- Six Flags Great Adventure just announced a new coaster for 2021, and its sure to be a good one! Jersey devil is the latest and greatest ride to come out of Rocky Mountain Construction, and is one of their famous Raptor tracks. The ride will be 130 feet tall with a max speed of 58 mph over 3,000 feet of track. This is my full analysis and breakdown of what you can expect when it opens next year!

Quick correction, this supposedly can run with 4 trains on the track at one time instead of 3! Will it ever run with all 4 at once though? We will have to wait and see...
If the ops are anything like great america, they could have 8 trains and still only get 24 riders per hour.
If it’s a constantly moving loading/unloading station, they could, but GA ride ops aren’t Disney level

Great Adventure has a great track record of running the max amount of trains the ride can handle. Even on slower days nitro and Bizarro typically run 3 trains.
We went in June on a weekday before the school year was done, park was dead. A lot of waiting was for people getting booted off cause they couldn’t fit in the restraints but I imagine it gets worse the busier they are, but I hope for the best

Kingda ka has one but they don’t use it. What’s the point of building one if they never use it? I bet they just use it to store trains and not actual dispatches.
they would need a block brake every like 20 seconds tho :/ and i really think something like that would kind of kill the ride experience
They stopped using both when Zumajaro came.
They used to use it sometimes but since zumamjaro making them wait there’s no reason to use it
You never know they didn't show the station during the animation

Actually, there might be a way to make ads on a coaster good: have it fully themed to whatever they’re advertising, with *a backstory that justifies the theming.* Unfortunately, it’s Six Flags and not Cedar Fair that puts ads on coasters, so it’s very unlikely we’ll ever see such a thing be attempted. Candymonium is kinda close to it, tho.

There were only two things that six flags great adventure was looking for:
1. An original roller coaster
2. Something unique
And this new roller coaster fits in with those two things perfectly!
i’m very happy to say my expectations were exceeded. i was keeping my hopes low and expected a green lantern sit-down conversion. but god damn this is more than i even imagined
Gavin Oshman regardless we have the original. besides this isn’t a layout that would likely be cloned. it’s to big for the other parks so the only ones that could get it are SFMM and SFGAm which i don’t see happening

@@chase7624 I'd honestly rather see them remove it, put it somewhere that it's needed, and get something like steel curtain to replace great american scream machine. Jersey devil looks cool and all and I know what I just said is pipe dreaming just like thinking about a generation 2.0 GCI with inversions and dueling. However, past that, I would've went for a "east coast racers" with a wacky design crossing over the rapids ride anyday and waited for a better capacity raptor for a big park.
The theming is of the folklore of the legendary creature called the Jersey Devil that is said to inhabit a forest in southern New Jersey.
The same thing the NJ Devils are named after. BTW, if you Google "NJ devil coaster" you'll get links for NJ devils branded drink coasters lol

Not some random forest, but the Pine Barrens, which literally borders the park. In fact, it borders it on the side where the coaster is going to be built. That's pretty genius.
Still, it's odd that something so steeped in NJ history and so close to the park hasn't already gotten a ride with its name on it before now. Especially after a memorably-bad episode in Season 1 of the X-Files brought this legend back to life.

Difference is this one has a much cooler name, not to mention a badass logo. Much better than 'Total Mayhem', and certainly much better than 'Looping Dragon' (El Diablo's original intended name).

But yeah this one they will stick with jersey devil. Otherwise they wouldn't have wasted our time thinking it might've been riddler or two-face only to reveal darth maul coaster I MEAN "jersey devil."
Jersey Devil is our local legend and something all Jersey kids growing up. It’s awesome they went with this theme and name.

also gives them the option to topper track or total i-box/iron horse "El Toro" in the distant future since they have quite a poor track record with maintenance and wooden roller coasters.

The theming in the line is most likely gonna be a recycled Devil statue from El Diablo(because they took that down) and the statue you can see is in the back area near nitro

It is going to be a 4 Train operation. And there will be themeing of the Legend Of The Jersey Devil. Great Adventure kept the Jersey Devil Statue that was made for the now removed "EL Diablo" Loop Coaster as well.
I am so freaking excited right now, I'm doing backflips and cartwheels (no, not really). This'll be my first chance to ride an RMC, and a strong candidate for my 30th coaster credit. I can't wait!

Raptors usually take about 2-3 weeks to build (vertical construction that is) Once that first support is bolted in its gonna fly up faster than KingDa ka takes you from 0-128mph
Keep in mind that it's supposedly much bigger than the original raptors, so it may take a bit longer

Thank you for this news!! This coaster looks beautifully designed, but as a former resident of South Jersey (my family is still there) I think design wise more could have been done to pay tribute to the Jersey Devil legend 😭 maybe a space with history of the folklore while people wait in line and I imagine it all green or grey sort of moving through trees/forest...think this is really cool though and can’t wait to see the final coaster. I wonder who they worked with to develop the theme. It’s definitely still early. State historians should be contacted lol I’m taking this so seriously but what a big moment for Six Flags. This channel is the BEST!

Awesome breakdown and analysis, and I agree with you, this looks like a lot of fun. I haven't had the chance yet to ride one of the Raptors, so I'm very much looking forward to this.
As for the name, I commented on some site that only Southern parks name coasters after their state: Texas Giant, Carolina Cobras, Georgia Scorcher, etc. I specifically mentioned that El Toro wasn't named "Jersey Devil," only to get a lot of responses saying that "Jersey Devil" would be a great name for a coaster as SFGAd. Maybe someone at Six Flags was listening.
I don't mind the DC ip's around, I wouldn't mind if the next ride was by Joker, harley quinn was a better theme for the neighbor coaster. Jersey Devil even teased both two-face and riddler. WE REALLY NEEDED a coaster based on OUR NJ LEGEND though. So it's great, even if I am going to call it darth maul to mess with people anyway.
Regardless of 2020 chaos, or because of it, whether by joker or literally where they had a huss enterprise, they should get a zamperla endeavour (riddler's revenge, catwoman's whip?), and fix the kid's section for 2021-2023, with this and that I'd be pretty pleased, especially if like Over Georgia they'd top it off with larson flying scooters.

I can't express how excited I am for this Coaster. GAdv is my US Homepark, If that makes sense for someone living in Europe. But I have Family in NYC, that I visit regularly. Absolutly Love it!
Nœrdy Thugg was my home park I live almost in Canada now. I miss this place so much and as soon as my daughter is 54” tall my family gets a jersey trip to see where their dad is from. So hyped for this ride!

I’ve been waiting for years since I was a young lad for this park to open a roller coaster that would be outstanding, and the day has come. I feel blessed since SFGAD is my home park. Can’t wait!!!

I really want this coaster model to catch on, because, if the footage does not lie, these things are magnificent just to look at, and, from what many say, are even better to ride.

Everyone was upset with maverick having only 12 people. It didn’t turn out that bad due to the double loading station. I really think they should invest in this because it can really help. I rather have a better ride with a longer wait then an eh ride and no line.

The coaster looks AMAZING... I’m very excited! I’m hoping they don’t clear the entire area, because a night ride through the woods there would be incredible... that area of the park is surprisingly very quiet and dark. On another note I feel very old knowing, BEFORE looney toons seaport, being at Adventure rivers, the originally development site...
specifically sitting on the North America Water Slide, Asian Slide Tower and Koala Canyon areas .... These waterslides were “Different”,,, instead of being on the slide directly, you sat clothed in Rafts... a little odd... Koala canyon was really cool, it was a giant splash pad. After that area , you come to Congo rapids... pre bumpers, it was AWESOME, there was also very cool but simple theming, bambo, tribal masks, drum music playing, your circular rafts also went directly under the water falls..... Probably a little dangerous now, looking back at it. Pretty sure the bumpers were added because of another park having a boat capsize..... anyways!
If you really wanted to market this as the “Jersey Devil,” should’ve put Snooki’s face on the front. Now that’s scary. 😂😂😂😂

Went on this on 7/19/21 was a pretty cool ride and much needed for this park as I've been going to this park alot I have been going here every year for the last 10 years and always gets better every time I go

Pretty disappointed with that first drop m. It’s only 130 feet but besides that this is looking amazing. I feel bad for the other sixflags parks though. Besides over Texas, they got pretty crappy new rides for 2020.

I am so freaking excited to finally get a new coaster at SFGA. Was hoping for an RMC raptor but didn't think the capacity would be enough for this park. The trains seem to fix that. Speaking of the trains, they look great! I'm thrilled this is coming to my home park and I'll be there on the first day!
I have not been to the park in 2yrs, medical finances and a lack of interesting additions. I had said to myself when we get something to bring me back I will get my pass again. 2020 will be the year I make my return, and I am excited to see how much the park has changed since 2017. I know its not much of a layoff but I am also looking forward to Wonder Woman too. This is also my home park 😀

I think it's great that this coaster was named and themed after the Jersey Devil! It's about time! Maybe after they realize what a success it will be, they will open up a Jersey Devil themed section in the park!

As this is my home park I am proud to say this looks absolutely amazing, and that turnaround could be really good if the pacing is strong. You might get whipped around it. But the drops on this ride in the back are going to be fantastic. Your going to get whipped over

I rode it on the last day of pass-holder previews and it was fantastic, it broke down when I was in line but it was a great coaster, the restraints didn’t staple me at all, it was actually hella loose and I was a bit nervous XD.
Long story short, it’s a great ride.

Let's see, I remember opening day for lightning loops ! Freefall , The chiller , Rolling Thunder backwards ,ect. I also remember the last day of the Haunted castle . It's burned into my mind . When you witness something Like that, it stays with you a long time !
I am glad to see a good sized legit coaster showing up at a Six Flags park. That being said, both west coast racers and Maxxforce look incredible although everyone seems to complain about the length of Maxx Force. Call me crazy....but ride length is honestly not much of an issue for me. I was at Six flags Magic Mountain 2 weeks ago and my second favorite ride there...is Full Throttle. It isn't long...it isn't the fastest launch, it's layout is uninspiring, it's Tallest Loop in the world status has already been surpassed but you know what....it is an awesome ride. My next favorite rides are honestly intamin Drop Towers and superman...and these are extremely short.

Because its a raptor, if you make a ride as high as jersey devil you can probably get like 15 inversions if you did inversions every second to keep it fast, or made a twisty layout which would seem cool. Jersey devil im excited for though
In my opinion, I say that this Great Adventure will always be better than Magic Mountain. I say this because even though MM has more coasters, most of them are pointless. And when I say that, I don't mean that they're bad, but they only have like 2 or 3 good coasters. Great Adventure has an amazing top 5 IMO and also, we have El Toro. That just makes this park the number 2 or 1 Six Flags park because we can't forget about Great America.
My opinion is the exact opposite of yours, particularly the Top 5 coasters at each park. Jersey Devil Coaster will indeed close the gap between them but not as much as you seem to anticipate. Full Throttle is vastly superior to Kingda Ka - along with the few other reruns at SFGAV - if that's what you mean by "pointless". All things considered, Great America is hardly worth mentioning in this instance. No smoke, just sayin'.

If magic mountain scraps viper, they should put in a custom t-rex like this but bigger and better. RMC is the best company around for coasters by a mile, so it's good to see a custom raptor finally!
I like how RMC designed the dive loop with that outerbank turn on the top. It gives such a different feel compared to the classic B&M dive.

YESSSSSSSSS FINALLY SIX FLAGS GETTING THE RMC TREATMENT!!! Thank god that's a perfect spot to put it. Wish it was an RMC RMC but I'll take the single rail. Can't wait thanks!! So so so damn excited. Thankfully its not DC themed.
4 trains at once...throughput might not be as big of an issue as I originally thought. In terms of the ride being taller and thus requiring more drawn out elements...I think it will be fine because the train is moving faster. Longer trains=more weight = trains will have more inertia and therefore can better maintain speed throughout the layout. More speed = rides will likely be able to experience the same or similar forces as they would on tighter elements found on Wonder Woman. I think this will be at least equally as good in terms of experiencing quick and sudden transitions (although this seems to be more about airtime than turns.)
I will actually want to go to my old home park in 2020!
Every time I visit NJ I don't bother going, and haven't in 6 years. I kinda hate the place and having ridden KK and Toro enough... but this will drag me in.
Railblazer was insane, hope this keeps its intensity but just longer and bigger. If so this will rival for my #1

Really excited for the 2020 coaster at my local park.... oh wait there isn’t one for Magic Mountain because they just started building the one for 2019. All the other parks have their 2019 coaster built and running.
I think this looks amazing! And at my home park too! I love how both of my home parks are getting awesome new rides for 2020. Candymonium and Jersey Devil. The GP aren’t gonna know what to think of this. Better for us.
