doesn't have seatbelts, trains are often dispatched every 30-45 seconds unless a seat swap is required. Icon apparently only has a theoretical throughput of around 1,070pph, but the line moves fairly quickly when the ride runs a 3 train service. :)

      @@ElToroRyan I forgot to mention that Icon's ride ops trained on Blue Fire to run the ride and were taught how to operate it on Europa Park's high dispatching standards, which is likely the reason behind it's great operations. I've never had to queue more than 45 mins for Icon on a very crowded day. The only downside is that Icon's back seats are larger to accommodate for larger guests so seat swaps happen occasionally which can slow the operations, but it usually isn't too bad. ;D

    Does anyone know if that theoretical capacity includes the seatbelt additions? Or is that just Mack's default theoretical capacity?

    • @ElToroRyan
      @ElToroRyan  5 лет назад +1

      Each coaster has its own unique theoretical capacity that basically just means when a train can physically dispatch based on the block setup. So load times aren’t really a part of that calculation.

    Granny has Copperhead *Snakes* in her yard so people would stay away. The reason she wanted people to stay away is because the ‘Award Winning Jam’ she was making turned out to be moonshine.
    Now for the ride part of the storyline:
    As you take a slow and sneaky entrance into Granny’s shed to find out the secret ingredients she uses to makes her Jam. As you realize her “Jam” is actually Moonshine, it’s too late. Granny has spotted you, and so have the snakes. As they both come after you, you make a grand escape out of that shed, and you traverse the track of the ride.

    Carowinds is my home park. I can say, it appears operations did improve over time. Granted, I didn't time any dispatches.
    My ranking is much different than the norm. I would put Copperhead Strike and After Burn in my number 1 and 2 spots. They are so close, I can't say which is one or two. That of course puts Fury further down my list than most others.

    A small park? Carowinds is 400 acres with 14 roller coasters, the 5th largest attendance in the CF chain, and soon to be only the second CF park to offer an on site hotel.

    I went on do dodonpa 14 years ago when I was like 10. The operators trolled our train by counting down to the launch 3... 2... 1... And then nothing. And then we launched.
