  • Hi Guys and thanks for watching what will be the second to last video in this series. Today we get on with painting the Spitfire and doing some very light weathering, with a few hints and tips sprinkled in along the way.
I hope you enjoy and look forward to reading your comments.
Take care everyone and stay healthy and safe.
    Cheers, Glen

Thank you for motivating me to start my 1 /72 Airfix Hellcat. Great simple build.

First Junkers Ju 88, Stuka, me 262. There now outstanding video Glenn as always 👍👍 its funny I haven't built an aircraft since i was 16 years old. My nemesis has always been the canopies and kits back then you had to be a Magician to get the dang thing to fit together right. One kit i remember you put the wings together and slide them through the fuselage what a turd. Off track. So I hated canopies because painting back then all we had was enamel paint which look like heck if you had an accident and glue just destroyed it all together i know bla bla bla .fantastic build Glenn looking forward to your next build video. 👍

Hey Clay, all added to the list mate. I was a shocking builder of aircraft as a kid, luckily none have survived to haunt me, but i can remember that none of them ever seemed to fit together properly and i am fairly sure i didn't even know i was supposed to paint parts of the canopies 😉 Early idea is that next build will be the 1/35 Pershing tank as a "Dugong" in a "Halidonia" diorama 👍

You've done a great job on that, it looks really good.
I've seen a comment on another channel from somebody whose Gran used to work in a factory building Spitfires during the war and she said that the camouflage was done by painting brown all over the top surfaces and then spraying green over the top of the brown, using large shaped mats to mask the brown.
I loved the intro, that's one of my favourite films.
I'd like to suggest the Vought F4U Corsair for your WW2 collection, an uncle of mine used to fly them in the NZAF.

Thanks Ian, much appreciated mate! I knew in a fifty fifty guess about what colour to put down first i would get it wrong 😋 Both your suggested planes added to the list mate 👍

Great series of videos, during lockdown I’ve been watching some superb model builds including yours. I’m amazed how techniques have progressed since I was last building models 40 years ago. I wish I had been able to watch something like this when I first started. It’s great watching experts with years of experience creating masterpieces but sometimes you really need to see something a bit more straightforward with tips on how you can improve a basic kit. Many thanks.

Thanks Stuart, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Things have certainly changed and for the better in terms of what we have available to us to help build wonderful kits, no doubt 👍

Hawker Hurricane. I built 1.72 spitfire and messerschmitt 109e (desert cam) when I was 12. I still have them. 35yrs later They are in bits now, but I'm building and painting the 109, spit, and Hurri for my 6 year old. 40 years ago I collected all the 1.72 scale airfix soldiers and airmen. I'm planning on building a small diorama for my son, just like my old man and I did all those years ago.

Hi Ginge, added to the list mate. Sounds great, my boy and i spent months painting LOTR 28mm figures years ago, it was really great spending time at the table doing that with him. Take care, thanks for watching 👍

I liked the part where you washed the undercarriage, as i am new to painting and wanting to learn how to apply effects and weathering i found that very beneficial.
Great video and i now feel a lot confident 👊

Brilliant intro! "...fat old men..." Hey, if the cap fits! Good series this - got me all 'brush nostalgic' for a minute there. Never knew about the vinegar either. On the aircraft front, the Fiat G.55 is a fine looking plane if you wanted an Italian one, and for the Soviets I'd go for a MIG 3. Good stuff. Cheers.

Aircraft you missed out on your list: The Vought Corsair and the FW 190. If you wanted to throw one other iconic WW2 aircraft in there, then the JU 87 would make my list too.
I like what you've done with the Spitfire. Looks really great - I haven't seen a handpainted Spitfire for a while. Looks like you've had a blast with this build, and they've been good vids. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Cygnusx, thanks for the suggested planes I have started a list to keep track 😜 It was a great fun build, a bit challenging using a brush to paint and results clearly not as good as if i have used the air brush, but still really happy with the result, thanks for watching mate 👍

Glen, was or friend Horse in the woods during Goering's visit? Off camera, of course, flooding the place! You did a super job on this build. Inspiring for newcomers to the hobby.

So, 7 other 1/72 iconic WWII fighters. P-51D Mustang, Me-109, FW-190, F4U-1 Corsair, Hurricane, Zero, P-47 Thunderbolt, MiG-3, P-40, Yak-9, F4F Wildcat, F6F Hellcat, Me-262. I think that pretty much covers the major players and their best known fighters. Less iconic choices, P-39 Aircobra, Typhoon, Tempest, Macchi C.205. Have fun choosing!

Thanks DJ, great suggestions and i have added them all to the growing list, I think i will have to put a top 10 suggested list out for the viewers to vote in the top 7 from that, i wont be able to decide on my own, they are all too good 😀

HI Les, thank you. I actually normally build 1/35 armor, this was a real departure for me but i really enjoyed it. I will be doing more aircraft for sure and i have a 1/48 Spitfire in the stash that i am looking forward to getting stuck into 👍
