It doesn't matter what people say, it's the fact you took a neglected piece of history and brought it back to a respectable condition, which is more than the perfect people have done, while they ride around in their new foreign garbage, keep up the good work
Couple of tips, when using a wool pad also use a cleaning spur to keep the product from building up on the pad which might cause burn thru, also throw a blanket over the interior to keep the product spattering all over parts of the car you dont want, overall it looks good, great job!
Dan: Any time I have an issue with swirl marks in my clear (especially a dark color), I'll do my wet sanding and throw it out in the summer sun for the rest of the day. Since wet sanding "opens" the clear, the heat of the sun will "tighten" it back up. The end result is it buffs easier and the swirl marks come out a lot easier. 🙃
Cool video! What you call orange peel on the trunk was surface contamination. It came from not cleaning the surface quite good enough prior to paint application. Live and learn. Keep the videos coming!
DAN Thats the point of RUclips. Do it YOUR WAY! ( I have seen vehicles at dealerships, with flaws) Your vision, your, dream, your approach, (in spite of the very minor flaws, because nothing in this world is absolutely perfect anyhoo)YOUR VIDEO; YOU tube!! KEEP ROCKIN MAN THE CAR LOOKS AWESOME!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Am I glad to see Ol Tractor Red again! What a rewarding episode. That’s some paint job, it just gets better and now that the paint and clear coat has pretty well cured your sanding and buffing is taking your work to a much higher-level. It’s really good and getting so much better.
Dont Stress Dan you did a spectactular job!!! most of us are envious of your work! Love this channel and your inspiration to us all!!! Keep it up and dont quit. Love your work!
I'm glad my best friend was a body man....we traded off mechanic work for body work. He always talked about curing, humidity, temperture while painting.
Agreed...but when I got old I learned that being able to see helps a lot...haha. I can't spray a car worth a $hit anymore ...well I can, but my glasses get fogged with overspray and then I can't see $hit...get runs and dry spots both...so I gave it up (painting). damn it! haha...but hey I can spray primer like a pro haha...just poor it on until I run out haha. Edit: "Bondo in a spray gun"
The good thing about your car like I was told when I did mine it's how you feel when you're finished, it's looks good by the way you're doing a good job, you'll get better with practice. You might want to use a spray bottle with soap in it and use a squeegee instead of a rag it cleans and dries the water faster looks great!
Wish I'd known about this back in the 90s. I painted my 72 F100 with Van Sickle Ford blue tractor paint and it looked pretty good. It did have orange peel and I could have made it look really good!
Way to make your car look a little better. Paint correction takes time to learn and to become proficient but your effort yielded good results, job well done.
Yep..had fun..you are always willing to give it a try..its meant to be driven..you did n do an awesome job..now do something fun today n everyday..thanks
Your doing a great job it's all about learning no one is perfect and there know better feeling then knowing you did it yourself thanks for another great video hope to see you on the power tour next year
Looking way better. It's nice to see you learn and not be afraid to make a few mistakes. Not only are you learning but we are as well. Thanks for doing what you do. Kevin
I love it. I once painted a Fl Harley using Kraylon spray can. Followed all the rules of doing a good paint job and I got a great paint job. I did a 100 dollar paint job for about 450
Dan if the paint is still soft it still has solvents in it. When you buff it and wax it you are sealing those solvents in. The best thing to do with enamel paint is to wet sand it with fine sandpaper and let it set until the solvents have evaporated out. You can not hurry anenamel
The title of this paint job could be, "We never have time to do things right, but we always have time to do them again." LOL. I love how you did things so unorthodoxed. Really interesting.
I absolutely love ALL of your work and videos! It is nice to see you make some very nice looking cars for a respectable amount of money. I envy your dedication to keeping at it. I am thankful that you are sharing what you have learned and shown us. Your guidance and honesty is a welcome thing indeed. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
I feel for ya' Dan. I just spent 2 days wet sanding and polishing the trunk lid on my '67 Red LeMans. I could have sanded it and re-cleared it twice in that time. But it turned out great. I used 3000 grit 3M Trizact for the final sand before buffing. Thanks again for sharing your Garage Time with us.
I like the polishing . With what you are working with it you are doing good! Meguairs MT300 is a dual action polisher that you can use that doesn’t burn paint or leave swirl marks! Always enjoy the videos ! Keep up the good work!
Hello there cowboy here again so you want to be a polishers lol it takes a while to get the feel it's real easy to burn through a couple of hints a little bit of compound goes a long way also put the clothes away till you're done with the compound also watch your angle you want to float the pad at a slight angle keeping a larger point of contact with the pad , the get a good Polish and a clean pad to finish polishing out the clear coat to a nice luster try watching a good video on cut and buff you'll see first very careful sanding with multiple grits then compound stop wash it good to get all the compound off the surface only then Polish it keep trying you'll figure out what works kinda and clearly what doesn't no matter what pad you're using with whatever cream a light touch don't bear down ever you'll find out way to quickly why all the best be patient with it as always remember be safe healthy and happy God Bless 🤠
I think the best way to learn is just to get out there and do it, especially when it comes to polishing. Obviously a person has to know the basics and have a general idea what to do, but in the end, experience is how you get better. The car looks great Dan!
You could buff the plastic part of your trunk badge too, & make that look nice. Same as you buff stainless trim, just takes a lighter touch so you don't build too much heat. I buff all kinds of plastic & plexi-glass stuff & lenses.
I wipe it then use my air gun to get it dry quick...to see where it needs more sanding. Others just wipe it then move to another area while the wetness dries. Both work great.
One thing about it, is that, if it does go south, You can always respray it, because it will already be sanded. You wouldn't be out other than the paint. But I don't think that will be needed. I have faith, Also when I was a young boy, my father would paint cars part time. I would help sand while my father would polish the paint. He never had any problems using basically the same paint as you. This was in the 60's. Good Luck. Ronnie. You could use a couple of drops of dish soap. will help sand easier, like a lube.
It's amazing what a good buffer and pad will do. You could dab a little more clear into those low spots to fill them up, then wet sand and buff them again.
My man ou put enough compound on that corner of the decklid to do the entire car. No worries though lol I wish I was there to help you out. Keep doing what your doing. I enjoy watching your channel.
I always found it harder to buff the panels and get out all the scratches when I hand sanded. Wool pad works but the burn thru risks are higher. Look into 3M products for your DA sander that use a " Hookit" interface pad. 1500 grit, 3000 grit and finish with the wet 3m Trizact 5000 grit and use a foam pad on your buffer. Finish up with your DA polisher and some 3m swirl mark remover. As always, Love the Vids! Keep it up
That paint cleaned up nice!! I have to agree with the other comments about wide whites... You can always do it the budget way, white rubberized sealant on them. Lasts forever and costs like $20... May make for a good episode too
Your doing a great job 👏. I can't give you any advice. I worked in a body shop when I got out of the navy. After 3 months I got fired. The boss said I'm no good at body work and he could prove it and I believed him. So the next 40 years I stuck to wrenching. Shazam!
I worked at a body shop after retiring from the Army and my boss told me basically the same thing, I just told him he's getting the quality of work according to my pay level. The next day I bought in a fender I fixed at home on a project I was doing and pointed to the car I was working on at work and said "$12 an hour" and then pointed to the fender I brought in and said "$20 an hour", guess what... I got a pretty good raise.....
Great video Dan. For what you have into the ole girl. She's gorgeous! Enjoy it, she's better than a lot of people own! The whole series of this car build is freaking awesome bro! It falls in the category of a bumper sticker I seen. "Not bought, built"! Keep the great content Dan! Enjoy the channel. Keep On Motoring Brother! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The car looks great! From its humble beginnings to today, you have turned the '57 into a great car. A little orange peel is nothing. I didn't put enough hardener for a paint job once and it took 3 or 4 months for the paint to 'dry'. Sucked. It was so soft, days later you could still leave fingerprints in the paint. That was an embarrassing lesson learned. I was glad it wasn't on one of my hot rods and didn't even try to correct the flaws in the paint.
great job Dan, I had a car painted in 2 pac base color then clear and then 2000 sanded the whole car and polished it to a mirror finish. Defiantly the way to get the WOW factor but jeez does it take time
Good to see you putting in the effort to put the shine on,not typically what we get to see. A way to lock trunk into a decent work position without it flopping would really help. Such a big change over the course of a year. I’d wreck it for sure!
Meguiars dual action MT 300 is a great polisher that doesn’t burn paint or spins as fast ! You can purchase a kit with different pads! But anyways you did a great job considering what you were working with! Keep up the great work! Always enjoying the videos!
Took me over 40 hours to do my car and it was not a convertible. Also put a couple drops of detergent in your sanding water and it makes life easier. The results are well worth the effort afterwards.
Think that car would look great with whitewalls on it.
I second that.
ooooooooo yes agreed...always like white-walls.
I agree ☝️
What Brent said lol.
Gangster White Walls
I'm completely stunned seeing Dan the ratty hotrod, crappy finish guy obsess over the paint finish😮 I like it!
😂🤣👍
That's why he doesn't you start with one thing then something else because what ya did is better than the other part, until it's all perfect
next thing you know hes gonna start hanging boyd coddington posters around the shop lol
It doesn't matter what people say, it's the fact you took a neglected piece of history and brought it back to a respectable condition, which is more than the perfect people have done, while they ride around in their new foreign garbage, keep up the good work

Use a blow gun and hit the trigger and spin the pad, while you blow it clean and dry at the same time!
Dan: Any time I have an issue with swirl marks in my clear (especially a dark color), I'll do my wet sanding and throw it out in the summer sun for the rest of the day. Didn’t know that, awesome!
Now you know why it costs 10.000 for a good paint job. Lot's of hours. Lookin good Dan!
Some of the SEMA cars can easily have $100k in body and paint. Especially now with prices. PPG high build primer is over $400 for a gallon kit.
You are certainly a “Jack of all Trades” when it comes to your vehicles!! Keep up the great work!! The trunk lid came out awesome. Cheers!! 😎
Its like a boss I had told me once, "If you don't ever screw anything up it's only because you weren't working". Looking good.
Cool video!
What you call orange peel on the trunk was surface contamination. It came from not cleaning the surface quite good enough prior to paint application. Live and learn. Keep the videos coming!
The best thing about what you do is that every car is a learning experience. In the end you come out a better mechanic.

Yer gettin much gooder since your first 4 door to 2 door conversion.
Keep up the improving!
I love this 57, and the color is really coming to life. Now just enjoy it!

Would never have dreamed that you would become...Mur Jr. and turn out such a fabolous piece of detail work.
Dont Stress Dan you did a spectactular job!!! most of us are envious of your work! Love this channel and your inspiration to us all!!! Keep it up and dont quit. Love your work!
What I like the most is that you share the good and the bad you show it all

This video was fascinating, I have a 63 Morris that has been brush-painted and I need to get the paint smoother, so I will go over it with the buffer.
What a difference. Looks really good.
Dan the car is looking great , i thing the moon caps are nice and some chrome trim rings would set the wheels off really well .
THANKS DD CREW FOR THIS VIDEO, VERY EDUCATIONAL AND FUN TIPS FOR IMPROVING A PAINT JOB. GOOD JOB!!!!!
Love the shirt very smart catch some sun read good book 😁😁😁💟
Way to make your car look a little better. Paint correction takes time to learn and to become proficient but your effort yielded good results, job well done.
Great job Dan!!! Now just a little yellow flame 🔥 at the bottom of the front wheel wells. It will look fantastic
You probably have the coolest driveway in town!
Its all about the end result youre looking for/ satisfied with. Content is King...
Looks good Dan! Going with wool pad is the way to go. Keep up the good work
Yep..had fun..you are always willing to give it a try..its meant to be driven..you did n do an awesome job..now do something fun today n everyday..thanks

Well Dan. Cut down that orange peel real nice. Nice finish smooth shiny 👍🏻😎
Just gorgeous great job 👏
Looking good boss! Polishing really makes the difference when we are painting in "less than perfect" conditions! Cheers from here....
I feel for ya' Dan. I just spent 2 days wet sanding and polishing the trunk lid on my '67 Red LeMans. I could have sanded it and re-cleared it twice in that time. But it turned out great. Hey Dan , you did it right.
Keep up the good work as long as you keep trying that is how you learn and obviously you are not afraid to learn love you guys
Made it shine like a frost back's heel. Love your videos!

Looks pretty good Dan
Dan put masking over the gap between any 2 panel then buff as normal remove tape lightly glaze area
I think the best way to learn is just to get out there and do it, especially when it comes to polishing. Obviously a person has to know the basics and have a general idea what to do, but in the end, experience is how you get better. The car looks great Dan!
That,...um,...um,...driver door fitment is something special. 😳👌
You could buff the plastic part of your trunk badge too, & make that look nice. Same as you buff stainless trim, just takes a lighter touch so you don't build too much heat. I buff all kinds of plastic & plexi-glass stuff & lenses.
Dan you the man.
Nicely done sir.
This car is shining and thanks for teaching me how to wet sand
No fear Dan strikes again !!! Awesome job Dan!!!! Looks awesome
well hello Dan . when wet sand sanding you have to use a squeegee to wipe off the excess see what you're doing
I wipe it then use my air gun to get it dry quick...to see where it needs more sanding. Others just wipe it then move to another area while the wetness dries. Both work great.

Dan, worst case is you could sand it with about 600 spot in the color and reclear the panel. Looks really good. Andy
This. Basically adding a flow coat. Would cover quite well.
It's amazing what a good buffer and pad will do. You could dab a little more clear into those low spots to fill them up, then wet sand and buff them again.
You could spill a jug of javex on the paint and it still looks better then anything I drive. Well done Sir!
That finish is amazing! That tractor paint does the trick with its thickness and lustre!
Looks great Dan 👍👍
Looks great!
Rock on Dan , looks great man !
My man ou put enough compound on that corner of the decklid to do the entire car. No worries though lol I wish I was there to help you out. Keep doing what your doing. I enjoy watching your channel.

Trunk looks great. 100 percent improvement. Make a nice tool shelf now. 😀
You get there it just takes time
Looks good on camera!
You do what ever makes you happy it's always great time just hanging out love your can do attitude 😁😁😁😁👍
wow,. this car has come a long way! good job!
Dan put liquid soap in your water to prevent paint sticking to the paper and to make the sanding easier
Even a block of hard toilet soap and rub across your wet and dry paper when wet.
Looks really good Dan. Nothing like making a red 57 Chevy look even better. Very nice ✌️😎👍
Nice paint correction Dan.
Hey.. Mur liked it, you can't get any higher praise than that ! Maybe have him over to put you on the right track.
Your doing a great job 👏. I can't give you any advice. I worked in a body shop when I got out of the navy. After 3 months I got fired. The boss said I'm no good at body work and he could prove it and I believed him. So the next 40 years I stuck to wrenching. Shazam!

You're doing great. Takes time to get a feel for it. Nice improvement in appearance and you're learning. That's the fun of it!
I like to start every conversation with: "You know what your problem is..." 😆 As usual, good job Danny Boy!
Hey Guys
I sincerely appreciate the content you upload. Love this car...I am still leaning towards Dannie's 57 as my favourite 😃
Take care 🙂

Nice work Dan !! looks even nicer now , not that I could really notice on here ,good job 👍🏼
I passed by you at Northgate about a week ago that car sure is something to see in person. Nice work!
Definitely l👀king betters 🤙

Excellent job, The question isn't the high price materials....it is the elbow grease...

I wanted to hear you running the buffer in real time every so often.
It still looks good. Another great video 👍👍🇨🇱
MUR would be PROUD !!!
