The aftermarket auto parts industry has grown significantly over the past decade. Increased competition and short lead times have created a demand for faster production methods and techniques. Implementing Smooth-On's vacuum bagging silicone into a resin infusion production method has enabled manufacturers to shorten turn-around time by reducing labor required to tailor the bag and make a part. And because the silicone bag is reusable, the cost of consumables is minimized, if not eliminated.
Making Re-usable Vacuum Bags Offers Several Advantages;
* Reusable Bags Reduces Labor Costs Up To 90%
* Reusable Bags Can Be Used To Quickly Produce Many Parts
* Cured Silicone Rubber Resists Attack from Chemically Harsh Resins
* Heat Resistance up to 500°F / 260°C
* Non-hazardous; No Odor
* Reusable Bag Eliminates Traditional Bag Film Waste

This is an easy approach to making a reusable, high-performance vacuum bag.
The resin infusion channel will save a lot of money in the long run if the part is repeatable; and the ancillary products are minimal in cost also compared to what you would save over the course of years making the same part.
Well done!
Resin does not bond to silicone. Silicone has self-releasing properties which make it suitable for use without peel-ply.
This is very innovative. Hope to one-day become a customer.
The material conforms to the channel and forms the seal. The vacuum forces the bag to conform to the shape of the tool.
This is awesome! It's a great idea and I gotta try it out!
just placed order for the mold materials, really fast shipping and will be calling to get setup with the silicone brush on and everything I'll need soon. really looking forward
Thanks for the order!
+Smooth-On How many times can it be reused?
this is amazing! but I have a question... I'm a student industrial product design in belgium, and i'm making a car model in fiberglas using Resin Vacuum infusion as wel, the ordinary way with fiberglass, peelply, flowmesh and vacuumbag. I understand the whole technique you're explaining here but i still cant get one thing, how come you don't have to use peelply and more specific no flowmesh?! you can find my tutorial and way o work bij searching "Vacuum Resin Infusion Of A Car" here on youtube
We now manufacture and sell the TOPGEAR SilCon 6 machine which is higher output and handles even higher viscosity silicones 1:1 and 10:1 ratio. It has superceeded SilCon mark III and IV and V. Alan . AHC Ltd Uk
Hi! Could you say what`s the music playing background?
These are pre-made and purchased through Reynolds Advanced Materials
hi i have just about everything to order my first batch of brush on but im trying to find /figure out what your useing for the flexible seal profile. could you tell use just what that is called. thanks
This video demonstrates the process of making a reusable silicone vacuum bag that is custom-fit for a particular part. You do not need this custom vacuum bag to fabricate an original part.
interesting, thanks!
onde esta a segunda paret do video ?
Hi! Nice video!
2 questions:
1. What vacuum level does this bag support?
2. Why is second vacuum circuit not used? That is when you pour resin into mold, pressure increases so the construction could be leaked. Or not?

hi wanted to ask if smooth-on supplies the pre made resin runners, runner insert saddle and the flexible seal profile thats used? thanks
Yes, call us for pricing.
I'm looking on your website for prices and information about the Silcon III machine, but cannot find it. Do you still carry it, or maybe it has a different name?
We do carry this machine - for pricing call us directly at 800-381-1733 Here is a link for some basic info: www.smooth-on.com/a132/SilCon-III%3A-Made-to-Spray-%26-Dispense-Silicone/article_info.html
reusable.. how many times?. Isn't the central shell part to thin? I think after 2 or 3 infusions it may cut itself while demolding(?)
It depends on the part, but variations in thickness can be made.
What's the reinforcing cloth you guys used for the resin runner? Stuff looks like cheese cloth but waaayyy better, definitely need some of that.
Contact your nearest Reynolds Advanced Materials, they should be able to help.
What would be the drawback of using the spread on latex instead of spray on ?
Silicone Vacuum Bags are durable & can be re-used time and again resulting in Reduced Labor Costs. Other advantages vs traditional vacuum bagging materials and techniques include:
Fast fabrication time - Silicone vacuum bags are ready for service immediately after full cure.
Reusablility - Reduce or eliminate traditional consumables such as peel-ply and separating film.
Self-Sealing - Eliminates Tacky tape for fast installation onto tool assembly.
Chemical Resistance - Better performance against chemically harsh resins.
Heat Resistance - up to 500°F / 260°C.
а что за треки в ролике?
My question is how this bag is sealed to form? I see there was vacuum channel created but how the bag stick to form?
The vacuum pulls the silicone to the mold and acts as a clamp holding down and sealing it.
WAIT! How can you possibly suggest this process assists to make custom parts when you need the custom vacuum bag to make the custom part but need the custom part to make the custom vacuum bag?
Xerock For making the first custom parts, probably they use regular steps which is by using plastic and double sided tape to make a vacuum bag.
man, if only you could help finding the mesh and seal profiles you are using... such a pain that you don't carry any of it
Can you reach out to our technical help team. They might be able to help you out. www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/ Thanks for watching!
oh, and how is it a bad system?
I have a female mold 1 meter long by appproximately 32 centimeters wide and 20 centimeters deep. I love the idea of using this type of Bag for sealing over the painful vacuum bagging classic approach I am using now. I dont want to learn and do this proceedure on my own. I have enough chores on my pallet taking my time and I certainly do not wish to buy into the equipment for one or two molds i might use it for. So the question is are there any businesses out there, or people whom I could hand over my mold to that i can pay to have this work done???
Thanks for watching MrDrago1954. We do not provide moldmaking services, but we do have a list of moldmakers on our website: www.smooth-on.com/moldmaker/
Pointing out the flaws in bad system design does not make one a troll.
How many time this bag could use
We just made one at work, our first, and were told if handled carefully 200 parts. If handled poorly, 1. but the rep also had us use the reinforcing mesh on the entire mold, not just the edges.
在台灣有你們的代理商嗎。 Is there your agent in Taiwan?
Thanks for watching! A full distributor list can be found here: www.smooth-on.com/distributors/
How often can it be reused?
Number of castings would depend on the resin used, but this is a production mold.
