Right now I'm a JW but I'm leaving the organization. A couple months back during field ministry I inquired about the early editions on the Watchtower and stated that I wanted to see the ones from 1939 through 1945 because I wanted to see what they said and the elders looked mortified that I was curious. Well needless to say these watchtowers are unattainable for me to look at and I was told to visit the Holocaust museum. They claim they have the truth all the time yet are consistently wrong about prophecies and it doesn't really seem to bother them at all because they believe that the GB (some of the being anointed) are the spokesmen for Jehovah. The main reason why I'm leaving is because they tell us to build our relationship with Jehovah and hone our discernment but expect up to abandon logic and rational thinking and then take direction from the GB because they have authority over my relationship with God. 😆 And now the talk were Stephen Lett said "babies are the enemy of God" sealed the deal for me.
Great to hear from you Mike and very interesting to get the perspective from behind the WT curtain. What astounds me about the GB is the luxurious manner in which they dress and the power they wield over people's souls. The truth is they claim to be the Mediator between God and man and even taught Christ is only a Mediator for the Anointed who, in turn are Mediators for the great crowd. The Apostle Paul said "This is a faithful saying worthy of all acceptance, Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am chief" we can go to Christ directly as our Mediator and He can lay his hand on both God and man. @@joha790 I'm 46 and have only been studying with them for 3 year's and have only been a baptized for a year now. I've been thinking about posing a question during the mid-week meeting about them believing that the GB are the spokesmen for God and then calling out Lett and watching them all sweat and scramble to sweep that under the rug. The thing I've found strange with deception isn't that people are able to be deceived and deceive others but it's the ability of people to deceive themselves and continue to do so in denial. I genuinely feel horrible for the people with amazing hearts who have been hijacked and co-opted by this organization and lived a life of boring misery.

The Holy Spirit must have changed the idea of what "The Truth" really is. Oh wait! Holy Spirit doesn't make mistakes. So what were they teaching? We all know now. (And now children are enemies of God???) THATS DEMONIC!! The more I find out the sicker and angrier I get.
They have certainly done an about turn since 1978 when the first personal computers were referred to as a tool of Satan, and were not to be even looked at.
I recall clearly my mother instructing me to burn all her older publications, apparently at the behest of the Society. She had quite a library and the bonfire lasted for some time, mostly because I found myself scanning the pages of each book before burning. Although quite young, I was already up to speed on quite a few JW teachings and some of those paragraphs and illustrations were absolutely not in line with the (then) teachings. Years later (around 1974, I think) there was an explanation for the changes that described the change of direction as being like a sailboat tacking into the wind. It struck me as odd at the time because the general direction of a sailboat tacking is always forward, when they had changed direction completely.
So they quote from people suffering from anxiety who have a negative and uninformed view of the future, they quote these people as if they know for certain what lies in the future. In 1975 we didn't have general access to calculators nevermind computers, or the www. These changes couldn't be imagined in 1975.
What!! There were mistakes in that Ezekiel book that made the weekly book study a session in torture? That was heavy going and now they decide we should forget. Well, I did anyway but that's not the point.
Rutherford made up the great crowd being on earth just made it up probably in a drunken stupor when he also got rid of Holy Spirt and claimed to be communicating w angels…..hmmm “ angel of light”??????????😮

Those old books, including "Aid to Bible Understanding", contained "the Truth". Look up "Jehovah" in that book and find out where that name came from. Watchtower was so much more fun back in the 70s and 80s. It started to go downhill with their new Bible encyclopedia travesty, that horrid Insight book. The Aid book was awesome. Today they're all about feelings, hardly any Bible study, not even much seriousness. The GB seem like they're trying to do comedy routines. Granted Freddie could be funny but at least the guy was actually writing the books. Going for the Mormon model i think.
